Xiaomi M365 electric scooter review: Is it TOO cheap?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The best selling scooter in the world right now - the Xiaomi m365 - is also one of the cheapest on the market. But are they actually safe?
Eilis swapped in her bike for the week and put the PEV firm favourite under some serious testing.

Bought 2 (black and white) almost 4years ago now, in Q2 2017. Price was 417pounds /piece and that was considered quite cheap, prices went above 440pounds for a looong time after that. The M365 has been surclassed for sure but is till very good compared to similar priced products. You can have much much better now, but its more in the 900-1000pounds range.

m365 is like a corolla of Escooters. m365s can be modified with higher voltage and capacity, what can increase top speed and acceleation. As well, i seen 2wd modifications, as well brake upgrades. Standard m365 brakes are not too much. Thanks god, where is a bolt on upgrades are avalable. As well tons of sofware upgaeds are avalable and you can tune it as much as you want. I did modifiy two m365s for a last mile delivery. Triple battery capacity, over 70 miles per charge with pretty good accelearation. They love them.

I think you need to adjust the stem, shouldn’t be wobbling like that, everything you mentioned can be countered with a mod, faster speeds with a flash, suspension and bigger tyres can all be added. I been using one for 6 months I ride in the rain no problem, but maybe my one is well sealed. ( you can also waterproof it to an extent) still prefer it to a TFL bus which gets stuck in traffic and carries on going past the bus stops due to Covid passenger limits or being a replacement school bus.

Try your hand at an Electric Unicycle. It's even more compact (fits under a chair than a desk), faster, longer range (30-100miles is possible) , and 12" tires so better "suspension". I moved to one after e-scooters for a while. Bit of a learning curve but worth it

Okay...where do i start... i have owned one since 2017...used it for the short commute to work..i was lucky...my work place had a shed that was used to store old office furniture...it had lighting and power points so i was able to lock my scooter in the shed plus top up the battery so i always had power. The battery does need protection from water ingress so i used my initiative.. made a waterproof jacket to fit around the footboard...what i will say is the scooter is forgiving...very controllable...gives you confidence..also the mods...where do i start !!!... i reccomend the M365 all day and night !!👍👍👍

3:10 you know you can slow down on the electric scooters. You don't need to drive at 15mph on the pavement and you can use your brakes which might actually do you more good if your regenerating electricity. I've seen wheelchairs whizzing passed me in lockdown (like 5 of them group of old people just taking up the whole pavement like they was having a race was unusual). These are perfectly fine on the pavement if your going slow and careful and just respecting others. You also have a bell to ding and i've seen many videos of people doing long riding sessions using the bell and people actually moving out the way. Theres no real harm being done with it just dont full speed past people is all.

  • @nilsfrahm1323

    @nilsfrahm1323

    2 жыл бұрын

Yup, seems natural to slow down when passing next to people on pavement, this will make them feel safer and also decrease chances of accidents, in case they do a sudden move or put out their arms. They also won't feel threatened by you passing along at only 5mph (instead of 15). Once you passed them, you can gradually increase your speed. And thinking about average speed of buses in the city, if you account for red lights, bus stops, changing lanes, I think 15mps scooter is close to average speed of the bus, you may even take shortcut routes and arrive faster at the destination.(at least in my city)

Ninebot Max has IPX5 certification. And actually, this one _is_ water resistant, it's basically rated at IPX4. But I'd go an extra mile and use liquid silicone to seal off the deck, as well as put some foam in the metal tube coming from the deck. I did that and it really helped out, and I drove it everywhere in all kinds of showers. You shouldn't drive through big puddles on the street without that mod. And I'm from Moscow, Russia btw, the scooters are taking over Russia at the moment and there is no slowing down or restricting that.

The m365 is so much better if you hack the firmware. I have the pro amongst other scooters in my collection, and since hacking the firmware it's a much better scooter worth riding, you still obviously have the same problems with the suspension but with suspension comes more weight. But the hack really makes the scooter perform like it was made to perform, one kick the scooter goes, free wheel 20 mph, on the road around 18 mph, a much stronger pull and quicker up to speed. It's not about how fast the scooter goes it's about how well the scooter responds once you hack it. A must have for anyone who rides an M365 or pro other wise don't waste time on this scooter it will frustrate the hell out of you, especially going up hill, crawls along.

I second that although they're not totally waterproof - I repaired one last year where the owner had ridden it through too many puddles and caused all the wires in the base to corrode totally killing it (fortunately it was just the wiring, all the batteries and electronics were okay.) Edit: Oh hang on, I missed your warning about puddles - well there you go... :)

For entry level, 'test the water' to see if scootering is for you then spending £300 is just about affordable, if you love it then invest again in a more expensive one. If it's not for you sell it and you've not lost too much finding out.

Xiaomi and Segway is for bike lane and sidewalk faster than walking and pedaling a bike, if I want a faster scooter above 15 mph it’s not going to be a electric scooter! Electric bike is safer for above 15mph speed.

I don’t get it, I thought these things were illegal? Not that I think they should be, it’s just that I see them everywhere in my city yet I’ve heard about people getting fines and points on their license. The police have been doing a great job of making themselves an enemy of all people recently.

They want people to stop driving old vehicles who can’t afford new ones so they need to make scooters legal in places like London can’t see why they haven’t when they have there own ones on street to use . Fair enough over a certain speed is dangerous but the ones like this at 15.5 mph is fine imo

She says its not waterproof, that she had to fold it up and go on the tube....does she mean she isn't waterproof instead of the scooter?. I have rode mine in all weathers, in the worst of rain storms and still going strong. She lies when she says its not waterproof lol.

Nothing is truly 'waterproof' but this does have an IP54 rating which is good enough for light rain, but not torrential. There's actually very few scooters that exceed IPX4 anyway.

Please do not ride electric scooters in and out of city traffic like that. You will not fair well against a car or even a motor bike WHEN it hits you. Drivers don't pay enough attention for motor bikes or pedal bikes so scooters have no chance.

Ok for the price they are good, but you can take a step up to the pro or the pro 2 but the problem is still that they are way too slow. The one thing you can also do with these is hack the firmware, once you do that they are actually much better to ride. Why Xiaomi don't put a simple speed or power adjuster in their software defies logic. I have the pro and I hacked the software with the help of a youtube video and it rides much better, but with more speed even though not a lot only around 3 or 4 mph comes with the problem of less range. The pro supposedly has good range though I find the range very poor, but good enough for my shopping and doing stuff local, also the kicking off with the hacked firmware is much easier..

The reason is so they can sell them as fully road legal. Forgetting UK, most countries in the world limit them to between 12.5 - 15.5mph

@@PkKingX11 And that is why their accident rate is going up simply because they are way too slow at those speeds so get into trouble with other vehicles. The right speed for these scooters is without a doubt 20mph, at that speed they can stay at a safe speed with other traffic. If you notice the slow bicycles are always getting in trouble.
