I think the video is ok you did a pretty good job on your views, but I want to tell your viewers that I’ve own my 660 grizzly for 15 years with the stock skid plates and been through the worst terrain you could think of up in New England and north country and never have had one issue with the stock skid plate’s , save your money, I just purchased a 2023 grizzly 700 se and I know the stock skid plates will never let me down. Just thought I throw it out there, thanks again for the video.

I think it all depends on how hard you ride and on what terrain you ride. I've slashed through the stock plastic skid plates while riding on rocks (on my 2020 Yamaha that I had). That said, I tend to abuse these things pretty good and like to bash through rough terrain, so I should have seen it coming and I knew the risk. I've also already bent one of the aluminum A-arm skid plates on this Grizzly. Had to replace the a-arm too. There would have been more damage (possibly to the a-arm mounts?) with the plastic guards on. Now, if I rode a little softer, didn't go off-trail as much, nor rode rocks, then I would absolutely keep the stock plastic skids - they are pretty great for brush and stuff. I also bought these when I bought the machine new, so I should get many years of protection out of them over the life of the quad, which makes that investment a little easier to justify. I just like the peace of mind these plates give me when out on the trail. They are quite expensive, so each will just have to make their own decision at the end of the day. Again, if didn't ride certain trails, I'd keep the plastic skids all day long (lighter, cheaper, easier, etc). Totally respect your opinion, but in mine, they're worth getting if you plan to have the quad for a long time.

A 1000 Polaris or Canam is fine but I'd rather have the reliability of Yamaha if your deep in the woods. Japan makes the most reliable atvs, tractors, and cars as they ensure reliability in everything they build. I'll take Grizzly everyday anyday.!

Great job on the video. I have a 09 700 Grizzly with the identical addons except for the hand guards but mine does have a large aftermarket front bumper that really protects the whole frontend without restricting air to the radiator. Mine has upgraded Rino axle shafts also. It's a Great machine and I'm the second owner, so welcome to the Grizz family and enjoy it.

Just picked up my new Grizzly and love it! I had researched a long time between the kodiak 450, 700, and grizzly and your excellent reviews of the kodiak and grizzly helped me to pull the trigger on the grizzly! Best reviews of these machines on KZread. Have no regrets. Look forward to more of your grizzly content!

Great review. I just watched it, already knowing what you were probably going to say. I own a green 2020 Grizzly 700, and previously had a 660 Grizzly. Awesome machines, and hands down an all round contender for best overall ATV in my opinion. I've ridden many others, and always come back to the Grizz. Reliable as heck, a lot of fun to ride, and just does things well. Mine has a few extras, as well. ITP Mud Lites in 26x9x12", and 26x12x12", HMF tuner, and full exhaust (quiet series), K&N filter with EHS airbox mod, Ricochet Skids, Warn 3000 lb winch, factory Yamaha metal front bumper, Power Madd hand guards, Heat Demon grips and thumb warmer, a LED rear back up light, and a front LED light bar that fits just under the front rack. Probably my favorite is the small Baja Designs S2 Pro LED with a spot, and flood beam that I installed inside the actual housing for the original halogen center light. A fairly easy project, with awesome results. It measures 3"x2" and puts out 2450 lumens. The light is high quality, and extremely bright and really makes the machine pop, especially after using oven cleaner to remove the chrome reflective material on the back of the original housing to reveal black.

Excellent review. I'm a big Yamaha ATV fan as well. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences with your mods. Very helpful.

Great review. Owning both Polaris then can am, the Grizzly offers greater performance due to its lighter weight and nimbleness and also more reliable, imo. Also, you don’t need multiple eps settings when Yamaha got it right the first time around lol.

I have a 17 Kodiak 700. Yesterday I just put 500 down on a grizzly 700 xtr. Hopefully I'll get it this year lol. Awesome video.

I have a 2012 grizzly 700 SE. I added 7” wide ITP hurricane wheels, 25x10-12 Deestone swamp witch radial tires front and rear, Flexx handlebar, Flexx anti vibe cores, Flexx hand guards, a mount on the handlebars for my phone with a charging cable to the 12v outlet, I run Polaris ride command app on that while trail riding on public ground. I also have a mirror on the front rack though I would prefer the mirrors in the hand guards. My quad is a hair over 48” wide outside tire to outside tire now. I’m VERY happy with that set up trail riding. I have yet to buy a skid plate, I’m in Ohio, I do hop logs but there isn’t much rocks here, I have never had a quad with aluminum skid plates but I have considered buying them. The 19+ grizzly is a better platform but all the 686 machines are great.

