Every cat I ever owned were named after Nintendo characters! Kirby, Zelda, Peach, Bowser and we were taking care of kittens for a cat refuge and we named them all after the Koopalings and we kept Wendy in the end! 😁

one of my best Nintendo memories ever was waiting in line for the Wii overnight outside Bestbuy playing Mariokart DS with everyone else in line who had a DS. It was particularly special because, it was the point I got back into videogames after falling off them for several years. It was my first experience as an adult getting drunk and playing videogames with other nerds haha!

Love the panel! Great job everyone! Hopefully this game gets a small amount of coverage next week as well. Curious to hear Peer and Seth's thoughts and impressions.

Industry Legend John?!?!? That’s awesome.

Actually a really great episode. I was turned off by some of the excessive anime-ness of xb2, but this makes a great case for picking up 3. Also, I loved the in-depth, realistic discussion on Switch graphics, especially in the context of the business. Most discussions I hear tend to end at “the Switch graphics aren’t good enough” or “the Switch graphics do just fine for me” so it’s nice to hear a nuanced, technical take.

John from Digital Foundry!?!? NIIICCEEE catch here, guys! EVERYONE should checkout the Digital Foundry KZread Channel - their main focus is reviewing games from a TECHNICAL standpoint, and they really highlight the hard work and ingenuity of many developers!

Definitely yes a true top tier Nintendo franchise, and top tier JRPG franchise, beating out what have been released elsewhere in the last decades. IGN review unfortunately, shows how much brand and popularity plays a role in certain portal reviews taking out points because boss designs were too same-y and because of cutscenes mid fight, really, but when Zelda BOTW did considerably worst with its bosses including the final one that gets a pass? same for quests, so Xenoblade having simple quests in between high production hero quests can be penalizd but when Zelda had even more simplistic quests in between the quests pool (and the great ones are not really a match for the XC3 heroes quests), it gets a pass, really? when the dub and dialogue in Zelda BOTW few cutscenes felt a bit contrived it gets a pass, but in Xenoblade they will hunt for any silly detail there to complain and take points off, really? When Xenoblade 3 pushes the switch hardware to the limit and only dont do more because it is not possible it is still penalized for having some simple textures here and there and not being 4k, but when Zelda BOTW uses even simper textures, and geometry, and heck, when Pokemon legends arceus looks extremely subpar to what they switch can do, it can go without many scratches? Oh, and when Elden ring chooses to focus on hardcore actions players and not give easy mode and have high difficult is fine, but when Xenoblade focus more on hardcore rpg players by giving a complex, multi-layered battle system with many mechanics to master and learn and optimised that is a problem? (even though the game actually provides proper explanation and gives easy mode that can be aceesed at any point, and even auto battle). absolute BS

I dont think a part of the criticism should be “I wish it was in better hardware”. It is what it is and, as digital foundry did, build the critic around the hardware it’s on, not the one you would like it to be.

John and Nadia, whaaat?

I always think the big issue with Xenoblade X character design was that they were really made to fit the specific story they wanted to tell. A very intentional design, but it takes a few chapters to truly understand where they were going with it. In an odd way, I love the Xenoblade character design but not necessarily from first glance, but by what they meant to the story itself. So I can't agree that the character design in X didn't fit, because it fit the narrative like a glove. X is one of my favorites in the entire series. And it got me with the Science Fiction Story. The plot twists of X is among some of the most profound I've ever encountered in Science Fiction and it's one of my all time loves.

@@Kabullo76 that was the comparison they used on the podcast. They said that if xenoblade was the mario series then xenoblade 1,2,3 would be normal mario games whereas X would be Mario Kart because of how different it was to the mainline games.

I'd love to see Spider-Man, Kingdom Hearts, and Tales of Arise on Nintendo Switch.

What an amazing cast!! I just want to point out I'm glad you guys worrying over Digimon Survive was wrong. I'm a huge fan of VN and Srpg like 13 Sentinels (which is one of the best BTW). The game is so far really good and as dark as everyone has mentioned.

As kind of mentioned, Nintendo would be smart to iterate and improve the Switch for their next console. BUT I hope they return to a dual screen console sometime in the future so those games that worked best with two screens can be updated and rereleased as they were originally made.

How was 2 a step back? Xeno games from Monolith has always been first and foremost about storytelling and lore. It has never been about visual fidelity, gameplay or character models. Why do you think Xenosaga is still an A+ series and why it’s one of the most beloved JRPGS of all time? Its story is incredible- that is why. The characters and story played their parts to a tee in bringing everything full circle from XBC1. Lore and story wise, it literally perfected in its job.

IGN review "dialogue can be ackward", but gives 10/10 to Zelda BOTW, whose cutscene dialogues are considerably worst.

IGN review "there are still some fetch quests", but gives 10/10 to Zelda BOTW where the majority of quests are like that and even the best ones are no match for Xenoblade 3 heroes quests.

They should put Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 on other systems.

