    I have the 14 Ultra, I use pro mode and shoot raw, it works great. I also have different presets in the pro mode so I can get the result I want. I usually use a Nikon full frame for work, it is of course better, but as long as the light is good, the 14 Ultra holds up very well. I can for sure publish the pics from the 14 Ultra in a glossy magazine. When I publish online the pictures are so compressed that the difference is not even noticeable. The key is to use the RAW or Ultra Raw, then You can work with the pictures in post. Worth mentioning is that even though the sensors are 50 mp, when using the standard foto settings You get 12 mp pictures. You have to actively choose 50 mp to get the full resolution.

    I'm on day 4 of a trip in which I brought both my 14 ultra and a7C, and while I've carried my a7C just about everywhere (in my backpack), I've only felt the need to pull it out a couple times... one because I wanted better natural bokeh, another because because I needed better dynamic range (difficult backlit, low-light shot). This is the first phone I've owned that I feel gives me good enough photos for personal use, most of the time. To the point that I've made a couple trips since I got this phone and my APSC camera has stayed home each time. Again, not quite the same level, but not far off in most cases.

    Great video as always... The one thing I have in my mind every time we go out for a walk or just go into a new town is the best camera is the one you have with you... Yes its never going to be as good as a DSLR but then you don't have the bulk to carry when you have a dog with you and a wife that wants to get her 10 mile walk done and doesn't want to stop to swap lenses or wait while you spend time framing shots.. Life limitations can take over when you have others with you that want keep walking or not just stand around waiting.. But then when you do have time alone and you are not being rushed those moments are like little moments that are special and you find you only have a phone with you because 99.9%% of the time you don't get those moments.. Its do you buy a DSLR for those rare moments? If you are serious, YES YOU DO.... But then there is another little voice that points out 99.9% of your photos only ever get seen on social media or shared with those who were with you at the time and just sit on a hard drive never to be seen again until you go out of your way to look for them.. The images for me that get seen and shared the most are work images and some of those have been shared10 times or 100 times and seen by thousands of people, on social media. The phone does 100% of that heavy lifting with work images.. Which is why for me personally I want the best phone I can have to make the most of that compromise. Xiaomi seem to be the one manufacturer that helps make that compromise worth it...

    Oh wow, ok had to take a proper moment behind my pc to comment on this one! First of thank you for the in depth comment! Love reading it because it shows you care!!! And you are correct! The best one is the one you have with you, and of course you want that one to be solid, create that right feel in the shot! I think Xiaomi is close, but with the 14 Ultra it realisticly needs work... There are moments it seriously sharpens too much and it hurts the image. But if it nails it it nails it really well! Getting that feel proper! And of course often shots just happen, moments that will never be the same seconds later like a specific angle of a sunset with clouds just the way you like it and so on! And of course most of the time you wouldn't carry a proper camera with you, so you would want that phone to deliver, and it will. If you however go out for a photograhy run, and you compare the 2 the phone get's humbled pretty fast. Portraits for instance will be miles better, as well as details! And of course there is far less artificial processing so that helps! Xiaomi does the feel right, BUT it needs work and some of the issues that I have might have already been fixed with the updates, but I wouldn't know because in the global version... we are at 1.06 where with the chinese version I think they are on 1.15... and a lot of big updates including for the camera.

    @@ThroughJermainesLens I think the Mi 11 Ultra set the bar so high in so many respects that its going to hard for Xiaomi to better it in any significant way. Adding more can be too much or just be adding for the sake of being different. Just doing the basics well and evolving the breed is the way to go when you set a high bar that is hard to improve on. Pushing the mobile camera sensor to do what a DSLR does best is not going to be possible but to look at what the phone does best and improve on that is the way to go.. Reliable, consistent and convenient is what we need from a phone camera, what we want is the next level along and better sensors, lenses, variable aperture need to work along side those first criteria. The added processing and filters as well as colour science can only really work when those other things have been taken care of. Working down those lists of priorities in order should keep the camera side on an even keel. But developers seem to feel their input is more important than everyone else's and it starts to add problems. With a phone like this the manufacturer knows that this is either a second camera or is for an enthusiast that will end up with a second camera at some point. It is not a replacement and can never be one for someone who really cares about their photography. It is more than a point and shoot family and pets camera, its good enough to be creative when we have limitations in our lives or we just see something and really want to get that photo. Its the best camera in that moment when it is all we have. Xiaomi need to think about that more than pretending it is a pro camera inside a phone. Improve the basics and work on what it can do not what they want to pretend it can be...

    I have to do reports of buildings and its interiors, so images have to be low resolution but quite clear. The times I had not my cellphone I had to use my proper cameras, but doing focus stacking to get a natural HDR of different exposures was too cumbersome, specially when the sensor is big and to get more in focus a tripod is needed. With this I mean that at least for my work a proper camera (both with big and small sensor) is a disadvantage. Is amazing how technology evolves. For personal photos I still prefer a big sensor and optically corrected lenses, but sadly those are too big so in the end I still use my cellphone.

