If you don't need V8 or V12 for everyday driving. LexusLS500 will satisfy 99% of your daily driving. Powerful enough, quiet enough, agile enough, Luxury enough, reliability is top-notch. A perfect car to live with every day. I have owned one.

Prior, the V8 was the way to go. A V12, even more Silky smooth and thrustfull. sic. Lexus compensated by developing a more robust V-6 which generates more power than the prior V8. + performance augmentation through turbo charging. I suspect it reduced the weight of the engine thus the load on the front suspension which should provides better handling and fuel economy. The engine is not under full load utilizing the turbos continuously hence a smaller engine doesn’t have to work as hard all the time, ++ Environmental considerations + increased efficiency. ( gas’s guzzler tax) = Attitudinal shift.

@@MrMrremmington Also, the advantage of the turbo V6 engine is you don't need V8 for cruising. But you have plenty of power during the acceleration when needed. The turbo kicked in hard. MB with V12, it turned off 4 pistons during highway cruising.

The Lexus design inside AND outside looks better than ALL the competition, and the reliability is 10/10.

Lexus builds a pure luxury car. The Germans build hybrid luxury/sports cars, this is the disconnect. As far as the tech goes, Lexus’s tech is adequate and the focus is on serenity, craftsmanship, materials, and longevity. Step inside the new S-class and it’s like walking into a big box electronics store - its obnoxious. The current LS suffers from a non-V8 option in the power train and a terrible infotainment system. Resolve those issues, or at least the infotainment system, and these would sell. But Lexus, PLEASE do not stick screens everywhere, keep it simple and classy unlike the Germans.

What? There is nothing sports car like about a base 7-Series or S-Class. Are you kidding? Have you ever driven these cars? You don't seem to understand that this level that "adequate" is not enough, which is why it doesn't sell. You think a S-Class or A8 doesn't provide "serenity", when both have been designed for it? The infotainment is only one of the LS' problems, no V8 as you say is one also, but the biggest problem is that the overall package is not compelling in any way anymore. It doesn't ride like the old LS models, it's cramped for it's size, and the design doesn't look the part unless you get a F Sport model. It's also overpriced and the tech is outdated by about 5 years at least. Lexus doesn't build a pure luxury car with the LS anymore, they tried to go sporty and failed miserably. It doesn't even ride as good as the W222 or W223 S-Class. You seem to have no clue what you're talking about.

@@MercOne true, i love Lexus and had older models, they werent outdated. But now they are. i wouldnt get lexus now as any other german cars have newer tech inside. For example i had is250 from 2006 with touch screen. There wasnt any german car with touch screen back then.

S class and A8 are super over rated the LS is the way to go

As an S Class owner and a former owner of an LS460 both are nice but the S Class is a notch above the LS however Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

2013-2020 i agree but im not a fan of how the current S class looks. interior/tech is still top tier though. if its between the S500 and LS500 id take the LS. but if you're forking extra $ for the S580 with the Twin turbo V8...well im a sucker for that engine.

@@larrywexner4163 Yes the S580 is a very nice engine. I have a 2015 S550. My initial view of the W-223S class was as you described however after sitting in both the new S class and the new LS the S class still feels a notch above what the LS offers even though both are very nice vehicles. I believe it comes down to a personal preference… You can’t go wrong with either. Of course the Lexus will win in the reliability column but fit and finish along with well-thought-out features the S class wins hands-down.

@@sufall96 It also depends on if your buying or leasing. A S500/S550 would be a great least option, you hand it back after 3 years when the warranty is almost up and the big problems show up. A Lexus is something you might want to buy. As if you take care of it, they are normally very, very dependable... It dpends on if you plan on holding on to a car for 3 years, or 10 years.... No question the LS500 is a very nice car but, if you want top tech, you want a flagship Benz.... Still kind of shocked in 2022, the LS500 does not offer wireless Android Auto or Apple Carplay... A entry level car from 2 years ago had it...

