XIV - Unboxing the NAPOLETANE (Naples) Italian Regional Card Deck. 14 of 16 Italian Decks.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The deck your Zio Anthony has, you know the one that is so worn-out that you can hardly see the pictures. It's this one, the famous Napoletane deck. Spread around the world, thanks to the last hundred years of the Italian diaspora, the Napoletane deck is possibly the most popular Italian regional deck (though the Piancetine deck may dispute that). Get to know this monstrously popular card deck right here!

Those suit color ideas for the court cards are really cool! Love that detail. Overall really love how this deck sticks to 4 colors (6 if counting black and white) as a theme.

I love this series that you are doing. You mentioned how you rank this deck against some others, once you have done them all, do you plan on doing a summary video where you rank you personal picks? An overview that categorizes the regions and by suit type would fit in nicely in that summary as well.

This is the card deck I have from Italy. The games I learned to play in Italy were Scopa and Briscola.

3:30 The colour blue for the clothing of Italian sportsmen was chosen as a tribute to the colours of the House of Savoy after the unification of Italy in 1861: in fact, the precise name of the colour is Savoy blue or Savoy azure, since it's light.

I disliked the deck at first, I found it ugly, but I got very used to it playing Tressette via internet. Now I like it. It's very legible.

I was psyched for this one, since my family is from Napoli. These are the cards I played with as a child, and they feel small in the hand now that I’m an adult. I remember them seeming larger, though I think that’s a trick of the mind. Do you prefer the Dal Negro, Modiano, or some other brand? I have three Modiano decks, but I was looking to get others.

I'm so glad to hear it, I have many friends and neighbors whose families hail from Napoli and I love visiting that magical bay. The cards are small, but mighty. My preference has been the Dal Negro brand. The two major brands are very similar, but to those of us who care a little too much, there are some differences. The Dal Negro's seem to have more finer details and shading, which makes for a personal preference on whether you want broader/brighter cards or finer/moodier ones. I also feel like there is a different card feel, the Dal Negros feel a bit more glossy, if that makes sense. If you dig a bit deeper, both brands make special versions of their more popular regional decks, the Napoletane is almost always included in those printings and I'll bet they've made some nice premium versions. Thanks for the comment and keep playing!

hey chris! i love this series and wanted to thank you for introducing me to these regional card decks. the videos are so well made and ive enjoyed sharing them with my partner and friends. i wanted to ask: do you happen to know the difference between the various modiano napoletane decks (97/25, 97/31, etc.)? is it just different packaging, different sizes, different materials? it’s weirdly difficult to find more info online so any help is much appreciated!

I’m happy to hear it and thanks for sharing the videos! My best guess for the numbering is that it refers to the trim size and type of card stock. Some of the decks I have, which have differing numbers. usually have different card material, such as thick paper card and plastic. I’ll let you know if I come by additional info. Thanks for watching!

I do have to ask, how come you have these deck videos numbered, but aren't releasing them in numerical order? Not criticizing, just confused

Great question. The cards have a numbering 1-16 on many “official” sites and I am honoring that numbering. However they take different times for me to edit, due to when I received the cards, difficulty of the edit and other delays. If you check out the playlist dedicated to Italian Regional decks on here, you’ll see that I’m reordering them numerical. Thanks!

@@Play-In-Games interesting, I figured it had to do something with editing speed, but I had no idea the numbers were more "official" as to it being at your discretion

Do you like soccer? Cuz the next World Cup in 2026 will have more countries competing than in the last Cup, and Italy hasn't competed in a World Cup in a while, so maybe it will have another chance to shine.