    Thanks for the comparison, i was really in between should i get 1500eur camera and then add many lenses or phone. When this question has rised for me it was quite clear: get a phone as i`m still undecided and i know how to use the pro mode on the phones. Therefore you can say im a passioante amateur i guess? But glad i got the the Xiaomi 14 Ultra i think its close enough and sufficient for me. A camera can get very expensive given the lenses and then if you want to stay at 1500eur with camera + lenses + eneloop batteries + flashes... i think its quite hard to achieve the balance between picture quality versatility and portability that the phone has. at a higher price (say 3500eur or more with camera and all accessories) point i think its clear that a camera makes full sense. What i mean is that for 1500eur camera lenses bag batteries flashes filters its hard to achieve something that overwhelms the phone. Feel free to correct me! Hey im still waiting for that comparison X100 Ultra vs 14 Ultra with the color modes (Authentic and Vibrant vs whatever Vivo has). The Vivo 100 Ultra for me seems quite interesting but somehow the colors are too bright and the sharpening looks harsher but i think its still unfinished as the X100 Pro gives the X100 Ultra big headaches. Anyhow on Xiaomi part its a shame that they are inconsistent in the auto mode when using the pro mode its great i really wait for the EU update that should merge the 2 Camera updates from June from the Chinese one. I have always wanted a smartphone cam to look the closest to a real DSLR. I use GCAM mods on my Mi11U, with a well tweaked xml it is much closer to a real cam, far better than the built in stock in most scenarios. If you happen to have the Pixel8Pro with you, please compare that to the professional cam. I think the pixel's processing is relatively the best among phones for photos (not sure if stock pixel cam is as good as the gcam-mods made by enthusiasts) You could even try using the 50mp mode in the p8p, which might even bridge most of the gap in the level of details captured.

    I imported the Ceramic Blue Xiaomi 14 Ultra and I must say im very impressed by the camera! There is only one big issue with this phone, it gets warm pretty quickly especially when using mobile data..I hope Xiaomi fix this!

    Battery life on the xiaomi 14 ultra ain't great, it overheats pretty easy when it's a bit warmer outside. No fogging issues yet. Also the 1.06 update was pulled for the EEA global version.

    Coming from an S22 Ultra, the battery on my Chinese version 14U is a significant upgrade. I am however on firmware 1.15, so maybe it's been tweaked over the past updates (it was on version 1.07 when I got it in May and was solid then).

    The Lumix is the clear winner, even though I like some pictures more on the Xiaomi indeed. Sometimes the pictures of the Lumix appear too dark to me. But if you do not have the comparison, pictures shot on the Xiaomi will be well, good enough or sometimes even more than that. Anyway, the question that I have is: If you normally Use the Lumix for filming, what camera did you use recording this particular video?

  • @ThroughJermainesLens

    @ThroughJermainesLens

    VERRYYY true!!! And yes often I use that Panasonic for a-roll ^^ for the shots showing how both capture shots, mostly I used the Vivo X100 Ultra for shooting the Xiaomi, for the Lumix POV shots I used mostly the Nubia Z60 Ultra (so it's easier for me to seperate for editing later on hahaha) And yeah it's fair, not everyone loves that darker look that i do :D That is why I didn't want to go in too much depth for this, because then I would to fully need to use different lenses I feel like on the Lumix, and of course all RAW on the Xiaomi, and so on, which I could do, but lenses are exspensive hahaha

    This is bogus. You don't know how to use your camera. Half the settings are flashing red to tell you that you screwed up. You are shooting unnecessarily at F11-18 and diffraction will have set in. Your camera is telling you that you are underexposed and a lot of the photos look like it. You have your own custom white balance dialed in which makes the colors off. And for some reason you are in portrait. Oh yes and the way you hold the camera you are not very steady. You are better off shooting auto and letting the camera decide with a comparison like this unless you are actually making positive changes to the settings.

    you made a great comparison 🫶👍that confirms to me that the Xiaomi is worthy of being able to take great pictures in harmony and cooperation with a professional camera...of course it can't keep up in many areas but the advantage of having a lot of lenses in one phone and thus always being ready for the perfect moment means you get very close to the perfect picture of the day and that's what makes this photo phone so valuable for the photographer......In my opinion, the best camera is the one you always have with you....LG...Ralf

    THIS!!! this is kinda the story I wanted to create out of it, I didn't want to make it about well phone suuucccks or anything like that! It is just more about showing the limits of phones, But of course as always, the camera doesn't make the photographer, but it can help hahahahah. And thank you!
