You're right, Yamaha is all about music and quality reproduction of music. The truth is speaker technology hasn't changed much in 50 years, but new manufacturers have to differentiate themselves by touting nuances and more expensive materials. Unless you do a double blinded test with at least 20 people, and the speakers set up identically, you can't say the conclusion was significant. It's like blind tasting wine. Snobs can tell you the difference between a $70 bottle and a $15 bottle until they aren't previously familiar with the wines.

Not a fair comparison. The Yamahas are out in the open where the sound can open up more. The MA 500 are stuck in a corner.

speaker placement has to be the same, can't be sure when monitor audio is pressed all the way back to the wall plus the sidewalls man....

I am new to the Home theater world, I just got rid of my Soundbar and going into a traditional Home Theater system, I Am purchasing the Home theater mostly for Movies and occasionally Music, I am torn between the Monitor audio Silver 500 towers, With the C350 Center Speaker, And the Monitor Audio Silver 100 bookshelve speakers, Or The Definitely Technology BP9060 tower speakers with the Definitely Technology Cs9080 Center Speaker, The Definitely Technology A90 Dolby Atmos height speakers, And the Definitely Technology D11 bookshelve speakers, Cost is pretty much the same any recommendations?

I have those yamaha speakers too they Rock.

@lamecasuelas2 absolutely... these speakers are incredible. The highs and lows are amazing, and you don't need a subwoofer with them if you don't want to buy one. The price on them is very good. I'd just buy new if you can afford to and break them in. I don't trust used speakers unless I know who I'm getting them from. I have some Macintosh speakers, and these Yamaha speakers are close, believe it or not.

Yamaha NS - 777. I have no doubts.

The best sound in this sample is that reproduced by the Yamaha. I don't think that moving the MA to the same place as the Yamaha ones makes much difference, in this case in the bass, but the mids and highs in the Yamaha are much more balanced and clear. The Monitor Audio at the beginning of Michael Bublé's song sounds almost distorted and muddled. Some time ago I had a Monitor Audio Gold GX300 speakers and they sounded horrible although I think the Silver 500 would sound a little better. The GX300's ribbon tweeter sounded very, very bad, unlike what sound experts would believe.

Yamaha only !

I found the Yamaha on this video to give out better mid range. Monitor is too much treble for my taste. Maybe you could adjust it with an eq, but I definitely like Yamaha better in this video.

Agree with that. My Klipsch setup is more poor in sound vs my Yamaha setup. I regret Klipsch aquisition because i don t know before. Millions of reviews drove me into 4000 euro mistake.

MA sounds quite a bit better to me, more well rounded and less in your face.

MA for voices, Yamaha for instruments. But!!! is there no bass in these speakers or is it bad recording?

A lot of talk about placement, but a lot less talk about initial cost. Those Monitor Audio's are like $1400 each. The Yamaha's are like, maybe $399 a piece new; I just picked up a set for $300 that have never had a signal run through them. They are absolutely comparable in sound which is astounding considering that you could buy 5 of the Yamaha's for the price of one Monitor Audio. Hell, I would compare the Yamaha's to RF7 II's. It would be a pale comparison but the fact is that you are getting sound in the same ballpark (minus the forwardness of the horns) for a fraction of the cost. And they're also the cheapest piano black floor standers you are going to get.

Honestly, I don’t know what I was talking about up there. The 777’s are boomy with no mids and bad highs. Legitimately, having now heard the monitor audios several times, I was wrong and stupid for my initial comment.

Why are you playing rubbish Spotify compressed computer audio through proper HiFi ? You need to be testing with Hi Resolution streaming services. Qobuz is the best. It starts at CD Quality uncompresed formats and goes all the way up to 192KHz 24 Bit. Qobuz has way more high resolution music than Tidal. Qobuz is the go to for Audiophiles.
