Happy Holidays Chris❤ Question; are you using a reference photo when you are coloring the birds from? Or is this out of head🤔 Your skills are impeccable, I wish/hope you will make a book, a teaching book of your experience with Prisma pencils, your technique. I have books by other artists, but your the only one I've been able to watch and follow ( for many years) on a live format which in my mind would make your book even more successful and cherished ❤

This is beautiful as always, can I ask, do you use light pressure on this background or just here and there? I just wondered. Thanks!!!

@@ColorvscolourCC Hi Chris. You asked what Amazon paper is. Amazon paper is the worse paper a serious colorist can use. The serious colorist finds it frustrating because for most of them, they usually find that they are unable to get the finer details in an image, let alone being able to get realistic results. Like the feathers on birds, such as you did here or fur. There are different grades/types of it too, some worse than others. It is the paper that the vast majority of coloring books on Amazon has. With most of it, you can not get rid of the tooth of the paper completely or if you do, the paper “pills” or comes off in tiny little balls. 😕 The reason for this is because the vast majority of artists are unable to go to a quality printer to have their books printed. So, they self publish using Amazon’s KDP. I honestly don’t know exactly how it all works, but I do know that Amazon has different locations that do the printing. The location the coloring book is printed at is usually listed on the last page inside the book, which is blank and can be used to test out the medium one uses. Through the years, I have seen at least 4-5 different locations and depending on the location, depends on the ”quality” of the paper is. Some locations it is really bad, other locations it is ”better”, but still not great. It is my understanding that in the last year to year and a half, Amazon did make an option, to provide a better quality paper available. However, the artist has to click that option on before “sending” it to the printers. How much better that paper is, I do not know. What I do know is that Amazon paper is nothing like the paper found in the better quality coloring books that some artists use. Like Hanna Karlzon, Marie Trolle and a few of the others that you have in your collection. Some of the artists and publishers, realizing that the paper isn’t good quality, will give permission for the buyer to print the pages off onto their own choice of paper, for their own personal use. For a lot of people, this doesn’t pose a problem, if they have a printer. The problem is, not everyone (colorists) has a printer, where they can do that and so, while they may like the images in many of the books, they refuse to even try coloring the images when it is on “Amazon paper” and will only buy books that have the better quality paper. Which ultimately limits their choices in what they can color. That is why people will make the request to “not use Amazon paper”. Makes it difficult for everyone involved, a) the artist themselves because as I mentioned, most are unable to use a publisher that uses a good quality of paper and so they self publish with Amazon and b) the colorist who wants to do the best coloring possible, but do not have a printer or have access to one, so they are unable print onto their own paper. This is one of the reasons that many of us have chosen to use PDF/digital images, so we can print on the paper of our own choice. (There are some people who have figured out how to do a really nice job of coloring on the Amazon paper, but as I said, even those who have done so, you will never see finer details like true feathers, fur etc., on their images. The type of realistic coloring that some of us prefer, just isn’t possible on it.) Hope this answers your question sufficiently.