Really leaning towards one of these. 65 years young and previously owning 3 polaris these are looking very intriguing.

Great review! I've contemplated going with the Polaris and or the Can-Am but there are just too many issues that I don't want to deal with. I've owned several Yamaha bikes and I believe it's the best option out there for low maintenance and longevity.

Polaris and Can Am are fancy ATVs, but Grizzly is pure hardcore boy!!

Thorough and well produced review! I wasn't sure I'd watch the whole thing but you did a good job to make the review captivating. Good ideas with the soft shackle on the hitch and the aluminum eye on the winch rope. The only item I can't agree with you on is those ITP Terracross tires. I had them on my 14 Grizzly 700 and absolutely hated them for trail riding in the CO mountains. I had to deflate the tires down to about 3 psi before I got any decent traction out of them and then all of the rim hits started happening. I do ride very aggressive, just couldn't stand those tires for loose over hard pack along with snow mixed in. Tried using them for about 300 miles and then went back to BigHorns and was a noticeable improvement. I can't understand why people like those tires, but everyone has their preferences. :)

Thanks for the comment! I have heard great things about the bighorns and I know they're super popular tire for good reason. I suppose time will tell with these itps after I put them through a lot more abuse. So far so good but I haven't done anything really extreme yet.

Both are great machines and will almost certainly be very reliable, but the grizzly is probably more fun on the trails!

One bit of feedback, the override provided from Yamaha is not for reverse, but rather for diff-lock. Great video, thanks for sharing

Thanks for the great review. I owned a base model kodiak 700 2016 with no diff lock. Was a great machine. Buying a new one next spring I’m still on the fence with the Kodiak EPS with diff lock or this beauty. Mostly hunting snd light rec riding and exploring. I have some of these color schemes they make each year for grizzly. Wish I could just get a dark green , or grey all over like yours Thank you

I just sold my 2019 Grizzly SE, Grizzly is a great bike. My bike was loaded with everything you have on your Grizzly. I really liked the Zilla's that came with the bike. I am out here and Texas and mudding is kind of a normal situation out here. I never ever was stuck, surprisingly the Zilla's also rode smooth on hard packed surfaces. I had the Ricochette skid plates. thos foot well skids saved my feet many times...LOL. I did add additional lighting for night rides. Great bike, I do miss it but I am enjoying my new RMAX4 1000 LE very much. Enjoy that bad boy, I really like that green/grey color combo.

@@ThomperBeThompin The RMAX is a beast. I have had mine about 6 months now. Rock, mud, trail riding the RMAX just keeps asking for more. Honestly the RMAX takes the challenge of off roading and makes it almost to easy...LOL Plus the RMAX runs with the Canned-Hams X3's and so on. The great thing about the RMAX 4 seater is that it is only 9 inches longer than the 2 seat version, so it's handling characteristics are super responsive. If you get a chance go test drive one at your local Yamaha dealer. Enjoy that bad azz Grizzly & ride safe.

Excellent video. You do a great job of explaining the pros and cons and your reasoning behind your decisions. I just got a 2022 XT-R and couldn't be happier. Just passed the 15 hour break-in purgatory period so the fun is about to increase big time. The accessory for your receiver from Rugged Ridge; is it the Rope Shackle and Grab Handle? Brought home a 22 Kodiak 700 SE about a month ago. Going to switch out the stock clutch weights for the Grizzly weights. I wonder if you had a 700 Kodiak instead of the 450 the upgrade wouldn't have been necessary as they are so similar. Also looking at the Kenda Bear Claws as the stock 4 ply tires already have a plug. Good job on this video .

Yeah I wonder the same thing. Does kodiak 700s are great, but man do I love the grizzly. Ultimately I prefer it over the others but I'd honestly take any one of the three!

The 4 wheel drive (dif lock) sure works better than 3 wheel drive (limited slip)!

i have a 2016 and me too i ride lots standing! debating to get a 2022 if i can find one.