I also own an S550 and traded in my LS460 for it. 12 years total driving both vehicles now, and looking for my next vehicle. Loved my Lexus LS460, and wife is on her second ES350, but we both agreed that the Mercedes S550 is the best vehicle we have ever owned in terms of ride, quiet, performance, luxury, comfort, styling, etc. Not as reliable as my LS460, of course, but much better tech and safety systems than her newer Lexus. I do pay more to maintain my S550 as all parts and service cost more than Lexus equivalents, but as long as one is as obsessive about maintenance as I am you will have a reliable car. 76K miles and NO breakdowns on the road. Yes some recalls early on and CD changer went out at 70K (real challenge to replace this!) but we had confidence to take 4000 mile trip out West before Covid and would do so again.

Love saloons and this one is my favourite. I don’t get the fuss about SUVs, to me they look like vans or pick up trucks. You can’t appreciate Lexus well enough unless you drive one for some time, they’re easy to live with and comfortable and luxurious with the best made seats in the industry. Reliability is also an element of luxury because if a car breaks down on you or makes you visit garages too often for stupid electronic faults then that’s where your luxury fades away. . Btw the reviewer seems like he hates the car

Better leather, insulation, more comfort, speed is there when you need it, it’s the full package. Btw I’m only 30 years old

The feel of the buttons and knobs are often underrated in my opinion. It's usually a great way to tell precisely how much quality has been put into something. Over the past 15 years I have owned and driven a succession of older luxury "barges" as we call them. Jaguar XJ8, Range Rover, Mercedes S Class and a LS430. Of all of them I had the Jaguar for the longest at 9 years and only sold it as I have back issues and it was too low to the ground, the Range Rover was the opposite and the S Class was a horrendous lemon with electronic and gear box issues. The LS430 is my current car of 4 years now and apart from a sticking steering wheel motor (that I dont use) its been the pinnacle of reliability and comfort. As mentioned in the comments I do not want or need a dynamic fast sports car I want comfort, reliability and quality and the Lexus delivers in ways the others just dont.

@@TheCoolDave I have a 2001 LS 430 with the ultra premium luxury package. No steering wheel issues. Just 175,000 KM. I’ve had it since 2008. It’s the most reliable automobile since the history of the automobile, lol it’s true. I also bought an 2010 LS 460 L all-wheel-drive. Ultrapremium luxury, package. A unique executive package without the bolster dividing the two seats, more like the Toyota Century as it has the large TV/DVD/CD at the rear between the seats. I love both cars. I didn’t sell the LS 430 because so many people wrote about wishing they kept it after they had purchased the LS 460. I thought, why wait and see. The LS 430 is the Daily driver. LS 460, it’s for a special and when it snows a lot, lol. Only when it’s fresh snow as they don’t salt very quickly in my little town lol.

@@MrMrremmington I've been through most LS models.... I've had a 1996 LS400, a 2001 LS430, a 2007 LS460L and I currently own a 2014 LS460 (that is very loaded with AWD and Dynamic Cruse). All the cars have been very reliable over all, they have their known issues but, over all best cars I have ever owned. The LS430 is just getting very dated looking now, but, I agree it was a very smooth car, the big thing with the 430 is the timing belt, if it breaks, bye bye motor, and to replace it (every 60K-90k or so), it's a big job, need to pull most of the front of the motor apart to get to it. Even small shops would charge around $1200-1500 to do it and dealer, expect a $4-5K job.. In the LS460 they moved to a timing chain, that does not really need anything. I love the 2014, I even added Android Auto(the infotainment system was dated on the day it was released) and Remote start ... If the tires are in great shape, as long as the snow does not go over the wheel wells, I can get through it, it sticks to the road like glue. I do wish it was a L due to the space of the back seat but, the deal I got on before covid, let's just say if someone hit me and totaled it, I would see close to $20K extra.... First car I have made money on....LOL

I had an ES 350 FWD HATED itr so much I traded it back 4 months later for a GS 350 AWD and 18 months later I traded it in for my LS 460 L AWD and this is a keeper The IS is terrible when compared to the Subaru Legacy

Great review. I think Lexus nail what this class is all about. Who would buy a vehicle like this hoping it handled like a sports car. If that's what you want get an MX5/3 series/S3 etc. It's about luxury, a smooth ride and quietness. It well bests the Germans in these areas, BMW most noticably. The 7 series is not particularly quiet, not particularly smooth and sure, it might handle quite well for an oil tanker but not compared to most other (smaller) cars in BMW's range. So I say well done Lexus.

That's the reason why I would buy because it's a flagship or Ninja champion sedan! Don't want a v-12 a waste of money.Well at 140 don't want it will take 19 instead.All the way down to about 55,000.

