Yamaha RD 350 LC Crankshaft Part 2

Part 2 shows the inspection of the centre section to evaluate the condition of the inner main bearings and labyrinth seal area, in this case both middle shaft and seal are damaged and need replacing, as do the big end pins which means a complete centre section is reuired, the two outer webs are fine to be used again their threaded ends usable.
In part 3 we will concentrate on rebuilding and truing the parts using industry standard tools and gauges and a bit of persuasion.
Thanks for looking.

Hi, the press is a decent quality20 Ton unit with a set of dedicated pin set and ram socket and can go a little more at a push, most cranks use about half of the range, the secret is to use tooling that stops any flexing, a firmer support helps to get the pins out easier without any sudden jumping. One often finds that some of the smaller cranks are harder to remove their pins, if you get flexing it can damage things which will show in the balancing up later.