If I got that right, Yamaha went for the 2024 model for 27" tires .. wonder how this could change the handling for fast trail driving 🤔

I would make a few suggestions to your quad based on seeing your video. 1. Try to adjust your handlebars farther forward so you are leaning forward on the machine, might help with the feeling you want more length to the foot pegs. 2. Air down the tires. I would guess you are running too high PSI based off how fast they dug down on that small hill and how it looks like you are driving on Ice when you get on it. I can smath my throttle on my 2012 grizzly (686) and the rear end is planted and not squirrelly. I’m also running ITP hurricane wheels with Deestone swamp witch radials 25x10-12 all around at 5psi. I’d go down to 4psi if it gives you better grip. 3. Increase your rear shock preset 1-2 clicks, maybe soften your front one click. That will help, on a hill your rear won’t squat. I’m running the 2nd to stiffest on the rear and stock on the front. I’m a heavier guy then you are but having a stiffer rear end makes hills not feel as steep and it’s easier to climb. Plus on a hard acceleration the rear end won’t squat down as much. Less body roll with stiffer shocks on side hill also. A really comfortable way to climb is to put one foot up on the rear rack and knee on the seat, gives a really nice planted feel, keeps yourself from pulling up on the handlebars also if that’s your only grab point climbing. I really only do that on really steep hills. I came really close to getting the ITP terracross tires, I recognized them right away. But just seemed like your quad was all over the place like they aren’t gripping, looks like you are running on ice or really fine sand. Just a note, more weight down low is a good thing, heavier wheels and tires, adding your skid plates, the winch etc. makes your center of gravity lower. I noticed a big change when I changed my stock 2ply tires mounted on the stock aluminum wheels to the ITP aluminum wheels and swamp witch tires, they seemed to weigh double but it’s SOOO much more stable climbing hills now. I also have a trail box on the front rack for trail riding, prob 40lbs of gear up there, also helps climbing. Proper ballasted quad will be way more stable.

@@ThomperBeThompin I have seen people run 2-3psi. I usually go low enough that the tire starts to sag a bit, gives more ground contact, just depends on how stiff your sidewalls are. I’d only recommend 2-3psi if a person is running bead locks, 4psi was great for me until I popped a bead, it’s a tire mount issue, not too low of a PSI issue. When I get that tire fixed I’ll likely go back to 4psi. The ride and grip was better.

Great review. I have the sunfA033 (bighorn clones) tires and really like them (in stock size/width). They are great for trails but in the sand I do think they need the center steering ridge you mentioned. They have done very well on similar trails as well as in the sand dunes. One mod I think you (everyone) needs is the yamaha foot pegs. I went with them over the rox because I like the rocking action of the factory pegs. I have found that I mostly use the rear footbrake on trails. Doublecheck these swap into your 2022. Mine is a 2014. foot pegs 3B4-F74M0-T0-00. We ride pretty agressively in the trails and I have installed the high lifter springs for less body roll, more predictive handling, etc. Would like to upgrade to elka stage 3/4 as budget allows.

@@ThomperBeThompin Hey, any reason you went with the kolpin handguards instead of the powermadd with flip out mirrors? And do the handguards allow you to ride in, say 30 degree weather with just riding gloves on? I had bought some snowmobile gloves but they lack the dexterity I need. In texas so it doesn't usually get too cold, but have had to cancel a couple of trips because it got into the 30's-40's and we just don't have the gear for riding in that weather.

@@factionfx basically they are cheap and do the job well enough. These are only $50 total which is great, but I really like how they have a lot of surface area and block a lot of wind. I can ride down to single digits with my snowboarding gloves all day with these. I could easily see a day riding in the thirties of forties with some standard riding gloves, especially if you're moving around a lot. This is my third set and they have held up decently, but I do have to crank pretty hard on the hardware to keep them from moving around. Once that's done they stay in place and I haven't had to touch them for several years.

Is there a fuel cut off switch on these machines? My experience with older Yamaha's is that if you don't siphon or cut off fuel and run it down, then the carbs get junked up and eventually impacts greater system. Any tips or feedback on that aspect of the machine (maintenance)? Great review though overall!!! I'm seriously considering buying one right now. I'm thinking through maintenance right now though before taking the plunge. So skid plates are nice.................... where did you find the highlighter yellow ones? Again, great review! Thank so much.

It's fuel injected, so no traditional fuel cut-off that I'm aware of. However, you have to be able to cut off the gas somehow if you need to pull the tank for any serious maintenance, so I'd imagine there's a connector that, when disconnected, acts as a fuel cutoff (I am super strict about only using non-ethanol gas, so no worries there). Maintenance is insanely simple on these Yamaha utility machines which is one of the primary reasons I chose Yamaha. They are very reliable and easy/cheap to maintain. It's all simple stuff: Engine oil / filter, engine air filter, diff fluid, coolant... etc. The skid plates are by "Ricochet Off Road" and I just found some spray paint that was as close to the ATV color as I could find (went to an arts and crafts store). A couple companies make paint that is pretty close. Thanks for watching! Let me know if you buy one!

