    why oh why did they think toy piano would bolster the sales of this beauty more than that amazingly natural piano is beyond me.

    I think it's not about bolstering the sales. I bet they think if this thing has great Rhodes, Clavi, Wurly ánd good Piano sounds people might not buy their digital piano's.

    I would have "hid" the toy piano and kept the acoustic in the easily accessible line up. But for the time being, this mod is pretty cool.

    because then they wouldn't be able to sell you a separate "acoustic" sounding piano.. but now that the cat is out of the bag and everyone is using the acoustic sound anyway.. **ATTENTION YAMAHA**.. I would pay extra for a "Deluxe" version of the CP that (is EXACTLY the same, but) does not have the acoustic piano hidden. Just tweak the knob (+give it a designated acoustic slot) +we will pay EXTRA for it. Come on Yamaha, U could sell a bunch more of these really quick with this idea..

    Hello Helfried, thanks for the sharing (I do not own any CP reface). If we consider DD[0]..DD[5] as binary, if you put simultaneously one or more DD[.] together, is there other hidden sounds ?

  • @ezion67
    @ezion672 жыл бұрын

    So the piano gets selected if powered on while none of the lines DD[0...5] are connected to S[0]. In other words, when all data lines are low. Did you test what happens if all lines DD[0...5] get disconnected from s[0] while the Reface is already on? Also what happens if more than one of the DD[0...5] lines get connected to S[0] at the same time? I mean while the unit is already on, no power cycling. And yes that's almost 60 new combinations to test. I don't have a CP so can't try this myself, but this should be relatively save to try. S[0] is a strobe line that pulls the connected data line high when the position of the rotary switch is read. Worst case, a unexpected binary value on the data lines DD[0...6] might make the CP go gaga, but permanent damage is unlikely. Best case, access to 1 or more hidden sounds.

    I noticed that, at the bottom of the octave shift slider, your piano says "GRND", whereas all the other's that I've seen just have dashes. It seems that with your keyboard, you turn the instrument selector to RD1 and have the octave slider all the way down - and then power it on to get the Grand Piano sound. Other KZread vids say to put the instrument selector control between RD1 and RD2, then power up the keyboard. Why is yours different? Just curious.

    the best will be if you read through the detailed documentation - see the links above in the instructions - incl. a *.pdf of the circuit diagram. And ignore that I once switched the octave switch to the lowest position in the video ... that was nonsense at that point :-) My modification simply causes the acoustic piano to sound when the CP is switched on in position RD1. This replaces the previous procedure with the unstable intermediate position of the switch.

    Just Ive seen in some sample demo they put the knob settings in between then they turn it on to produce piano sound, so if the knob is in between so no connection at all in the circuit board..what if you cut the connection of the toy piano .. so once its switch there no connection. so turn it on.. may be will work .. I havent tried it yet because I dont have CP yet.. this is only my opinion theoretically.

  • @helfriedwildenhain1709

    Sure - that would work of course, but then you have a dead spot in the switch that can only be used to switch on if you want the acoustic piano sound. And you lose the sensational, unique toy piano .. ;-)

    Another idea is if only someone could create (or find) a MIDI phone-"app" that would STORE the secret piano sound on an attached phone.. (so that u don't have to monkey around with balancing the knob in that precarious position +turning the keyboard on+off in the middle of a set when it's hooked up to a P.A.) Unfortunately the Yamaha "Soundmondo" app doesn't work for this... it saves the other sounds on an attached phone, but doesn't save the hidden acoustic.

    unfortunately this isn't possible in an elegant, switchable way either - but of course you can just cut the connection of the switch at the Toy Piano position. But even then, the switch must be in this position when you turn on the keyboard if you want the Grand - and when you change the sound, the Grand Piano disappears again until the next restart. Of course, this solution is easier to implement than my project. But you lose one available sound - even if it's just the toy piano ;-) I just wanted to keep all the functionality and still have easy access to the grand piano - that's why I chose this complex method.
