Touhou’s online popularity is such an interesting phenomenon to me. It feels like almost everyone has already been exposed in the past to something related to it, but most of them have no idea where it comes from. It’s similar to how everyone knows Vader says he’s Luke’s father despite not all of them watching the movie. But in this case it’s like they don’t even know the movie exists, they just heard the line somewhere outside. Touhou became part of internet culture and has been watching us from far away for over a decade. Actually playing the games now explains where many of my childhood memories come from. This is fascinating.

Its wild how much touhou you find in your past once you recognize it. Its the same with vocaloid stuff too. I realized saw the ochame kinou video on the wii youtube app as a kid when i came across it again a few years ago.

The human brain is such a wonderful thing. It's been 7-10 years since I last heard this song, I'm in my house doing my thing. And I randomly start singing this song (well the "get down" part at least). Nothing triggered me singing it, no other song, no person, anime etc.

It's not weird that you would feel that way. Touhou aesthetic have inspired ALL softheart anime of early 2000s, which in turn evolve to become an animation style used widely in 2010s. It also DIRECTLY influenced the creation of Vocaloid, as it was originally designed to sing Touhou song exclusively.

That's the beauty of touhou. It's the story of an eastern land with so many different interpretations that you can't ever really see the truth. There's one canon, but there's so much fanon built on top of that, and then there's more fanon that is it's own canon. ZUN gives us snippets of the characters personalities, but it's never the full story. There's only one Nitori, yet she's different across all of the clips in this video. Who can say who the real one is?

Its been about 7-8 years since i first herd this song. For the longest time, i could only remember the shots of the moon and had a blurry image of the thumbnail. And then i stumbled here by chance. Also already a touhou fan. Dam time flies. One moment you're a kid in a car late at night listening to some bopping tunes and then the next, you're an adult laying in bed listening to the same music. Tldr, i got nostalgic about finally refinding this song after 7-8 years.

Man, this song's still my happy place. I can still vividly remember the most relaxing part of my life, sitting at home alone, two weeks off of work, playing an overly-edgy Pokemon fan game curled up on my couch with my laptop with this blaring on repeat... It was such a simple and cozy time. Whenever the stress of my current day-to-day life starts to get to me I love to just close my eyes, listen to this song and remember how nice it felt to have no worries like that.

I guess I should thank a certain half elf and a priestess for helping me discover this meme.

Touhou fans truly are an ancient race of primordial beings. Every internet fad we have today can be traced back to them one way or another.
