Get Yamaha Reface CP here: bit.ly/46WfJGW (affiliate)
Reface CP is a recreation of the 70s classic stage keyboards with vintage effects and 128 voice polyphony. It contains those classic CP stage piano, Rhodes piano, wurlitzer and clavinet sounds. In this video we unbox the Yamaha Reface CP, load it with 6xAA batteries for some sweet sound demos. Furthermore we listen to what the onboard speaker sounds like.

Dude, i am amaze with this vídeo, i am very interested in one... The Rhodes, Wurlit and CP sounds are really cool... Do you think that it will work as a module with a 5 Octave MIDI keyboard? What about play on stage with it? Not bad for small Speakers, perfect for practice i think ❤

Hi Samuel, I think it works great as a module. In fact that’s how I also use it when recording more elaborate keyboard parts. And i feel the included ”small” keybed + speaker is just extra. And is a reason why people / media considered the Reface as toys when they were released. I think its super powerful synths! 👍👌💎🥁

Are batteries required to operate this keyboard, or can you power it exclusively with the AC adapter? Also, how good does the Fender Rhodes voice sound in the lowest octave range? As a bass player, I'm mostly attracted to the classic sound of the Fender Rhodes Bass Piano. I'm wondering how well this keyboard can reproduce that classic sound that I've heard in songs by artists like: The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Ray Charles, and Herbie Hancock. In most of the demos I've seen, they never pull the octave lever all the way down in the Fender Rhodes mode. I get it. The higher register on the Fender are utterly gorgeous, and the lower register of the Fender Rhodes is swampy, dirty, and muddy. But we bassists are a weird bunch. We like it like that. 😂

@@aifuturemix It's cool because of the decent sounds and onboard speakers option and interface, but it doesn't retrigger fast so forget fast trills, has an unnerving soft power switch, and can't save transpose settings or default instrument on power up (unless you can do that in the software which I haven't been bothered to fire up yet). Pretty much grumpy old man's gripes, I realize (except for the slow retriggering, for which there's no excuse). I really just need the sounds on the Reface CP plus a couple of organs really.
I've had this for years and sounds amazing, have it hooked up to a full size Yamaha piano with MIDI. I wish the Toy piano could be swapped with the secret patch for the acoustic piano which you can load like this 1) switch CP off 2) put the voice selector between any two settings 3) power up 4) enjoy a nice sounding acoustic piano Cheers, Ola
@aifuturemix
Жыл бұрын
Hi Ola, Yeah that "hidden" acoustic piano is lovely. It would indeed have been better to just include it in the patch selector. Or swap the Toy shize piano which just sounds harsh no matter what you do with the settings. ;)

@@mr_bassman6685 yes it requires some soldering and disconnecting some of the pins on the selector to a switch you can use to trigger this. Still require power off/on to activate it.

I wish Yamaha will have a follow up for this Reface CP that can be USB powered so that I don't have to carry an additional power adapter. And don't hide the acoustic piano sound.
@aifuturemix
Жыл бұрын
Yeah but the battery last quite long. Indeed USB power would be very welcome. Why they ”hid” the acoustic piano is beyond me 😂
I'd be willing to pay substantial amount for a stage size size equivalent provided it looks like an instrument (no more square black plastic case like in the 80's, Donner has done an amazing work lately with their cheap pianos, I don't understand why it could not be easy for Yamaha) and provided they keep at all cost this SIMPLE interface with big and obvious knobs controls. I think keyboard companies under estimate the amount of keyboard players that are not interrested at all in programming anything.
@aifuturemix
7 ай бұрын
Hey Lous, Totally agree, did you see the video where someone built a real custom Rhodes case for the Reface CP? It's such a wonderful sound in this keyboard that it deserves a pro build. But I do understand Yamaha from a price point. The Reface CP is very portable and battery powered though. A big keybed would make it heavy and less compact / portable. So a different client base I guess.

@@aifuturemix thanks for the tip, I'll check this out. I do understand that commercially, when things get bigger, it doesn't cost them much more to increase the capabilities. However, I really think there is a market for keyboard players that are not into programming and tweaking. I really think there is a market for amazing basic sounds, packaged in an instrument like product that you could hook-up to external pedal board just like with guitarists that spend more time buying pedals than playing guitars 🙂... (I would probably be this guy...)
