I the think the most obvious reason why both 2d and 3d animation were used in this video was to visually convey the contrast between flashback and present. Also, I'm certain it was an intentional stylistic choice and not a cost saving measure since the 2d part was animated on 1s (a new drawing for every frame i.e. 27 drawings per second) which is very labor intensive.

@@JeffreyBezeau Maybe depends on the animation. You cant make that blanket statement it just depends on the production. Current disney movies cost far more than the older 2d movies even though its 3d vs 2d just because we have far more ambitions scenes now. With 2d animation you can go as far as something like klaus or as low as something like a low budget kids 2d animation that is rigged and with puppets. With 3d too. So its hard to say really both have their benefits. I would say that both parts take about an similar amount of time and effort riot just choose 2d animation for flashbacks because for the style.

(Talking from experience) Most animes I've seen with 3D animations have low frame rates which is why they usually less appreciated, while some are very well made (Land of the Lustrous for instance) most tend to look awkward due to low frame rate. This cinematic is really well made in that regard in my opinion

This is wrong. Actually you paid salary for artist per second. So if you make longer video, you have to paid more. And the quality depends on who do the art. 3D animation and 2D animation have their own difficult. I would say on the top level, they are pretty equal on money.

It is impossible to tell which one is more expensive since they use different licenses and softwares. If we ignore those factors, 3D animation studio still charge you more than 2D animation. In general, you can easily hire a 2D studio that could land around $3,000-$50,000 while 3D studio will cost from $10,000 to $200,000. For example: a WoW cinematic ~ $12m/ 3-4 minutes. Lastly, I live in Australia, 3D animator salary average is round $60.000/year and 2D animator is $55,000/year.

2d animation is WAY more expensive than 3d, what was said at the end is just wrong. 2d requires a lot more time than 3d, not to say that 3d doesn't take the same skillset. Both have their difficulties but finding competent 2d is a lot harder to find than competent 3d.

I would have to argue the opposite, 2d is often more expensive because you often get a much better animation out of it, 3d would be many times more expensive if it were done by Pixar or something where the quality often far surpasses the 2d one, the thing is that it just takes a shit ton of time to make something incredible with 3d, so really often 3d is the cheap version fro an animation but when done right, it can surpass 2d really easy but it requires a lot more money and time

Long time L omegalul L player here, big fan of the lore since the start. Yasuos backstory was that he trained under elder Souma to learn the wind arts, which was really rare and hard to learn because it was so powerful. And nobody in the kingdom knew it. So one day, Souma was found dead, killed by wind arts and obviously it wasn't suicide. But Yasuo ran and was hunted by his brother and the rest of the village and ionia. Thing is, Yasuo didn't kill his master. So Yone ended up chasing him down and tried to kill him because of honor, but ended up dying. Most of the story was already pre-written, the part with Yone finding him was a LOR addition (where yone looks much better lmao) and I'm pretty sure canonically he only died after Yones champ was announced. Since they haven't exactly met outside of the cardgame bringing them together to talk.

@@Amiko_Ami12 he didn't kill himself. Riven killed him. Rivens blade is enchanted with wind magic which is why her ult can do a wind slash. I don't think a master of wind would kill himself with wind.

People don't realize that the animation style varies with how the story went. The past was drawn in a different way for viewers to differentiate it from the present. It also adds the elements for better capturing such emotions that you can't see on 3D models unless it's as big budget as ALITA. I personally think RIOT did really well here.

You can find a 3D animation studio that is far more expensive than 2D studio and vice versa. The quality and price depends on the studio. 2D is normally harder than 3D but top 3D is much harder than 2D.

I think most league cinematics are better than OW cinematics, this was not one of them but it was still good.
