I received an email notification that Xiegu is working on a new radio and they have now given it a model number. We've known this was coming for a while, thanks to a video from ‪@temporarilyoffline‬ - but now we have a model number and a little more info. Take a look at the video and also check these links:

    It is laughable that there are already seven 5.0 reviews for the radio on radioddity and we don't know what it looks like and it's not even released lol

    I'm your odd bird that neither likes nor dislikes these radios. New (again) this year, to Ham Radio, and primary focus is Emcom, so this doesn't fit my plans. I look forward to POTA, as practice for Emcom setup etc. but current focus is 100 watts, and trying various antennas. Maybe when I get the priorities taken care of, I'll try one of these, but that's probably a couple years down the road at the earliest. Additionally, I used your link to Ham Radio Prep a couple days ago. Very happy with the progress being made. I find it easier to stay focused and train, rather than reading the books as I have been doing. It's also a confidence booster. Thanks!

    With WFM, this would be my perfect travel radio. Take it in the car, in a backpack or on the airplane and if its 20 Watts, it will work perfectly with my Comet Toybox antenna

    I did a video on this a few weeks ago when i spotted it over at Moonraker but there was no model number at the time, although they did list a price at £949 so it sounds like it will run along side the x6100 as maybe a higher end unit…

    I might be interested if it's a G90 with a sound card. 20 watts internal tuner and internal sound card. Sounds good to me. Steve, k7ofg.

    I hope they go at least up to 20W. That would be killer. Love my 6100. Will probably buy this one as well. And will purchase the amplifier too here soon. Will probably not need anything else after this for a long time but this is Ham Radio. That is probably a lie. We all buy radios all the time. Damn this hobby is expensive.

    In my opinion Xiegu would be better off releasing a budget minded 100 watt radio or a revamped version of the G-90. I own an X6100 and I would consider upgrading, if this radio has computerless FT8, additional power output, audio over blutooth. If the radio does none of that I'll stick with my X6100 until it takes a dump

    Interesting, but more interesting would be to know whether Xiegu has a next-gen G90 upgrade in the works. Something with a bit more oomph (50 watts?), 6 meters, and maybe a sound card.

    I'll buy another Xiegu when they put out a 50-100 watt all-band/all-mode radio with all the great features of their radios combined. They just never hit the mark for me. The G90 isn't bad but by the time you buy the amp and the GSOC (fail) you should have just bought a FT-991A.

  • 7 ай бұрын

    The portable G90 isn't supposed to compete with the FT-991A, which is a compact base station.

  • @norrinradd8952

    @norrinradd8952

    7 ай бұрын

     @LukaSlovic First of all, the FT-991A is absolutely intended for portable use. From Yaesu's website: "FT-991A ALL-BAND, MULTIMODE PORTABLE TRANSCEIVER" "Compact, Lightweight & Portable" "The FT-991 Comes in a compact, lightweight package suitable for portable, mobile and base installations. Measuring 8.8"(W) x 3" (H) x 9.9" (L) at just 9.7 pounds this robust full featured mobile/portable radio is ready to go when and where you are!" Second, I wasn't comparing the radios, nor did I claim the G90 somehow competes with the FT-991A, those were your words. I was pointing out that by the time you buy all the accessories intended to address the shortcoming of the G90, you might as well have bought the FT-991A because it is CHEAPER: G90: 445.00 GSOC: 420.00 XPA125B: 600.00 TOTAL: 1465.00 FT991A: 1300.00 Finally, not only do you pay more for Xiegu, you still don't get 6m/2m/70cm and C4FM. Also, the G90/GSOC/AMP combo weighs about the same as the FT-991A. The Yaesu seems like an obvious choice for a portable HF rig over the G90/GSOC/AMP. Again, not that I was comparing them originally, because I wasn't, but to make the case for portability. I stand by my original comment. FT-991A > G90/GSOC/XPA125B.

    I much rather they fix the bugs in the x6100 and maybe release some hardware that makes it all-band. It had a lot of potential that they squandered. It looks like they'll be making the same mistakes here too (especially not making it all-band like the IC-705.) The custom firmware did a great job of making it much more useful. At this rate, I might as well regulate it to a full time JS8Call station while waiting for my QDX and save up for an IC-705.

    I don't particularly care all that much unless they fix the frontend overloading issue or they sell it for an amazing price. I forgive the G90 because it's such a great price, but the x6100 not so much. I have very little hope that they will fix it since literally every radio they have made has this issue and I'm 99% certain they know about it.

    It's a bit of a bummer that the page is already review bombed, it becomes hard to trust manufacturer and distributor sites when that happens and I don't know how good a radio actually is until I get to see others review it on youtube. I avoided an x6100 because of birdies in reviews (not sure if that was ever fixed) and if this is the same, I'll stick with my G90.
