Yamaha BB Bass | Concept Music with Paul Pooley

We wanted to have a close look at Yamaha Basses, and who better to ask than long time customer and friend, Yamaha Artist Paul Pooley.
This is the chat that he and Tony had in Concept's "Bass Place", with lots of great tips for new or seasoned Bass Players.

So good to hear a proper musician talking about the music and the instrument. Too many frauds on KZread.

I wonder what gauge he uses for flatwounds? I was thinking about putting flats on my 734a bass.

    Hi Aaron. Paul uses the following gauge flat wounds: 45 G - 65 D - 80 A - 100 E

@@whats246 Thank you. I been looking for that sound for about 10 years. I know that his sound is mostly in his hands, but at least I know that I have an instrument that can produce that sound.

I forgot to ask whether he strings his flats through the body or on the top. The guitar tech will probably ask me which would I prefer. I’m not sure if that makes a difference in his sound. I’m sure it’s his hands that’s getting that tone, mostly.

It's not the bass, it's the chops