I own a 2018 LS500 luxury package. It’s sheer joy to drive. I would recommend it every single time. A true luxury car.

What I hate about Lexus IS them offering trims for every other country but USA. That Executive Kiriko trim in Red/Black is ONLY offered in all black here in the USA and you don’t get the two rear entertainment screens/dvd player. This is now going to also happen with the LC500 with introduction of the Hokkaido trim not being allowed for the USA.

@@mrbungle112loser5 planned on replacing one of our cars with one but def not with the 2021+ facelift and horrid slapped on touch screen. We just replaced our ISF with a GSF a few weeks ago, still plan to possibly get a LC or LS as a 3rd car in near future.

Audi and Mercedes aren't as bulletproof as LEXUS and that's a snapple fact.

When I was in the market for a used luxo-barge, it was clear to me that buying a MercS, BMW750, or AudiA8 with over 70k or 80k miles was a great way to send your Service Writer's kid to College. But maybe, just maybe I could avoid that with an LS460. I took that plunge on a 2013 and LOVE that car. And so far, service has been low. In 20 years, I'm not sure a 20yo 750iL will be on the road, due to horribly costly repairs. Which is a shame. I think an LS500 will be on the road, happily getting close to 200k miles.

My 10 year old BMW is a service nightmare. In the next 4 years I anticipate I will spend more on the car than I bought it for, and want it gone. Drive dynamics are also terrible.

I drive the low budget sedan the ES and people would rather purchase a fully loaded ES and get the most for the money than a 100k LS. Also Lexus should change the body style for the LS, it’s a beautiful car but doesn’t have the WOW factor, most people can’t tell the difference from an ES and LS good video.

I owned a Mercedes 560 SEL and now own a BMW 750 I X drive M sport and my Lexus LS 460 L AWD puts all the German cars to shame in dependability and actual cost of ownership . The BMW 750 is fun to drive but its cost a fortune to maintain .The Lexus in sport mode is no slouch either . The Beamer cost over $20,000 more then my Lexus and the truth of the matter is is not worth it

Forgot - my big concern is twin turbo V-6 initial throttle response in around town driving. Having driven only V-8 cars (Lexus, Mercedes) for the past 12 years, this would be a real downer for me. How did you find the throttle response around town?

the only thing that is relevant is power to weight ratio, the actual engine response in modern twin turbo engines is not the same as it used to be decades back, turbo lag is almost gone.

i often switch from driving a land cruiser 200, and 2 mercedes, the throttle response on the mercs is horrendous, i could mash the throttle and nothing would happen, I imagine that is what driving the new LS would feel like. But the upside of the lexus is that is has direct injection

Have seen many many video car reviews during my current search for a replacement for my current Mercedes S550 (owned Lexus LS460 previously) and very disappointed I cannot test drive or purchase car with this interior in US. Only all black Executive interior available here - don't like. Suggestion: No background music while you are talking while driving. Much better to hear the presence or absence of background noise from car and road - that is useful info. Plus music is somewhat cheesy. Otherwise excellent review.

The car to buy if you are on the market for a large luxury sedan. Every generation of Lexus LS has been a success. Supple luxury ride with Lexus's Legendary reliability! Can you say the same for the unreliable, plastic German competitors with terrible re-sale value???

Theres nothing to market in the first place, technology in the Lexus is outdated compared to Germans and new car buyers dont care about the reliability because pretty much all cars are reliable brand new and covered under warranty. This car is only for the small minority of people who prefer an older-style luxury car which Lexus happens to offer, vast majority of people don't want that. If they want to actually compete properly, they would have to redesign the whole thing and update the tech and ofcourse marketing :) I think this Lexus would sell quite popular if they turned into an EV or hydrogen power like the Mirai.

That's why most buyer in this segment are go with S-Class. LS is pretty sure a beautiful and dream car, but Lexus need to makes something better or at least keep up with the competition.

I am very time to buy an LS and I love the LS. It looks too similar to the ES there’s no reason why $100,000 car should look like a $40,000 car they need to change the sheet the lead to look entirely different.

The thing about the LS is that it looks literally exactly like the ES….. same size, same engine same everything, but it’s double the price? I don’t understand it. LS = Luxury sedan…… ES = Executive (Luxury) sedan…… so what’s the real difference?

