Yamaha CDC 697 CD player. I could not find an issue, other than the dim display. Just used up.

I had a local drop-off of a Yamaha CDC-697 CD player. Other than a dim Vacuum Fluorescent Display I could not find any issues. What would you do in a situation like this?

Display has lived its useful life. Longer it stays on brighter it will get to a certain point but display will still be dim, nice repair.
I have CDC-585 , it looks the same as yours, there is a Dimmer button on the Remote , it has 3 levels : low , medium and high. This may help you , there is NO dimmer button on the CD player .

The display dimmer button adjustment is on the remote control.

I have the same dim display problem on of one of my 2 CDC 585-s. One has a great and bright display the other one has a dim display. The dimmer on the universal Yamaha remote just dims it down further, ultimately to no display at all on the one with the dim display. Could this dim display be fixed without a major repair outlay?
where is it that you find service manuals or schematics even? do you have a certain source to get them??

My opinion is, the zener diode(s) in -28V circuit is bad. I find this problem in many Panasonic VCR (NV-FS ; NV-J etc.) after replacing zener diode the VFD brights up. (When I measure this diode, looks fine, but it was faulty). Maybe is the same issue in this CD player.

Hi, I will try that for sure but do you know where are those diodes exactly on the board ? I know what a diode looks like but I have a whole bunch of them .thank you so much.
