Absorb yourself in the world of improvising songwriter, xmunashe, considered by many to be one of the most exciting acts to emerge from Sydney’s eclectic music scene.
Following xmunashe’s steady run of intimate performances which have taken place between warehouses, artist studios and public parks, director Will Suen translates his chaotic magnetism to the screen with this hypnotising hybrid analogue-digital rendering.
As the first publicly available documented performance, this episode of Live at Phoenix is a sprawling jam session that captivatingly explores the musical ideas of two forthcoming songs, “Lyon” & "Minimum Wage Dreams". Capably anchoring xmunashe’s raw talent is an ensemble stacked with Phoenix alumni, including Jonti (guitar), long-time friend Josh Kpozhouen (piano and synths) and Ashli (accompanying vocals).

Live at Phoenix is a live performance film series by Phoenix Central Park capturing stellar performances by exceptional artists. Running in parallel to Phoenix Central Park’s agenda-setting weekly free concerts, the series gives as much voice to the creatives behind the camera as it does the performers themselves. Each episode is a unique pairing of musician and filmmaker, resulting in an elevated performance inspired by the sculptural surrounds of The Nest. Live at Phoenix has featured Kelly Lee Owens, Liars, Superorganism, Genesis Owusu, EXEK, Jonti, IJALE, e4444e, Aphir, among many others.