IGN review "bosses are too similar", but gives a 10/10 to Zelda BOTW who does the same sin even worst, with its incredibly low enemy variety.

Capcom has always made the best game engines. Even their previous engine, MT Framework was really flexible and powerful and way better than its contemporary the Unreal 3. RE engine blows Unreal 4 out of the water and further improvements to it can easily make it stand toe to toe with Unreal 5.

Every review people say they increased party size... Did they really? There are 6(7) in 3, in 2 there are 3 characters + 3 blades. Atleast when i do the math i get 6 as a result, so they did increase the party size... by one (two if using the nopon i guess) I dont think that impacts performance in any noticable way.

In XC3 there are 7 active party members on the field, while in XC2 there can only be 3 on the field at anytime (Blades are more like classes/equipment rather than party members).

RE: Switch power. The truth is the Switch is just fine for Nintendo games at the moment, but is perhaps lacking for 3rd parties. The PS5 and XBX have all the power for the last gen 3rd party games, but has delayed a lot of true next gen games by 2 years because all that potential has made those developers art departments work harder to make the stuff look cutting edge.

The irony is that it is the sales charts that prove that Nintendo does not need third parties for the success of its console, the only exception is Monster Hunter which is very popular in Japan, the remaining 90% of third party productions are aimed at the western audience of playstation / xbox / pc and these productions do not interest 99% of the audience that Nintendo is targeting (excluding the NVC panel of course😂). Then as you rightly remembered most of the third party games on ps / xbox are postponed from year to year because the development times are getting longer and longer and even here, who knows why NVC does not seem to remember and accept it, because in that case the need for a "switch pro" would be less.

Waluigi Pinball has too much stuff that gets in the way compared to other tracks in my opinion. I don't get the hype.

The realistic models in 3 also took a step back in facial expressions. No matter how much you like 3, this is truth.

Typical IGN idiots. Nintendo focuses on art style/designs for all of their games. And yet all these journalists B's (Won't spell it but take a guess what B's is) talk too much about video game graphics and a Switch Pro that is NEVER gonna happen. When will they get it through damn heads. Graphics are temporary, and art style/designs are forever! FACT!

I absolutely LOVED this panel! Great pacing and great chemistry!

I dunno man, 8 out of 10 isn't a fantastic score. If you think it is fantastic and based on your description it sounds like I would have given it a 9.

I played MK DS on dial up internet and it was flawless. The only issue was it a cup series of 4 races with 4 players, so you'd see opponents drop out before the 4th races, sometimes all 3 would and it's back to the menu. That's why MK online since has been single races. Sorry John, Switch OLED is EXACTLY like previous handhelds. Just a minor improvement or refinement, which the New 3DS was to 3DS. The slightly faster processor did not transfer into higher resolutions or frame rates, nor was it sold at a premium price like PS4 Pro. The reality is the speculated new Switch hardware of the red box version and OLED that proved to be standard Nintendo updates were falsely ascribed as a Pro and the media fell for it and still can't move on. The Switch Pro is dead. It was never alive. So move on!

Someday I will play the whole Xenoblade trilogy, and in order. Also, someday I will play the second disc of XenoGears, even if I stalled on it for seven or eight years. And, I like critical theory and stuff, but even I felt that start of that second disc was /too much./ Most importantly, this was a great panel, but Nadia gets a 💫 for having a Cybertron Optimus Prime statue on her shelf! 😄

Nah you DO have a problem with sexy characters because none of that really changes the overall tone of the story. Especially if you played Torna. Also don’t only single out the female cast, there are good looking Male characters too.

The Switch hardware has hosted some great games. However, when you have people running Switch games on Steam Deck with better resolution and framerate, then it's time for Nintendo to upgrade the hardware. I love my Switch but my deck is on its way, and most people I know with one prefer it over the Switch, which they haven't touched since.

I've had a Deck for about 3 weeks now, and while it is very true, like (I think) John said...The first time I went back to my OLED, I was blown away by how much better it looked. Of course it depends on the game, but I played a couple of games with far lower settings on the Switch OLED that looked way better than the Deck and the washed out LCD. It could go either way, but I LOVE having Early Access Indies on the Deck. Either way though, yeah, it's time for an upgrade, Nintendo. Now - Everyone stop breaking sales records, lol. You know the new Switch is probably ready to go into production at any moment, but why do it when chips are in short supply and the Switch is still flying off the shelves?

@@remakeyourself For me the different screens isn't an issue. I don't have a SWOLED, and even my TV is only 1080p but games still look great, so that difference isn't important to me. I'm more about system performance. I hear what you're saying though. The Steam library and emulation make the deck supreme. I'm sure Nintendo is working on a new Switch, but one thing the deck made me think of is that they may be delaying it also because of the cost of parts. Gabe said how it was tough meeting the price points they wanted. The parts are expensive and Nintendo loves to be cost effective to not only keep the price down but make money on every console sold like with the Switch. From a business standpoint, I don't blame Nintendo for not releasing new hardware for the same reasons you said.
