Tenere for the win. IMO. Couldn't hurt having Pol Tarres riding it.

The KTM weighs pretty much the same as the Tenere but has another 1.5" of suspension travel, 30% more HP (at a lower RPM to boot), 30% more torque, significantly larger and more powerful brakes front and rear, an inch more ground clearance and the same seat height. Pol Tarres isn't riding a stock Tenere, and without a doubt he'd be better/faster on an equally modified KTM 890 R. If this "big bike" category becomes something, expect him to switch to KTM or become irrelevant *in the racing world*, and fast.

That ducati looks and sounds the part, and looks like it handles very well, looks the most like a big dirt bike, but reliability and cost of ownership is a major concern. The ktm does not sound or look good, I know that is subjective perhaps, but it is what it is. The t7 is just the business, the complete package. I am kind of biased, though... Where is aprilia? I've been driving for almost 35 years but I don't trust myself. I would be interested to know how the bikes have been modified. It would be even more interesting with standard motorcycles, i.e. also with the original chassis parts.

It's an easier transition than you think. The thing that makes a dirtbike so excellent offroad is the tires and suspension, so if you have an ADV bike that has dirtbike tires and suspension, it's actually pretty dang good in the more open stuff. These bikes really begin to show their limitations in the tighter stuff though, especially when they get hung up on something slippery like a wet rock or tree-root.
