Just so you know. Movies that were or are filmed using actual film is better than digital. So when you watch a older movie that was filmed the pixel is over 40,000,000 to 60,000,000 vs digital which is only 9,000,000. This is why film looks better on 4K Ultra vs a movie that was filmed using digital. Film is Superior to Digital.

Other movies may be comedies and be very vulgar, but for vulgarities sake. It's more about purpose and use of (not too much of a good thing, change it up every once in a while.)

Lol, U remember when OJ Simpson was running from the police at 5 mph in the famous white bronco chase, they were saying that he was threatening to shoot himself. With my dark sense of humor that's the first thing that popped in my mind, I just couldn't help but picture OJ doing the same thing. Because it was an original idea, today movies are just a copy and psste of a prequel of a sequel of a reboot

The best part about Sheriff Bart singing "The Camptown Races" while he's putting up the wanted posters @13:53 is that just a few scenes prior, he claimed to not know the song when Lyle asked him to sing, prompting Lyle and the others to make asses of themselves, proving how wily and witty Bart is compared to his adversaries. I love how subtle Mel Brookes is in showing this to the audience with little things like that.

The funniest part with that opening song - Brooks just wanted a soundalike to that singer, and was surprised when the genuine article auditioned. He then felt kind of bad because he got the impression that the singer didn't actually realize that it was a *parody* movie, as he gave the song his all.

The Morons line was improvised, and the reaction at the end was genuine and unscripted.

Mel Brooks was concerned about the language and stereotypes and asked Richard Pryor if he thought they had gone too far. You see what his answer was.

The uncut version's "Dwessing Woom" scene is even more hilarious. After the "It's twue!! It's twue!!", Bart says "Yeah, it's twue, but you're sucking on my arm." Even in this movie the censors wouldn't let that shit fly.

I saw the uncut, the line is ; "Excuse me ma'am, but your sucking on my elbow". They could have left it , it's funny.

There is an interview with Mel were he talks about the language used in the movie. What people don't realize is that the studio was more worried about the farting scene than the language. He was told to take it out but he refused. He actually got in trouble when the movie came out. After the numbers were in, the studio wasn't upset any more.

A bit of history for those to young to remember Heady Lamar. The was a famous actress from Germany, that escaped from Germany in the 1930's because her husband was Jewish. She was also a brilliant inventor, and created a system of rotating radio frequencies that the US used to create bombs and torpedoes. The exact same technology (known as "Spread Spectrum") that ultimately made cell phones and Blu Tooth possible. That is what the name of "Hedley Lamar" was spoofing.

Bruh, I love how you said, "This movie didn't seem that racist," and I think that's straight up because this movie is making fun of racists. What's crazy about it too is that it's meta in itself. The movie is showing that the racists are absolute morons, but it's also making fun of any critics who might take offense to a black man being cast as the main character in a movie (ESPECIALLY OVER GENE WILDER!) I imagine that there was probably some projected controversy about that at the time, and the movie is saying, "Hey, these racists are dumb. Are you gonna be racist and dumb too?" I love this movie. Because it isn't racist. It is the opposite. This was from an era not that long ago when people could have fun with racial differences and we laughed about it. Not sure what happened in the last 10 years but somehow we managed to lose our way and become way too sensitive.

Glad you enjoyed this movie, Mel Brooks is such a phenomenal writer/director/producer/actor but you definitely gotta have a certain type of sense of humour to fully appreciate it lol

Mel used Richard as a co-writer in the sense that he sought Richard's council and approval for the script (watch the movie- you'll understand) and it's humor. He used to go to him and say "Richard, bless this" everytime he wrote a new scene. Context is KEY wit his humor, always has been. It's why he's much more than a slapstick genius- he's absolutely fearless.

When this movie came out, apparently my father saw it 5 times in theaters. Each time he brought a new friend. He wanted everyone to see this movie.

The line, "Little Bastard shot me in the ass" gets me every time.

My kids thinks it's better to erase the ugly parts of history from culture today. They call me racist for acknowledging things that make me uncomfortable. I tell them that censorship is the tool of tyrants. They say "ok boomer". Ffs I'm only 43. They won't be able to communicate their ideas in the future if the words and concepts they need are erased from the lexicon. Sadly the won't know the difference. We are all fucked .

