Xi Jinping didn’t wish Modi. Chinese people say he isn’t invincible, chatter about Rahul

"Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term has become a reality, albeit with a coalition government. However, this is unlikely to cause significant changes in India’s foreign policy. S Jaishankar has retained his position as External Affairs Minister, signalling continuity, particularly in India’s relations with China" writes Sana Hashmi in her column.

We should refrain from making baseless accusations and arguments. Neither China has "encroached any area in Ladakh" wrt to Galwan clash of 2020 nor did "China want Rahul Gandhi to win". In geopolitics adversaries and friends alike keep an eye on elections of important countries and the possibility of change of guards therein because that is going to influence their own foreign policy. Adversaries look for an improvement in relation while friends watch out for any deterioration in relation. Besides, there is something called as optics in geopolitics. XI not congratulating modi or Modi not inviting Pakistan is optics meant to send a message to other party that relations are not normal. SO, its futile to delve into fancy stories and conspiracy theories

Well, India-China relations are not just due to Modi (whether 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0). They are also due to China. So, unless China changes/modifies/revises it stance(s) majorly, one shouldn't expect much change in India's stance(s) either...! What an idiotic video on a non-issue!

The fact is India and China are neighbours and will remain so forever. I feel it's essential to have a common ground between the two countries for mutual good. It's unwise to be a tool in the Western hands as a counter to China. The Western powers have their interests to protect and we can be quite expendable once those interests are met, as the case of Pakistan indicates. One must acknowledge how far ahead the Chinese have gone in the past few decades. Co-operation rather than confrontation will be the optimal decision for the two Asian giants.

India is not depending on the west for countering China. S. Jaishankar said it himself when asked about the same regd not supporting the west on Ukraine issue. They are surely helpful, but not to the extent that India can't do anything without them. Should we let China bulldoze us around to avoid confrontation? Its China that is starting the problem. So better preach them.

India should be guided by self interest rather than some easy or west power camp. The current policy is absolutely right . One cannot suck up to a hegemonic neighbour no matter how big it may be. Your views are archaic, misguided and foolhardy. Largely inspired by the Nehruvian era .... someone who handed over the UNSC seat to China

@@FloraFauna321 Buddy from the bitterness in your words and sticking to legacy issues, ask yourself who is archaic, foolhardy and misguided. Indian and Chinese economy used to be at par till a few decades back, long after the era of Neharuvian socialism. Chinese were quick to profit from shift in policies and reaping fruits of their demographic dividend. It was careful not to get distracted by antagonizing their neighbours. India with its base of youth (with more than two thirds of Indians under 35) can do much more if we get our priorities right. Confrontation with your neighbours isn't the smart way when it comes to growing your economy and collective well being of Indians. But if you wanna fall victim to pro-nationalism and "archaic" ideologies, that gonna result in a lost decade for India.

@@navinasimoes What you described is how cpc behaved after mao. Shi jinping changed all that with his unilateral hold of the party like never before. Even mao didn't have such power and impulsive nature. In the past week alone, they jailed former Defence Minister and foreign minister who worked under shi for corruption. And these are not one off cases. Shi made cpc totally unpredictable which is one of the reasons why the economic downturn is gaining pace there. Show me any other cpc chairman who held more than two terms other than mao in such an unruly manner? Also under shi, politburo is as weak as it was under mao. This has everything to do with shi and nothing else.

It is very much a welcome gesture from Xi for saving the Democratic Tradition of India. Why should he congratulate an Undemocratic Government. China has helped in 1962 for saving the democracy of India by slacking the iron-like grip of Nehru to hold on to the post of PM for life. A mild jerk was very much necessary in 1962 to destroy the DemiGod like halo of Nehru. Hopefully, China will come to rescue our democracy if any urgency arises in future.
