xTool Creative Space Tutorial | D1 Pro Edition | Dec 2023 UPDATE
Ғылым және технология
Here is a not so quick tutorial on xTool Creative Space for the D1 Pro Laser Engraving Machine. It starts off with general information on how Creative Space works and then goes into the specifics of using the software with the D1 Pro machine. I will try to come out with different versions based on the different machines as some of the options change bases on the machine you have. The first 30 minutes or so should apply to all xTool Machines.

Great video. Thank you.
Perhaps unidirectional engraving mode could help reduce heat in the material such as aluminum or steel engraving by giving the metal time to cool? Help prevent warping?Great tutorial, Thanks!
There are Lightburn files in the collections because Xtool supports Lightburn. They have F1 and S1 Lightburn profiles that may be downloaded to get Lightburn working with those lasers. Great tutorial!
Thanks!

Great video! Very valuable information, especially when first starting out with D1 Pro and xcs. I'm sure I'll refer to the video many times. In the "trace" option, in order to engrave from a .bmp file, do I just trace then go straight to engrave?
@BusterBeagle3D
3 ай бұрын
You would only need to trace something if you wanted vector files. Technically you can engrave straight from a bitmap but it would process the white space as well and could potentially take longer.
Best tutorial I've seen yet!!! My only question is do you not use the honeycomb?
@BusterBeagle3D
2 ай бұрын
Thank you! I use the honeycomb only when cutting. If I’m doing engraving I use the grid on the spoilboard.
Thank you for your videos, all of them are really useful. I've been wondering, how did you manage to engrave the spoil grid on that metal? I have a d1pro 10w as far as i know it's not possible to engrave metal with it.
@BusterBeagle3D
Ай бұрын
If you are talking about the S1 then yes even a 10W laser can do it. It’s really just removing a small layer of coating on the metal and not engraving into the metal itself. It’s no different than engraving in tumblers which I’ve even done with 5W lasers.
Thanks! I enjoyed the overview. Can you please share the dpi or level of detail you used or how it was calculated. I have the 10w 20w & 40w d1 pro
@BusterBeagle3D
4 ай бұрын
Hello and thank you so much. I really appreciate it. The max dpi that you can use for each laser is based on the spot size that you can create for each . The larger the wattage the bigger the spot and less dpi that you can use. A good chart for this on the imagR site that talks about scan gaps. If you have the 10W the spot size is .06mm so you would have a max DPI of 423. If you have a 20W the spot size is .1mm so that max DPI is 254. If you have a 40W that spot size is .15mm so that max DPI is 169. You would have to convert DPI to Lines per cm if you are using xTool Creative Space. I got the spot sizes from the xTool website and the scan gap data from here: www.imag-r.com/scangap Thanks again!
Great video thank you. Ive had my D1 for over a year. I saw the first version of this video last year, and learned a lot. I switched to lightburn, because of the wider variety of functions it had. However i recently decided to go back to xcs when i noticed i obtained very very different results with the same settings using both softwares (would you have an answer to that?) I completely forgot how to navigate through xcs. Thank you again!

Different programs run different processes and algorithms on how they process files. I don't know the difference between what XCS and Lightburn does on the back end but hopefully it wasn't too far off.

It was very significant difference. Lightburn's was blurry and xcs was really clear.... I have another question hope you can help. If I am to start using absolute coordinates and burn a grid. Could I use the same grid and coordinates on both programs? Thanks a lot beforehand!
@BusterBeagle3D

@@V1lch1smYes they can. Another thought on Lightburn, just make sure that you have imported the .lbdev file from xTool when adding your machine to Lightburn. There are some additional settings in there like speed compensations that don't come over if you did the automatic setup straight from Lightburn itself. I talk about that file in the beginning of my Lightburn tutorial

Hi thank you for the valuable info. I just got the S1 and am new to xcs creative space software. I am use to using vectric v carve pro software for the cnc and I can add and modify and cut unwanted vectors with the “scissors function” and it’s highly modifiable but I can’t seem to find a scissors or cut feature with xcs. Also a measure function for a particular vector. Can you advise on these two items. It may be in light burn but I haven’t used light burn. Thanks so much.
@BusterBeagle3D

