I disagree with your closing statement, this is a perfect instructional video! Clearly and concisely narrated at a decent volume with all necessary information and guidance, high resolution, well lit and well shot footage and no ridiculous music making it impossible to hear the voiceover - it's perfect, thanks so much for putting up a great quality "how to video" :)

Thanks Mark. It's really good to hear that these videos help people. Just clocked 24,000 now and still in same condition. Just discovered some split O rings on the chain so time for new one. ( 21k on the current chain )

Why didn’t piston make contact with the valve if valve was held open and you moved crankshaft afterwards?

Why this toll doesn't press the second shim holder on the same time?

Hi, yes of course, you can do both inlets or exhausts at the same time. I only focused on the one for the demonstration.

@@CLLUK ok, thanks for that. it was just for a video then? The reason i ask is, i have 2005 xjr 1300 and to my knowledge mine have never been changed. The bike has only done 22000miles do you think they would need a change?

@@TheMadGesticulator Hi Brian, i did this clearance check at the 12k service. The shims themselves seemed to be the correct rated thickness. Of the 8 clearances ( inlets and outlets ) I seem to remember only around half were slightly out of spec range. So, to keep costs down I made a table of individual clearance measurements and shim rated thickness ( as stamped on the shim ) Then I could see what shims I could move to other ports to bring the clearance within spec. Hope that makes sense. I think then I ended only buying 2 or 3 new shims. I think there's someone who did a video on this table as mentioned above.

@@TheMadGesticulator Sorry your question. It depends on the level of tappet noise I guess. Personally at 22k I would go ahead and do it. If anything else, it's an interesting job and what with the haynes WS guide and KZread videos you should be Okay.

Thank you Martino & All. The Tappet Adjustment Tool is: Tappet adjusting tool 90890-04110 Valve adjustment tool YM-33966 I can't recall where I found it. Just checked on eBay and various sources there. It's not cheap though :( . Good Luck Carlos