The Grizzly is a mighty beast! I keep my tow ropes in the compartment under the seat, phone in dry storage and gloves, pistol in center storage. I have no bog from a dead stop. If I punch it the front end comes straight up if traction. I put a whiskeybent exhaust 1.5 45 degree tip on and it really woke it up in the lower ram range. I put on a EHS tuner but it didn't do anything but make it run rich. I live at about 780 ft elevation and my 2019 kodiak 700 EPS and my 2021 Grizzly have both run perfect. Enjoy your Grizzly!

@@ThomperBeThompin no tuning, my grizzly and the wives kodiak 700 both run great, you can really feel the difference and now they sound like a YZF 450. Really throaty. But pretty quiet just cruising but give it gas and nice bark. I like the 1.5" 45. I have plenty of clearance and deep sound. Both ours have AIS delete, and both run cooler with delete and tip. No popping or backfire, run really strong and I've rode bikes and atv my whole life and you can feel the difference without spending $500 on a slip on or tune. My wife said wow after she put hers on..

@@ThomperBeThompin the tip is only about 3/4" bigger, it just does away with that big baffle in there that really restricts airflow. In one of EHS videos with a white 2019 grizzly he took out the baffle and said it was worth 2 hp. I see no reason to worry about back pressure because it's not letting out near as much exhaust as a slip on. I have no symptoms of being to lean. And I posted it on grizzly central and 5 or 6 other people ordered it and really like it. The 2R tip is really loud this isn't. A couple ordered the 2" and like it but I didn't want to much so I just ordered the 1.5 ". I'm very pleased with it and if it did nothing I'd be the first to say it's junk. I ordered 2 EHS tuner for my grizzly and wives kodiak. They made them both run like instant turds !! Lost all bottom end and throttle response. I emailed Eric and he was no help so after messing with them for 2 weeks I took them off but left the AIS delete. That by itself made a noticeable difference. I posted on grizzly central others said for their 2019 up it did nothing! One even said Eric told him on a stock quad won't do anything. I found a few other posts where guys used HMF tuner settings which are way lower than EHS settings so I might try it this summer. But you'll love the tip.

Great vid, you should make a short with your clip comparing 2wd, 4wd, and diff lock, good stuff. We just bought a 2020 Kodiak SE 700 for my wife, I drive a 21 outlander 650. I love the power steering of the Kodiak at low speeds but I wish it would stiffen up at high speeds like the Can-am. The Can-am feels much more secure at higher speeds with the dynamics power steering. Even the 650 will leave that 700 in the dust but there is something about that 700 engine that just feels... spirited I guess. I commend you for embracing the color...😅 Take a sub!

Hi Thomper, Now that you’ve had some time on the Grizz with the ITP’s, how would you say they compare with the HTR’s on your Kodiak. I got my 2022 Kodiak 700 SE ( largely due to your videos) and I am going between those 2 tire sleections (again, due to your reviews). I live in Central Oregon with mostly desert style conditions (rock, loose terrain) Thanks!

I just went ripping on the griz yesterday! Honestly in my opinion these tires both perform really well on the types of terrain I ride in. I honestly would buy either set again. That said, if you made me pick I would choose the Kenda's because they have a directional tread pattern and they are eight ply rated instead of six ply.

Great review! I'm on the fence between another Kingquad or Grizzly to replace my 2016 Kingquad. One complaint with the king is the brakes. It doesn't have good braking power. Pretty sure I'll be going with the Grizzly. I love the fact it has 4 wheel disk brakes and some extra storage to boot.

Thinking of ordering next years model as soon as it comes available. Great video and seems like an awesome machine. I did notice there was clunking or ratcheting on a couple of the descents, is that normal/common? Is it something to do with the engine braking? Thanks for the info, subbed.

Ahh yes, that sound. That's just the rear tires sort of "locking up" and sliding on the really loose dirt due to engine braking from the Ultramatic CVT. This is because it was in 2WD. If 4WD is engaged, then engine braking would be applied to all drive wheels, including the fronts. If I were on pavement and doing a steep decent in 2WD, then the rear wheels would not "clunk or ratchet" because they would have too much traction - they would simply apply the engine braking to the ground. All to say, it's normal and does not hurt the machine at all. Another way around this is to apply very light throttle going downhill - the engine braking will still slow you down, but it won't be as aggressive. This is also because of Yamaha's constant belt tension, so the machine never free spools like some other manufacturers' ATVs do. With those, you'd begin a steep decent and the ATV's transmission would take tension off the belt, mimicking being in neutral. You'd have to "blip" the throttle to re-engage the belt tension - kinda spooky if you're going down a steep hill with a trailer or a heavy load. All in all, I prefer Yamaha's famously stout engine braking from their Ultramatic CVT. Thanks for the comment and subscribing! I hope to get more Grizzly videos posted this year for sure.