There were some golden lines in this movie. The my favorite was the hangman saying 'welcome to hanging house, not to worry, everyone's equal in my eye' 🤣 so much is packed into that statement it's hilarious

Fun trivia: After promising Warner Brothers that he would edit out several "offensive" scenes, such as the infamous farting sequence, Mel Brooks never cut a single scene except one: after the room is darkened and Lilly (Madeline Kahn) informs Bart "It's TWUE! It's TWUE!," Bart (Cleavon Little) quietly states, "You're sucking on my arm." The scene was later added back to the home video release. Fun trivia: When auditioning for the role of Lili, Madeline Kahn was asked by Mel Brooks to pull up her skirt so he could see her legs. She was quite hesitant, being unclear of Brooks' intentions. Brooks actually just wanted to see if she had legs good enough to approximate Marlene Dietrich's famous "gams." So she lifted her skirt and said, "No touching." Fun trivia: At the end of the movie when the whole group is running out of the Warner Brothers studio front gates, there is a man in a sweater standing on the sidewalk, watching the action. Mel Brooks has said that the man was not part of the movie, and had simply wandered into the scene. They shooed him away and then went to film the scene. The guy came back into the shot, and is seen standing next to a light pole as the characters stream past him down the street. Brooks had asked the man to move, as they were getting ready to shoot that scene. The man, not understanding their requests, stood there. So Brooks sent out a waiver for him to sign, and left him in the movie.

The point of all the racism and "N" word all over when Mel Brooks made Blazing Saddles was to actually show just how dumb racism is. Look at the characters and how they think and act while being racist. Then look at how smart the none racist characters are.

@@AnythingLounge i think you misunderstand the demographic that people refer to as "soft snowflakes". it's the demographic which actively protests against the existence of movies that mock racism. if the subject matter is too much for someone without them disavowing it as racist, then I doubt that anyone cares. movies like blazing saddles and the more recent jojo rabbit are some of the best tools by which to combat racism. every joke is made at the expense of the bigoted and the corrupt. it is good to be able to laugh at movies like this (although i understand if people are too uncomfortable to) because it mocks such stupid ideologies. i'm admittedly talking as a white person, but having one's ideas laughed at is the greatest defeat for an idiot.

Even Hedley Lamarr, I don't see him as actually racist... but knew he could advance his money making schemes by sending the town a black sheriff. So both intelligent, scheming, but not really racist... just using racism against idiots to do his bidding.

I love that this movie made you laugh so hard. This is one of my favorite movies ever. Before Family Guy, before South Park, and before The Simpsons there was Mel Brooks. He was absolutely ridiculous and it was awesome. He received a lot of criticism for this film and had numerous conflicts with studio, but he refused to make any substantial changes. The sensitive Sally's who are offended by this film don't realize that it was not promoting or endorsing racism, but instead was using satire to point out how stupid and nonsensical racism is. Plus, Mel Brooks made fun of everyone in all of his movies. Blazing Saddles was really ahead of its time in a lot of ways. A lot of people also don't know that Richard Pryor helped Brooks write the script and he was just as opposed as Brooks to making any heavy edits. They knew the movie would push buttons and generate conversations and possibly even controversy, which is exactly what they wanted. Awesome reaction, dude.

Hollywood comedy experts: "So there's a specific formula we use that is guaranteed to have them rolling in their seats..." Mel Brooks: "Give me CHAOS"

"Excuse me while I whip this out" was my catch phrase for more years than necessary...

I saw this in the theater when it came out, and you could literally hear everyone's butt cheeks clench up right before the belly laughter. And the hot songstress with the silly German accent was making fun of Marlena Dietrich... a famous WW2 crooner that American G.I.'s loved. She sang in an uber low register and was dramatic.

I saw this in the movie theater way back then ('74 I think). It was so funny and absolutely NO PC or snow-flakes. The camp fire and beans scene was so unexpected, but so over the top funny. No one could keep from laughing till they cried.

Remember, one of the writers of this movie, was the late great Richard Pryor.

I think the problem would have been that the one would have been utterly changed with Pryor in the Bart role. Clevon Little plays it where all the racism just rolls off him: he's above the crap being thrown at him. I think Pryor would have had the part more to where he's throwing back the same insults being thrown at him. Would have been an entirely different movie. Fun fact, Fred the Hammer Williamson made the movie 'Adios Amigo' expressly because Pryor was shut out of 'Blazing Saddles'. Williamson also made a movie that is essentially 'Blazing Saddles' played as a straight western, called 'Boss Nigger' where two black bounty hunters take over a western town with a corrupt mayor. That one has a pretty good fistfight with Williamson and William Smith at the end.