Errr.. Have u really seen where merc audi and bmw went? For untrained eye without badging them, many ppl can't differentiate them either.

You need to drive both models and you will see that the LS blows the ES away.

I'll be real with you... I love everything about this car except how the front grill looks🥲 other than that this car is gorgeous in every aspect.

In the middle east it solds like gold

unfortunately its overpriced for its looks. but the ride is indeed luxury.

No its not read consumer reports the LS is not that reliable but just keep repeating what everyone says!!

Tech matters to me more than luxury

I've yet to see a 1%-ter chauffeured in a Lexus LS. Maybach? Yes. Rolls, Bentley? Yes.

Clavey, You kinda miss the most important feature. People by Lexus because it’s reliable. It’s driving life is double that of the other cars. (Research data). Mercedes BMW and Audi are notoriously lemons. Beautiful cars but a disaster to own. If you want the driving experience of European cars and you have a sensible head on your shoulders lease them. I bought a used 210 LS 460 LAWD ultra premium luxury package.Yes the interior of the new LS 500 is beautiful but I can’t handle the spindle grill. The 2010 does not have the dreaded control pad in the centre consul, a touchscreen in the dash which works fantastically well. I do find the LC quite beautiful.

@@claveyscorner3220 Oh but they do. We had 12 BMWs on my Street,various type. About One dozen physicians, Professors from the University. A plumber, retired, Realtors. It’s embarrassing when your neighbours keep asking you where is your seven series, your convertible BMW, your Mercedes, and the reply as it’s getting fixed again. When the car strands you and you have an important career you simply ditch that car and buy something reliable. There are multiple Lexus on our street now, no BMWs, two Mercedes-Benz. You can’t be very intelligent if the cachet of a BMW or Mercedes is the primary motivating factor of purchasing. If you lease one you don’t run into as many problems. JD Power analytics elucidates reality. My brand new, to order 2000 E430 4 Matic Mercedes Benz had $15,000 warranty work in the first year, gearbox, seat heater, digital clock malfunction, air conditioning failure. And on and on it went. Same with the BMW three series bought brand new. Same with an Audi TT 2000 bought brand new. No problem with the LS 400 used, sold it to a friend, he it up to 475,000km. We also bought an ES 300 Lexus no problems 12 years. Then a 350 Lexus. And an LS 430 which I have. And an LS 460 L all-wheel-drive. The writings on the wall dude. Lexus set the industry standard for reliability and customer satisfaction.

sedans need a comeback

From a realistic perspective, I'd rather go for a lexus that provides you everything under the sun that its eyecandy german rivals that'll breakdown anyday

A twin turbo six cylinder in a vehicle of this size is a deal breaker for me.

Well that engine is actually powerful than the previous generation LS.

funny thing is that cars like this can last for decades but are likely replaced like 2 years later and the guy driving it can probably afford to do so lol

How odd that over the last 15 odd years, the top of the line LS has slowly evolved to be exactly like the little brother, the GS that was more than 15 years ago (which a friend and I leased for a month to drive across America)... with tiny sculpting modifications & that stupidly amateur grill, of course.

I drove a 2013 LS460 and 2013 GS a year ago, and can tell you the LS is on another level. Wider, longer, quieter, more solid. I bought the LS.

i know this car but a used LS is more expensive a used S or A8 or Serie 7 in France :p

I don't think high sales volumes was the original purpose of the large luxury sedan. These cars are all about exclusivity, cutting edge luxury, and looks. Although, for quite some time, manufacturers were not innovating enough in this segment, in terms of aesthetics. selling up to 4000 units is plenty enough. The price of the large sedan (if priced well, and high enough) should cover costs. Even if it means breaking even. I am glad Toyota are not scrapping the LS. They mustn't. Prestige is not determined by quantitative economics, but, rather by a qualitative approach.

he said "no one is buying them" uh yah cause for 90K there like I might as well get a German car, this car needs to be 65-75k so people see it as a high end luxury car for a reasonable price with better reliability than the competitors then they will start taking some market share back..........

That lexus looks like "hello from 2007" in compare to s-class 2022, design is outdating, panels are outdating, media outdating, interior lights outdating, screens pictures like nokia 2007. Literally "hello from 2007".