Awesome video! My buddy and I were thinking about Kodiak 450 SEs, but we want to run Camso tracks in winter on Canadian mountain forestry roads in the west. We definitely need the 700 for that. The Kodiak 700 SE is what we're looking at, but the Grizzly would be nice. Not a huge fan of the yellow, but it doesn't seem as offensive when it's outside on trail. The colour was quite jarring when I first saw it on their web site. Why didn't you buy Grizzly 700 SE?

The SE package is an extra $1,000. All that really gets you is a warn winch, special paint, and maxus zilla's on 14-in rims. I think the zilla's are good tires but not what I'm looking for. Also, I prefer a 12-in rim to have more tire sidewall for better performance on rough terrain and for jumping. So in the end you're paying $1,000 for a winch in my opinion. Nothing against the SE package. Some people really like that color much more and if zilla's are what you looking for then it's a pretty good setup. I really like the Yamaha black painted aluminum alloy 12-in rims. They look good in my opinion.

How far can you go on a tank of gas? I want to try a quad. I’ve had dual sports and dirt bikes but I want something new. I’d be able to carry more stuff for camping. Grizzly seems like the Best Buy or maybe kingquad 750

I'm getting anywhere from about 80 to a little over a hundred miles per tank depending on how I ride it. If you can take it really easy on level ground you can probably get 25-30 mpg out of this 4.8 gallon tank. Again it matters so much on driving terrain, tire size and weight, and how much throttle you give it.

great review, Have you considered a raptor 700R as an option before to chose a grizzly 700. I'm looking to purchase one and i'm esitate betwen a raptor and grizzly

I absolutely LOVE the Raptor 700s and it would be my first choice for a sport quad since it is also very good at cruising trails (all that low-end torque). But, I can only justify owning one ATV at this time so I needed more of a "do-it-all" machine and the Grizzly fit the bill. It would be awesome to own both!

You must be tall because you make that machine look smaller than it is and I know they’re not small at all because I have a 2020 XTR. These are absolutely great machines. It’s actually probably more than I’ll ever need, but I’m not parting with it now. LOL. Have fun! 👍

I sold the 300 to get a dirt bike, but I loved that thing and it ran great the whole time I had it. I highly recommend especially since it's so affordable

Hi there, I love your videos. Great work on the reviews. I was just wondering what your take is on the fuel consumption between the 450 vs the 700 in real world riding. Is it a big difference? Also, does the extra power of the 700 make a big difference in real world riding compared to the 450. Is it usable power or are you just spinning the back tires more and fighting wheelies all the time?

Hey thanks man. If all you need is a work vehicle then the 450 is more than enough. It has all the power you need. It is also very fun on the trails but the 700 can do things that the 450 simply can't. The 700 allows for much more spirited driving especially if you're a bit aggressive like I tend to be. It allows you to break the tires loose more easily which can be a lot of fun but also has a lot more usable power for things like hill climbs. I'm very happy with my upgrade even though I think the 450 is still a great machine.

@@ThomperBeThompin I can understand the 700 being alittle funner with all that extra power. I do alot of trail riding but also cut wood sometimes and need to haul the trailer around. I'm sure I'd be happy with either machine. They both have there pros and cons. Do you notice a big difference in fuel consumption between the 450 and 700?

@@34deeps honestly it's hard to tell because they made the gas tank bigger for the 700. You probably get the same amount of miles out of each tank for each respective machine. Neither are extremely efficient though.

@@ThomperBeThompin OK cool. That's good to know. I figured the 700 might be alittle worse in the fuel consumption category because of the bigger engine and heavier weight. BUT you might have to work the kodiac 450 harder to achieve the same performance (some of the performance) as the grizzley 700 which would use more fuel. I'd love to buy a grizzley 700 but I think the kodiac 700 might be the sweet spot for me. I think its a good compromise between the kodiac 450 and the grizzley 700. What's your opinion on the kodiac 700?

