David Todd I hear ya. I have a huge board game backlog, though, and a dozen more creative outlets than I can afford, so I hope I’m safe. I actually want to like the game. I just know it’s not for me, as shocked as I have been to discover this. Blackstone Fortress might get my $ though. I’ll see if I can handle the major chaching.

I mean at the same time after the Horus Heresy the Alpha Legion appeared to vanish only to resurface as fractures warbands. It could be that these warbands operate under the illusion of being Alpha Legion but in reality are more akin to the human agents the legion utilizes. I honestly wouldn't put it past the Alpha legion to do this, I also can't see the Legion fracturing after the civil war. We're not even sure if Alpharius or Omegon even died during it.

The Hydra Dominatus whisper at the end was a nice touch! I had to listen to it twice to make out what it said. You should throw in a couple of "hacked" pics or propaganda easter eggs into the visuals of your older Alpha Legion videos at some point, if it's not too much of a bother.

Alpharius up there making the billion IQ plays so complicated even he doesn't know what he's doing 95% of the time.

Alpharius: "To confirm, they believe that the legion is an individual concept, separate from the others?" Also Alpharius: "Yes sir, they have no idea about the current levels of infiltration." Another Alpharius!? : "Absolutely, each legion believes that it is manned entirely by Astartes using their own gene seed." Not Alpharius (possibly): "Erm, but why?" Definitely Alpharius (probably): "Just to screw with them all of course!" Thank you for exposing yourself further to the madness that my favourite legion causes. I definitely wouldn't recommend checking the gene seed of any of the legions or chapters for contamination. Genuinely, I'm sure that everything is fine! 😁

Impossible everyone knows the Alpha Legions tactics consist of confuse everyone including your allies. And their structure consist of Alpharius is our leader, which becomes a problem when everybody claims to be Alpharius, except for that Omegon fellow nobody knows who he is.

Arran Slee-Smith I already have an idea for a custom chapter, that fits the bill, but its like 4th or 5th on my list of ideas, and will have to wait its turn. “Black Roses” with heraldry being primarily Navy Blue and Black with some green for thorny-vine and leaf (totally not in hydra-shaped swirls...yeah, that’s it...) patterned accents, and everything about them being “sub rosa”. In a small homebrew cluster in the halo stars just outside the galaxy where most my faction ideas are set. Recruit from a combustible/fusionable-gas-mining colony in the upper atmosphere of a rogue (ie no star) gas-giant planet with enough crazy storms to classify as a deathworld and where everyone needs to be at least minimally tech-saavy to survive. Fed by agriworld moons using huge lamps burning said gas to substitute for the lack of sunlight, and with a fortress monastery shrouded in perpetual night.

Alpha Legion will always be my favourite for many many reasons but the main one being how by their very nature and flavour you can just let your imagination run wild with them. There's no real black and white anything with them, just endless shades of grey.

Ah yes, the Alpha Legion, if you think you're not confused when fighting against them it's because they've manipulated you in to thinking that you have the upper hand.

A true lore nerd’s dream, these videos. Will you be doing one on the first legion? I would love to see a breakdown of the Hexagrammaton.

Really, Guilliman should have seen it coming. The signs were all there: the little scholar knew of chaos, showed an unnatural interest for the times most thought mere legend, and even showed that rarest of mortal qualities... A sense of the larger picture at work. A perfect tool for the work at hand. Throne, the little man had even been charming! Not in the way Guilliman was used to; no honeyed words or perfectly timed gift. He'd simply been forthright and knowledgeable, studious in listening and succinct in questions. A perfect tool, aye, but not for the job the primarch had grasped until the end. "Hyrda dominatus," the little man had hissed as a familiar looking black dagger had flashed out from his voluminous sleeves and jammed itself into Guilliman's throat. So quick for a mere mortal! Impossibly fast. An anathame dagger, the lord of Macragge realized even as the tiny weapon found its mark. But how? How could the accursed Alpha legion have seeded an asset here on Terra? It was simply unthinkable. His huge frame slumped to the ground as the the horrible weapon did its work and the robed scholar slipped from the chamber and was soon lost in the sea of similarly dressed historians.

Frater Mathieu in the Dark Imperium novels mentions that the temple where he was educated came under attack by Heretic Astartes bearing hydra iconography...and that he just so happened to be the only survivor so even if it isn't Occulus it's not impossible.

I doubt that the AL would attempt to assassinate Guilliman. A self confident primarch with a penchant for "pragmatism"(someone who believes he knows what is going on around him) who set himself up as the highest authority in the Imperium is way to great of a tool for them to just throw away.

Excellent as always, historitor. One aspect I was hoping to hear your take on, is the assertion that after the heresy, the 20th was the only traitor legion to NOT go into the Eye of Terror. Still, fantastic as always. Perhaps that little whisper at the end shows you have such knowledge, just declined to comment upon it:)

I always assumed their job would have been to monitor the other Legions for treacherous elements and eliminate them. Doing so in secret so they wouldn't need to deal with the petty politics of the other Legions.

Wasn’t Leeman Russ the one sent to dispatch the two lost legions? I suppose it’s possible the Alphas were there too and nobody knows... or that it was entirely them and Russ was a scapegoat or distraction.

Zeno Blues Makes sense, but are there examples of other legions being culled? We have a couple you might think were on any list that existed. It’d be coherent to speculate the odd disappeared Blood Angel may have met with Alpha Legion affections, but is there any evidence this has happened? I don’t recall coming across any.

@@benf1742 There's no evidence the Alpha Legion ever did that but it was very common for Primarchs to purge their Legions, however as seen with the Istvan III Atrocity in which Nathaniel Garro betrayed Mortarion this practice wasn't guaranteed to work all the time.

In the accounts I’ve read of their pre heresy actions. There were regardless of the author of such account two commonalities. 1. The Alpha legion astartes were not psykers, but they frequently employed mortal psykers 2. They frequently use disguise. What makes the last one interesting is in the account of an Iron Hands legionnaire, wearing the battle plate of another legion was challenging. The Alpha legion seems to be able to wear any battle plate of any legion without difficulty.

Hehe that last little bit at the end was amazing. Love your videos (and the possible fact that Decious might be a loyalist agent of Alpharious)

I know I'm in the minority, but the I think the Alpha Legion is a good idea done badly. In most (not all) stories and lore, they're too good at what they do and get their way too much. All their secrets are kept perfectly, they are somehow able to constantly shift themselves around without confusing themselves, they can infiltrate (and have infiltrated) everything. They are seven steps ahead of everyone, all the time. If you were to write any other legion or faction as having such perfect abilities, you wouldn't even get half the words out without being cut off by a chorus of "Mary Sue!"
