Great video, you almost need a cheat sheet that tells you the abilities and disabilities of each scanner. The marketing brochure would make it sound like it can do everything but you also limited on what the car can provide.

I've had this XTool D8 for about 2 years. It has served me very well and it pulls pin codes. I'm looking to upgrade to a tool that can work on Toyota Hybrids and do the SPS function on GM vehicles. I don't know where to turn for good advice. It's time for me to step up my diagnostic arsenal.

I think it’s pretty common knowledge that some tools have IMMO functions and some don’t. Aka my $500 IM508 Autel can pull the pin# off of most Chrysler products. This is because it is an actual IMMO tool. Pretty crazy how these aftermarket tools can do this seeing as the OEM tool (Witech) can not.

I just wanted to let you know that I have a D8BT and I had to go to the dealer to get the PIN code on my 06 Dodge Caravan. As long as you have it registered in your name, they will give you the PIN code for free. But the my x tool D8BT did not retrieve the PIN code for me, but after I received the PIN code from the Dodge dealer, my Xtool was able to program the key for me that I had made from a locksmith, although anyway I am happy with my x tool scanner

Thanks for the info, every Dodge and Jeep that I have tried it on it has pulled the pin code with no problem.

Hey you seem to be very knowledgeable may I pls ask what is the difference between the various tazer tools and the Xtool?

I've seen the wired D8 as low as four hundred fifty.. The LAN/ bluetooth versions are usually higher though.

Anything you recommend better than D8? I want one that does nearly all. Xtool is known for having special functions that not work on all vehicles. When it comes to key programmimg, if the original key never hard key remote start, is there a way to write the functionality? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Nice info. Looks like t(e Xtool also does topology? Nice! Bi directional? Can it activate things like run / toggle on/off fuel pump, windows, wipers etc? If so, great tool for the money!

@@737mechanic Ihave the Thinktool pro. I wanted the pros but accidentally got the pro. No topology. Some of these tools has so many extra little things between each model that is hard to make a informed purchase when buying and for just a extra $50… Then there is always something better the next step up would do, but you are unaware what that extra $100 gives you.

@@unclemarksdiyauto You are exactly right about that. That is why I do a lot of scan tool walkthroughs on different cars so people can get an idea of what certain scan tool s are capable of on different makes and models.

Unbelievable, I want to run out and grab the xtool D8. Who knew??

Hi, nice comparison. xtool is known above all for its key reprogramming capabilities, this is one of its strong points, but it also has many weak points...

I have pulled pin codes on dodge, jeep, Nissan, and GM and no other scan tool I have seen can do that.

I haven't had it connected to many cars that have PIN codes but the couple I have it was unable to pull the PIN codes.

I want to see it program an ir key for Mercedes Benz 😂😂😂

You know nastf is fighting to take that away. And most tools, even the few thousands ones, will be useless to pull pin codes to add a key or even replace any part that requires pin codes like a bcm replacement when this new rule, yes, it's a rule, not a law takes effect. That means all working people will have to make their own business apply for a 1 million dollar insurance and agree to a background check, which I agree with a background check and proof you are legit but now having to build my own firm and get insurance that's an extra cost which would past to customers and the cost of repairs are high as it is. Please do a video of tools not participating in that nastf and tool manufacturers that are not participating could easily charge extra and do a background check to use the immo side of the tool, easier access and still have the same security as nastf but without the hassle of building your firm getting a 1 million dollar insurance and so forth. Thanks for your videos.

All them special functions don’t work on different cars. I bought a xTool d7 ended up selling it because very limited to what I could do all them special functions. Let say you want to do a brake job well go into special functions and it won’t work on a lot of cars don’t be fooled by this video I say it again I was very disappointed.I ended up doing a lot of research so I went for the Autel 906ts pro a bit pricey but you pay for what you get.Now it’s 600 a year to update mine but I’m so happy with it. There’s to model one is ts does online programming and I think bk model does not. Don’t buy these xtools. And fair play to this youtuber doing this review but a word of advice don’t buy this. When you plug it up to a car I can’t stress this enough only a few special functions work

I can't comment on the D7 since I have never owned one but the D8BT special functions have all worked for me on lots of different cars except for 2 things that xtool fixed. I have had a Autel MS906TS for probably 8 years now and it has had its share of issues that had to be fixed with updates. My go to scan tool for the past 2 years has been my D8BT. If you are talking about the special function button that list the 36 or so special functions you need to realize those are year, make, and model specific. Meaning that if your car does not have electronic parking brake you can't expect the electronic parking brake special function to retract the calipers. What year make and model did you have problems with?

@@737mechanic Vw golf Mk6 in fairness I haven’t tried the D8 model so I can’t be 100% sure how good it is.i do know if you go into live data on Autel it gives the key code. I really not sure about d8 model maybe I shouldn’t have commented on it.cheers

In the near future you’ll wake up, go to program a car key in and you’ll be presented with a screen that asks you to input your vsp credentials. Legit business, have insurance l? Then you won’t have any problems getting the background check done as long as you don’t have a criminal history with recent felonies. Watch the 2 hr video called navigating the future of automotive locksmithing and you’ll probably wait to buy a tool for awhile.

You are probably correct, It sucks we don't live in a free country and so many companies feel the need to control the masses unless of course, you want to pay money then you can play the game. It's all about the money.

im in the market for one of these scan tool will the xtool reprogram the modules say like the ABS module on a ford edge or a Infiniti Q60?