@@34deeps I think the Kodiak 700 is a great option and you hit the nail on the head, it is a great middle ground between the two. You get the power of the 700 and the lower maintenance and smaller footprint of the 450. The only reason I got the grizzly 700 over the Kodiak 700 is for the more aggressive clutching and the longer suspension travel for more aggressive riding. I've never heard one person say they were unhappy with the Kodiak 700.

What made you decide to install a rear diff brace? Been on the fence about buying one for my 21 Grizzly 700 SE.

It does protect the top portion of the rear diff, but more so it has those wings on it to protect the inside boots for the axles..

These are so expensive. I might purchase one next summer, but first, a new vehicle is needed right now. This winter was stupid rough on both our vehicles and not just our buy many of our friends had problems. It was a very long hard winter and easily one of the worst in years. Edit: I would find a way to seal the rear compartment and maybe something to line the tank compartment to protect items from heat.

I grew up in an area where there was tons of snow and the roads were salted for many many months. Our vehicles never lasted very long due to the salt, so I totally know what you mean! As far as sealing the rear compartment, I've seen other people use thick dense foam and just glue it into place where the gap is. It probably helps a lot but will likely never be fully dust proof or waterproof. I'll probably do something like this myself as well. Cheers!

Heya so iv been comparing the kodiak and grizzly alot lately for finally getting my own quad as iv only ever had hand-me-down sport quads and iv been leaning towards the kodiak but somthing that was sort of worrying me is that with sport quads its no big deal if you flip em as long as the engine didnt fall on you and give you a burn but these utility ones are many times heavier, did you ever have times where you felt it was unsafe especially on inclines and such? One of the reasons i was thinking the kodiak was the seat is noticably more inclined making it easier to get off the bike in case of a emergency such as it about to flip but i also heard the grizzly was noticably more stable and unlikely to ever flip in the first place. What would you recommend or are they both really solidly planted? Just saw your other video talking about the diffrences between the two but didnt get a good estimate on that specific question ya know. Also a few other other factors lead to probably the grizzly as i plan to go over arid/rocky terrain over here in the west coast so that added ground clearence could be needed afterall but kodiak woulda been my first pick. Thanks in adance and sorry for the paragraph! =P

They are definetly heavier than sport quads, but they tend to be more stable on uneven terrain because of the IRS vs. the SRA that doesn't typically articulate well on sport quads. I would say to apply the same common sense tackling hilly/off camber terrain as you would on a sport quad. it all depends on how skilled and confident you are as a rider. When I'm on my dirtbike, I like to challenge myself and get into some sticky situations, but there are obstacles I look at and say "nope". The 4wd (especially with lockers) is pretty sure footed out there. You'd be surprised what many of these 4x4 utility machines can crawl through. I think you'd be equally happy with either the kodiak or grizzly for regular trail riding. As far as rocks, use quality tires and have some skid plates - good to go. (a front locker would help too if you're crawling over boulders).

Like ya kinda figured it would be heck of a lot more stable compared to my old ones and one of the things i was pretty pumped about actually was getting some irs suspension cuase ya on those old ones even after just like half a day of riding you can get pretty darn sore, didnt even think about how irs contribute to keeping it well planted too. Just ya i wasnt too too worried about flipping either of them but ya know again flipping a sports isnt as big a deal as these guys so glad to have some confirmation there. Still unsure which one exactly i should go with but eitherway im sure itle be awhile before i can find one actually available around here anyway so no biggy ill figure it out. And no boulders yet just typical rocky terrarin so mabye a little less than a foot tall at most which after looking at it some more im sure both could handle it on their own but still might be a good idea to look for some other tires eventually, any recommendation on a brand? Thanks again!

Yes! Even with a winch installed. At the end of the day I think it's a matter of taking the good with the bad. A much longer wheelbase would help with that but make it less nimble on the trails. I also really like being able to lift or float the front end over small ditches and stuff. So you've just got to take a little extra care on hill climbs.

Most.people keep their shock preload set to the same notch in front and back to keep the bike level, that's not the way the bikes are sold usually, for this reason. Keep the front a notch lower, that keep more weight forward on the front and prevents the light feeling when climbing somewhat.

Since you've had both the Kodiak 450 and the Grizzly 700 how different is the suspension? I have a 2005 Kodiak 450 which was the first year for Independent suspension. I don't find the ride that good. Even set as soft as it will go it's very stiff.