Okay, just a couple of thoughts...as another person commented, Richard Pryor was one of the writers; however, what many may not know is that before Cleavon Little's casting, Pryor was strongly considered, but the network nixed the idea, saying that his style of comedy was, "...too blue (racy)..."; that would have been the first of what turned out to be a series of "Buddy Comedies" with Gene Wilder; Second, in the moderator's choice of referring to Sheriff Bart's resembling a power Ranger, look up the name Bass Reeves, who for over 30 years was the first Black Deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi and the real-life inspiration for the Lone Ranger (legend has it that at least one of the writers of the original Lone Ranger radio show lived down the street from one of the prisons where many of the close to 3,000 criminals he arrested were jailed, and he lived in, and spoke at least one language of Native American...

This is how we end racism, by not getting our panties in a bunch over jokes and being able to laugh along with them. Thank you. I hope you understand how important videos like this are. Subbed.

I think we end racism by ending racism. Your idea of "not getting our panties in a bunch" doesn't mean that letting racist jokes slide is the way to go. The jokes in this movie are in some instances racist, but the overall point was that racism is stupid and it used racist language to show that. Many people in the US still think that just straight racist jokes are ok, they are not. And hell yes I'll get my painties in a bunch over them. We have come a long way since the 70's and backsliding will never be a good thing. Comedy can be a learning device, or it can be a cruel, destructive force. Choosing to teach is always better than tearing down people. And that is why we "get our panties in a bunch" when some insensitive ass makes a racist, homophobic, sexist joke. Being a better person is a choice, but we do have to choose.

Something of note: Blazing Saddles exists not to make light of racism, it’s purpose instead is to show just how utterly stupid and ignorant racism is. We’re all human and we’re all capable of greatness. To me, that’s the light that Blazing Saddles really shines. It’s commentary and satire at its finest.

Your obvious enjoyment reinforces the humor of the movie. I have loved this movie since I saw it when it came out in 1974. I grew up watching westerns every Saturday and really appreciated the spoofs of the westerns. Thank you.

Richard Pryor was a writer and was also supposed to play the sheriff, but the studio thought that Pryor was too much of a risk, so the part went to Cleavon Little. And as much as I love Richard Prior, and how amazing he was in every other movie that he did with Gene Wilder, I have to say that Cleavon Little totally nailed it. I just can’t imagine anyone else, including Richard Prior, playing the part any better.

“A man that drinks like that, and does not eat, is going to die.” “When?” 😂😂😄😄😂😄

The cowboy in the red shirt, Lyle, is plsyed by Burton Gilliam. He's originally from Dallas, and still lives just north of there. He's 85 years old, and still makes public appearances in the area, usually dressed in an outfit similar to the one he wore in this movie. He even made TV commercials for a local Ford dealership!

This movie was classic Mel Brooks....everything over the top for maximum effectivness. When you have time, watch his entire catalog movies. You won't be disappointed. He is one of the few people to win an Emmy, Oscar, Grammy and Tony award. That list is extremely short.

Mel Brooks always said that if you can laugh at your pain, you’ve won.

Unfortunately, they have to recognize the need to do so, and they might miss that. Huge historical context to those references. Same with Hedy Lamarr and the story of the lawsuit.

My grandson loved to say "Where are the white wimmin" at the most surprising times to crack us all up. This is one of our favorite movies.

"Somebody's gotta go back and get a shitload of dimes!" is maybe my favorite movie quote ever.

I had no intention of watching the whole half hour of this but your appreciation and enjoyment of the movie made the time fly by and I watched every minute! Now, I’m going to watch your react video of my all time favorite comedy, Airplane!

I saw this when it first came out. It was like a guilty pleasure - you didn't really want to laugh because the jokes were so bad (or dirty) but it was so hard not to. I haven't seen it in years. It is definitely of its time. Doubt it could be made today.

@@ms.marvelous8156 I heard it discussed in the commentary. As far as the line actually recorded by Cleavon Little I don't believe it was ever done. I believe it was eliminated in the script stage but I am not positive. I would love to hear a version of that if it exists on film. For now I think this is an actual LEGEND. The only way this story remains is by being told and passed down person to person, over the years

After Bart left, Lily said, "What a nice guy!" Thank you for reacting to one of my all time favourite movies. Caught this as a late late movie when I was in my early teens and loved it ever since.

That theme song topped the charts, which is a feat in of itself, but they will never make a movie like this ever again.
