Wow that's crazy about the way you can change milage. That's something I wouldn't use myself. other than that, it does a lot more than my other two scanners do. You're right the price point isn't bad. I may just order one up after the holidays. Take care sir and happy holidays to you and Carmen .

Of course it allows that. You have to be able to do that in order to replace the cluster should the cluster fail which isn't that uncommon on some cars. It wont change the mileage in any of the computer's or control modules. That's how people get caught.

Big Clive did a video a couple years back about a sketchy OBD2 dongle that would adjust the mileage. A mechanic found it wired into a car he was working on. The technology has been around for a while.

The xtool ip616 i good enough 300 bucks and basically get a mini copy of earlier snap on scanners but updated. It's actually pretty good, considering i was able to do injector coding on a honda when the workshops own 5 grand scanner failed to communicate at work

You can do that anyway, have to be able to do that to change guage clusters in some

This is a basic function of any good scantool. This is nothing special. I guess you all are excited since you are not use to this functionality. I mean, when you get your car serviced and inspected they note the mileage, so you can't cheat the system. This function is there in case you need to replace the intrument cluster. The mileage is stored in the cluster (and sometimes the BCM) so when you get a new cluster you will have to update the mileage to the correct number. Again, it nothing special, and it's quite hard to get around the system of mileage tracking of cars and trucks.

I'm betting it only changes it in the instrument cluster. Useful if you need to swap out a dead one. Although if it supports ECU/PCM and BCM replacement programming you could still falsify the odometer fully. So as of now what bidirectional scan tool would you recommend for the home mechanic? Pretty much only work on my own, and family's junk. Would like to stay in the $400-$600usd range if possible. Also my condolences on Mr. Tom. He was actually the reason I started following you. My Tuxedo passed in June after 17 years of a good life.

Thank you he was a amazing cat I did adopted a 6 year female tuxedo this past fall. She has been very comical since moving in. As far as bidirectional scanners good in that price range is a huge gamble. I am a huge fan of Autel as I purchased the 906bt a few years ago and it’s been amazing but they do have no-direction scanners in your price range

As it happens BMW have a built in thing to check if the mileage has been tampered with, it shows a little light somewhere. Now this poses a question, is it possible your vehicle now thinks the mileage has been tampered with? So have you been hit by the big snow storm hitting America?

to be allowed to adjust the mileage means you can buy a used cluster and put the mileage in accordingly...how ever you can not adjust the mileage that the ecm/pcm has locked in so the REAL mileage if tapered with can be obtained thank you .

Will that Xtools allow you to program parameters and timers controlled by the ecu or pcm? Like the latest gen Superduty have stupid things like timers on the power outlets. I hear they can be changed, just don’t have a computer capable of it.

remember that mileage adjust only goes for the shown mileages. Not for the real mileage stored in several other modules. When checking you can find the real mileage there.. Good to see if you are being scammed.

Truth of the matter those that would change odometer readings already have a way to do it. One thing far too many people have a difficult time grasping is laws are for law abiding people, not criminals becauae criminals don't care what the law says. They are just going to do what they want anyway. Just like locking your doors, that only keeps honest people out. If a criminal wants in, he's going to get in, it's just how much damage is going to do getting in. If a criminal wants in he'll go steal a car and drive it though a wall if he has to. As for the scanner allowing you to adjust the mileage, there are some legitimate uses for it.

Isn’t that the truth well Said, i have noticed that lots of scanners will only allow mileage adjustment within a percentage or it won’t work at all but every vehicle is different along with each scanner to what you can or can’t do