I find both suspensions very comfortable. The Grizzly has noticeably more travel though. I can bomb through rough terrain and jump it more aggressively without bottoming out. But again, I feel both are pretty plush and comfortable. Double check your tire's PSI - if too much, it'll add to the harshness. I run about 4-5 PSI front and rear.

Do you know by any chance if there is a upgrade/change with your 2022 model and the 2019 model. I think they r identical.

Pick up a set of Grizzly clutch weights also and you have a machine that performs the same as the Grizzly, but is about 80lbs lighter...way more fun. Only take 20-30 mins to change the weights. Engine and transmission wise anyway, that's the only difference in the two machines.

@@kevinpack1454 not at all, took me 20 mins and im no mechanic. Get your weights at Yamaha. Longest part is removing the side plastic and footwell. Lots of videos on KZread to show you step by step. All you need really is a Philips screwdriver, 10mm socket, 22mm deep socket, allan wrench (cant recall the size), ratchet and extension. Cordless or air impact driver is ideal to have also

Hi there, Could you give me an idea on how deap a water-crossing it can do without putting an extra nozle on it ? I supose any nozzle wouldn't do anyway, since the battery compartment is on the same level as the original air intake. Any sugestions on that ?

I'm actually not exactly sure what the water forwarding ability is. The air box is up underneath the seat so I would imagine the CVT vents near there as well, but I would have to ask yamaha

I'm 6'4" and I ended up switching to Rox Riser bars. About an inch higher which helps. Have you had any issues with "throttle thumb" from riding all day while standing?

Yeah I could imagine at 6'4" you might want a slightly taller bend bar or a riser. I haven't had any issues with throttle thumb. I've done a couple 8-hour days back-to-back at Hatfield McCoy and didn't have any issues there either. Maybe consider double checking the positioning of the throttle thumb on the handlebar to make sure it's in the correct spot for ergos.

@@kojack635 I'm honestly not sure but I really hope so. They have the engine already made and would just need to build a chassis around it. I wonder if they would be concerned about losing Grizzly sales though. It sounds like Kawasaki is teasing a release of a brand new or probably seriously updated ATV in the very near future. Possibly a redesign of their brute force? If that's the case hopefully Yamaha feels more pressure to release a V-Twin for the crowd who is after that kind of power. For the woods I ride a single thumper with low end torque is really all you need to have a blast out there. But I totally get the appeal of the high hp v-twins.

I've always owned Honda's but thinking about getting a Grizzly. Have you had any issues with the clutch belt?

No issues with the belt. In fact, Yamaha is famous for having the best cvts and they have a 10-year belt warranty. You can run these Yamahas in high gear over slow technical terrain that would normally burn up a belt in a different atv. The Yamaha has constant belt tension and uses a one-way sprag clutch to keep belt temperatures low and avoid excess wear. Yamaha's CVT is famously bulletproof.

I only did about 5-7 hrs. Maybe a bit premature, but no harm in changing a bit early.

How is that Grizz doin a couple years later?...I've always liked the look of those.I'm currently on a Suzuki but looking for a change.

I've never run a set of bighorns, but I only hear great things about them. That said, you'll save a ton of cash with these ITPs. Dave never put me in a situation where I was disappointed with them and so far they're running very smooth for an all-terrain tire. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. They are wearing well too

These are awesome quads, love the Grizzlys . But the one thing that bothers me is at 1308, that bog when stab the gas from a stand still.

Yes! I totally agree and it was very unexpected. I guess I had never done a "holeshot" from a stand still, always did it rolling onto the throttle. I have not touched anything in the drivetrain, including the AIS delete. Perhaps that, and a tuner, could eliminate that. Luckily, full throttle from a stand still is pretty rare for me.

@@ThomperBeThompin the first 15 hours and or 150 miles is the most important time for the engine, you will see a difference in performance after that time, they do wake up alot, i just got the 22 se and it feels a lil sluggish, my last grizzly was the same till i broke it in..best all around machine on the market.

46" wide will fit perfect in the back of a full size truck.

