    I so want to switch to a projector, traditional or UST, but there still is no viable complete TV replacement out there. It's like they can only do 70% of what a TV can (from a PQ/gaming/UX standpoint) while costing the same or more than the equivalent panel. Picture size stopped being the only thing I cared about once I was exposed to the nuances capable by a panel and good processing. One day...

    All current UST projectors on the market (except the one by epson) are single-DLP, which can only use sequential color, and therefore produce devastating amounts of RGB flash artifact (more commonly referred to as rainbow effect or RBE) to those sensitive to it. TVs have issues but RBE is mercifully not one of them.

  • @TriMuXx

    @TriMuXx

    2 жыл бұрын

    Wrong, the TriChroma laser USTs all eliminate RBE. Epson, HiSense, and VaVa are the ones I can think of at the moment that all have TriChroma which is 3 lasers, one red, one green, one blue, that work together to create colors. The Colorwheel is no longer needed in those USTs since they create the spectrum.

    this is clearly the future of home cinema projectors. All bulbs will be replaced with laser lamps. I think many companies are working on this technology, the only limit is represented by the DLP chips. Texas Instruments should design full 4K/8K mirror matrices for the next generation lasers. There is a lot of work to do also on laser lamp spectrums. I can imagine this projector with native 8K, 120Hz and RGB or more lasers with certain spectrums to go beyond the color standards.

  • @noe3024

    @noe3024

    2 жыл бұрын

    DLP is a monopoly, and the best move the company that makes it can do is lower its price so that domestic projector manufacturers do not have to take the single-DLP shortcut. Single-DLP, like this vava, can only use sequential color, and sequential color produces copious amounts of the nasty artifact RGB flashes (more commonly referred to as the rainbow effect, or RBE). Lasers and 4k/8k are good, but making 3-DLP mainstream out of cinemas even better.

    I've had mine now for a month or so and am chuffed to bits with it. Mainly. My one issue is that it seemed everything I watched was shot in 30fps, even films. I find it very distracting but put it down the the increased resolution having never had a 4K TV. But, I've just watched Alex Rider on Prime and it looks normal again, like it should. Am I missing a setting somewhere? I've tried all the profiles but nothing seems to make a difference. I mean, it's great for sports, just for movies it's just too, well, real.

Changing to a single huge screen is possible, but then I loose the play together fun of todays setup. A good comprimice would be if the projector had two HDMI in and could show to feeds at once. This way I could watch movies on the big screen, and play like today. Anyone know of such a projector.

    @@notmyname4261 cheers for the input but nothing in your comment is correct. First, this is a UST projector - short throw and long throw are typically best ceiling mounted or will at least very likely come with the option. Secondly, while typically designed to sit below a screen often USTs come with both the "screen flip" option and mounting holes for being ceiling mounted - both of which I've subsequently confirmed the Aura does come with. Often people also point out the problem with running an ALR screen with a UST on the ceiling, but apart from the obvious solution of mounting it inverted (and using lower level lighting (like lamps) I've got a dedicated room where I've got complete light control and no need for an ALR screen anyway. So, to answer own question for anyone else: yes - the XGIMI Aura does support being ceiling mounted as well rear protection.

    @@RoyMudie I didn't say you couldn't Roy, just that they're designed to sit under your screen for ease of use and space saving. Calibration from your ceiling will be a nightmare. If you want it ceiling mounted it would be a lot cheaper to buy a dedicated ceiling projector.

  • @RoyMudie

    @RoyMudie

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@notmyname4261 *sigh* while I know arguing on the internet is akin to gouging my own eyes out let me point out a couple of things... - Regardless of your intent, in isolation, your comment gives the impression it's not possible. - I'm not going to argue that USTs are typically "under the screen" devices, thats how they're always shown, but the fact that manufacturers support ceiling mounted options means they are literally "designed" with ceiling mounting in mind. However, some do, some don't, it's why I asked the question and it's why your comment was unhelpful for everyone. - USTs are only space saving in the context of a table mounted ST or LT projector. Any ceiling mounted projector (LT, ST or UST) is literally going to take up "less space" than a UST on a bench. I plan on "saving space" by ceiling mounting any projector I buy, regardless of throw distance. - Calibration is always a pain when you've got crazy OCD over screen alignment like I do. But that's why I plan on using my geared precision mount and custom screen made to fit the projection rather than vice versa. Even if it takes 24 hours that pales in comparison to the time I'm spending physically building the walls for the room. - I'm not sure how I save money by buying the Epson EH-TW9400 I was looking at before this... If anything the XGIMI Aura WAS my cheaper option. I've got a budget for a projector that I'll likely spend. This fits in that budget, and would get me a bigger screen size. So thanks again, but you're trying to answer questions I didn't ask.
