I was just given a 2014 V Star 250 (technically I paid $10 for it). It's in pretty rough shape but it runs well. I don't even know where the sight glass is. It came with a tool kit so I should be fine there. Thanks for the video.

Amazing how people will screw up a simple oil change. The allen key holes stripped, the o-ring pinched, too much oil! I just changed my oil on my 2013 Yamaha Super Tenere. Had the dealer do all full services B4. I just changed oil&filter at 20k miles. Looking at buying a V-star 250 for around town. Seems like a cool bike. I'd buy a few of the o-rings from the start, and replace one each time. Can't be very expensive. My dealer wanted $13 for a spec crush washer!! I showed the parts department the flat aluminum washer that their mechanics had used B4. It was $2 with tax...👍😺

Great machine for running around town on. And always service a new to you purchase, no telling what could be wrong. My atv had 2 extra quarts of engine oil and the rear diff oil was filled full when only .3 quarts was needed, was blowing oil past the seal all over the wheels lol

Hey, i have a 2008 V Star 250 and in the manual it says to use Yamalube 4 10W30 OR Yamalube 4 20W40, SAE 10W30 or SAE 20W40. Is there a difference in those to the one you are using? Thank you.
@DirtRider22a
2 жыл бұрын
The weight is the only difference. I used mobil1 4T which is there motorcycle specific oil and it is sold in 10-40 only. The most important thing is you use a motorcycle specific oil and not car oil. Car oil isn’t designed for use in things that have a wet clutch which these motorcycles have.

Why would you not got buy new bolts and O ring?
@DirtRider22a
Жыл бұрын
Well the o-ring sealed so good for atleast one more use. As far as bolts, if they had been rounded off in a way where it was difficult to get a tool to grab them then I probably would have, but since I was able to tap another size in and it fit tight with no chance of slipping then might as well reuse them. I sold the bike to a girl locally and she’s put a few thousand trouble free miles on it since then.

I would have to re watch the video to refresh my memory but I believe the reason I had to tap the Allen key in was because they were already damaged from a PO not because I didn’t have the right size (as a machinist I have a plethora of tools and plenty of metric and SAE Allen keys, even JIS bits). But that’s pretty common on used bikes and atv’s unfortunately.

Allen bolts are a million times better than the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screws that they use on most Japanese bikes, which everybody mistake for Phillips screws. Allen and Torx screws are by far the best way to go. Use the right wrench, and they don't strip out like JIS/Phillips screws do. Harley uses only Allen and Torx screws, and I have NEVER stripped one.