I bought a 2021 yamaha kodiak 450 in August 2020 for my daughter. We put about 35 miles on it then went on a 40 mile trail ride. It began to stahl about 15 miles through our ride. I had to tow my daughter back about 90 percent of the way back. The machine would just turn off and the fan was working dont think it was overheating with the radiator but it would take about 10 to 15 minutes for the machine to cool down then it would start back up. The machine would die on the trail then the Radiator fan would stay on. Dealer said that the fuel pump had a recall for the 2020 year model so we thought maybe i got the bad fuel pump from the 2020 because i had a newer year kodiak. That was not the issue. They ran the piss out of the machine and could not duplicate it to stahl on them. They did replace the spark plug but they said that was probobly not the issue. They still dont know the problem. I had high octane gas and it was new gas Elevation was 9500 feet and the machine is fuel injected. Dont know if anyone else has experienced this. If so please share thank you. My can ams I also have had issues and both bought new. Needed primary clutch on a 2019 outlander max 650 and a radiator fan at under break in period. 2020 outlander 450 secondary clutch bolt sheared off at around 75 miles. My 1998 Honda 450 foreman no issues. I would stick with Honda but they don't make a two up model. I know this is not related but just looking to see if you or whoever stumbles upon this thread has had any of issues with their kodiak 450 just dieing out on the trail even radiator fan activating but won't start till it cools down. Nice 700 great video. I thought it was a jet ski on land because of the colors. Cool little ATV. I wish Honda suzuki yamaha made a two up model.

I pick up my new 2022 Grizzly 700 tomorrow . I’ve had a lot of different machines since 2000. Excluding the under 500 ones , 3 Brutes , and a sportsman 1000. Yes the power is a whole lot of fun. But I’m getting older and just want to ride with less maintenance. The Grizz has just enough power to have some fun anyway . Ultramatic has always been the best CVT on the market hands down . Don’t think I need it to do 80mph like my 1000 anymore lol.

Any issues? I have the same one in the same color. It’s been bogging and almost backfiring. Less than 300 miles on it

No issues with mine. Mine might bog the ever so slightest bit on a full throttle take off just for a moment. Also, mine does the backfire thing as well but it helps when you roll off of the throttle instead of chopping the throttle. These issues are very well known and documented on the forums. Google "Grizzly 700 AIS delete". Yamaha had to come up with an exhaust system that would pass emissions and unfortunately it causes backfiring. Less than $5 fixes all that though.

​@@ThomperBeThompin I think the Grizzly is a more "rounded" product. Maybe even better in reliabilty. Performance of Kawasaki might be better BUT Question is how you use it. Grizzly is wider but softer and less Power. But with some Aftermarket parts that little weakness can be fixed. The biggest minus for Yamaha is the 1-Zylinder. However, it will last. How many miles did you do on your Machines already?

How do those hand gaurd mirrors work?

These are made by a company called Kolpin. I bought them on Amazon. They are not the best out there, but for the price they're pretty darn good and hold up well. They install red onto your handlebars with a clamp mount. Very simple

@@tbone198786 I got you! Lol. I would say there are better alternatives for the mirror. They kind of vibrate a little bit too much to really see clearly behind you. Oddly enough, Kolpin makes a different rack mounted mirror that actually worked really well for me.

I am personally a big fan, but I totally understand not liking this color. It's a love-it or hate-it color, no doubt. I will say that it looks better in other videos. The camera settings I had for this video make it look a bit dull and faded. Hopefully for 2023 they get some better color combos!

@@ThomperBeThompin Yeah, I"m sure it looks better in person because is does look dull and maybe a bit faded in the vid. Honda has a similar color they use now that I don't care for either. Its a bright green. Down here in cattle country we call it "shit fly green", lol. I've seen the color of your grizzly on a few of the wolverine sXs. Actually test drove one the exact same color as your Grizz. Despite the color, its a great machine. I have a 2019 Grizzly 700 Alpine white and Blue. Is sharp and looks great, but its a NIGHTMARE to keep clean. Anything and everything shows up on it. On darker colored rigs you don't really notice how dirty they are getting. White rigs show it immediately. Also, the white will stain very easy and then you have nasty brown and yellow smears and marks on your rig that won't come off. I've noticed the plastics that Honda uses are different than Yamaha and Polaris. They seem to be less flexible, less thick and become more brittle over time than the honda's do. With that being said, after driving our Grizzly and Polaris Sportsman 850 , there is NO WAY I'd ever want to drive my honda's on a trail ride ever again. They buck like mules! The other two are smooth as butter and comfortable.

Doesn’t sound very good but I’m sure it is reliable and decently quick.

they just want you to stop before you go into four-wheel-drive because it handles a little bit different Just covering their ass On safety just bought xtr for my grandkids One of the last 23s in town 9K plus tax couldn't pass that up selling points for me was Reliability of course Arched A arms Best looking wheels oem tires are best for where we ride The best clutch system It doesn't shut off in water Smooth ride gear selector was a little stubborn before I put some WD-40 silicone on it