You can do those things in Lightburn but they would be more difficult or impossible in XCS. Lightburn also has a free trial that you can get before you buy it.
Great video, do you prefer this software or Lightburn?
@BusterBeagle3D
6 ай бұрын
Thanks! It really depends on the machine I'm using. Lightburn is a better more advanced piece of software that I use for almost all of my other machines. However for the xTool S1, F1, or the P2 there are modes that won't work in Lightburn so XCS is my go to for those. xTool Creative Space is however far better then any other company made laser engraving software I have tried by a pretty wide margin and only continues to improve.
Hi, can you ungroup the letters in text so you can manually move each letter like in cricut design space? I need this function for when making cake toppers to join the letters. Thanks.
I'm totally new to this although I've used a Cricut. If I am using a smaller piece of wood, will the framing process detect it and know where I want to cut? Do I assume the workspace is the whole area of the machine and just move my wood to where I've placed the object to cut? Plus, when I hit framing, it goes all the way to the end of the machine and sets off the alarm....... Help? Your tutorial was great- helped with Design Space in Cricut also. Thanks
@BusterBeagle3D

Framing will only happen where you have your art. If you are using absolute coordinates and you HOME your machine first you should see the framing happen where it corresponds to the grid of where you placed your art.

hi any chance of doing a video on the NEW xcs....would sooo help plus can or do you the coordinate grid for a d1 pro 5w or s1 10w?

I was waiting on the program to be out of Beta before I commit to another video but might work on one before that. Plus there are grids for all of those lasers on my links for Etsy.
Thank you for your helpful videos. In functions, when you select “laser extension” instead of “laser flat”, the ability to use absolute coordinates disappears. In this video you said all the options basically stay the same. That seems like a pretty big difference in options. So, can you not use absolute coordinates if you upgrade your d1 pro with the extension kit? I’m probably not understanding you correctly. Thanks
@BusterBeagle3D
5 ай бұрын
I heard someone else with the same issue with the extension. Not sure why they did that but if you are using something like my extension grid you can still use absolute coordinated the old school way. Essentially you just need to have a square in the 0,0 position that is set to something like 1% laser power and then have your actual design somewhere else on the grid. That way the laser will think that that there is something in the home position of the file and should respect the rest of your design position. If you check out the video in my channel about absolute coordinates you should see what I’m talking about and my grids even come with an absolute.xcs file that places the square there for you.
Hello, I am a newbie. Do you share your files on any platform? The grid you did on the baseplate was interesting to me.

how do i speed up engraving borders. if i engrave writing on the inside of a border, it always engraves the border first. it goes left to right doing the border first which takes ages. then it does the text last. can it not engrave the border and text at the same time. im using xcs
Hi, Thanks for a great intro video for a newbie Xtool D1 owner. Just a quick question soneone may eb able to help me iwth. I'm using a MacBook air and trying to recreate the clipping mask heart over an image but 'Make Clipping Mask' option is greyed out so I am unable to select it. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
@BusterBeagle3D

Just make sure you have both the image and the vector file selected at the same time. You will need both to apply the mask.
Do you know if there is a way to edit/delete part of the outline when you make it in creative space?
@BusterBeagle3D
4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately no. It's a simple process in Lightburn but not in XCS. You could always export it as a SVG and open it in a free program like Inkscape and edit it and then import it back in to XCS.
@johnnyruss7937

@@BusterBeagle3D Is there an easy way to edit an outline in inkscape? I have just downloaded that so I am kind of fumbling through that at the moment. Also, thank you for your videos! They are what got me to pull the trigger on getting a laser. I will be ordering the spillboard template from your etsy store to make setting things up quicker!
@BusterBeagle3D

@@johnnyruss7937 I'm unfortunately not a Inkscape user but I knew you could do it in that program. I just downloaded it to check it out and it looks like you can export the SVG out of XCS and then open it in Inkscape. Then go to the Path menu and click on Fracture Path and then click on the paths you don't want and delete. You should then be able to export it as an SVG and open it in XCS

If you don’t have a usb to usb-c adapter you could always try to connect over WiFi. You can try to do that through the XCS app on your smartphone and then once the connection is established you should also be able to connect through your laptop.
