If you need to actually tank in a longer fight, Deflector Shield is REALLY good; you heal for 75% of damage taken during it, get 100% block rate and immunity to reactions during the animation, Awakening gives about 30% damage reduction, and the cooldown is deceptively short because it starts as soon as you initiate the art animation and Awakening gives about 35% faster cooldowns which affects talents arts too. You make up for the talent art not doing direct damage by giving your offensive arts 40% more damage and 35% faster cooldowns. The biggest downsides are that it doesn't work if you dodge everything from the enemy, and it has 4 cooldown the first time you need to charge it.

I have a feeling this guide will be ‘Amazing’

One of the absolute best parts of this series is that even if you're not using the showcased class, there's still something to learn. I didn't see the synergy between multihits and the crit recharge skill til now, and now my full metal jaguar chains fatal barrage into fatal barrage. Keep up the good work and here's hoping your wrists start to feel better

@@Dharengo I don't remember any skills of Dunban's that increases his aggro gain from doing damage, but they way every single tank in the entire series draws aggro is through damage as the aggro gain from damage will greatly outpace things like Mad Taunt. Reyn draws aggro through damage, if you wanted to build a tank in X you wanted to do damage, the reason a lot of tanks in XC2 and XC3 such as Electra or Lost Vanguard struggle to take aggro is because they focus too much on tanking and not enough on damage. It's been true since the first game and hasn't changed at all.

One thing I kinda wish you'd go over is a build for the AI, since builds like this obviously only work when controlled. Just a brief note would be nice, sometimes we want to run a class but not control it.

Gale Slash is also funny since it builds up your talent gauge when you get targeted when you use it.

You should try this similar build with full metal Jaguar. It has even more synergy. I did this same exact build with lone exile thinking the same thing like you due to multi hit then realized that I could do the same with other multi hit classes, and Full metal Jaguar was as good as it gets due to multi hit and benefitting from the cancelling of arts into each other not messing accessory

FMJ is better than Lone Exile in a few ways for this. Its crit rate isn't as high, but it's damage is generally better (especially since Chaotic Memory basically guarantees that you'll be fully stacking Bullet Symphony a good portion of the time), it has 3 dodge fusions thanks to having a native evasion art, and it's an attacker so it can use Fraternal Badge/Protector's Pride to increase its recharge speed

One of my favorite heroes in terms of character, class and gameplay. I am a sucker for a woman who loves battle. On top of that, she’s pretty cute. One of my top 5 heroes and I’m glad I brought her class into the final battle.

I'm starting to realize that the different nations aren't super balanced when it comes to art distribution. When we were going through the class tier list I was expecting this class to have its own evasion art, but the only reason that Lone Exile is more of an Evasion Tank than something like Guardian Commander is nothing deeper than just having longer arts with more hits. This becomes even more apparent when you realize that there are 4 Agnus classes with evasion Arts (5 if you count Tactician's field effect) and only 1 Keves evasion art. You can't even equip more than 3 of them so what's the point of making it this weighted to one side. Would've loved it if I could get more than 1 evasion art for Seraph, but I guess that was too much to ask for

The lack of kevis evasion arts is because there were not any evasion arts in xenoblade 1. The one kevis art with evasion is on fmj from x which has an infamous evasion art in ghostwalker.

I get what you mean, but exactly like how the Arts system for each Nation works they are imbalanced in a way that matched their original games. Like someone said evasion is an extremely popular if at all in the first game while is very common in the second game. I kind of found the same thing for break I found break really common on the keves characters

I LOST it when I saw her arts, same night of hearing (music spoilers) the sword valley remix too. Plus Dunban’s poem would’ve fit perfectly for Blossom Dance considering the narrative of game, and I wanna know why they opted to not include it with the art (but I see why)

Don't underestimate how popular dual blade classes are in any game

Yasssssssss Ashera my other best girl!! God her chain attack effect is so damn good! Helps that she’s a really great character too!

2:09 gale slash is absolutely busted in chain attacks with the right combinations, it's easily one of if not the best move to do decent limit cap damage with something like Fiona

Class is very fun, but unfortunately it's the second to the last defender class you can get in the game. Until chapter 4, you basically only get three to level up and switch between. Anyways, Dunban is hot, so Ashera is too.

It's still a fairly early game class, considering how much of the content is back loaded. And you've still got Zephyr from the start, so I never really felt like I was lacking for a good tank. Unlike healers pre-Valdi.

I find it very funny that we have 2 Tank classes in Lone Exile and Lost Vanguard that sound hilariously similar, to the point where I have to check which one is which all the time. Eye of the Storm might useful as a Fusion art on Lost Vanguard to allow you to keep up agro while using the Shield Wall stance. Really hoping we get to Lost Vanguard or Strategos soon

The reduced damaged when performing an art is a good defensive option. It's not the highest value but it has near permanent up-time for this playstyle so its pretty good.

I mean, for an art spam play style with this class, dodge spam is really the only feasible option, so there's no point in doing anything else. Earlier in the game that might work though

Here it is, the other Tank Class that's fun to use while also being...actually useful, Lone Exile. I'm so glad I'm not the only one that combined Mighty Beat and Soaring Tempest. I just thought that it was extremely hilarious that you could do that to send the enemy up and down in a matter of seconds. Blossom Dance is also extremely funny because of how much you can spam the hell out of it. Getting stuck in a constant loop of Blossom Dance will never not be the most amusing thing. It's probably my favorite Talent Art...aside from a certain one for Noah.

I just tested this build out, but I'm only halfway through my NG+ file, so I shouldn't be that powerful, right? I used Sena because she already had Frenzied Combo unlocked, and even without Eye For Weak Points and Ultimate Qigong, its so spammable and so fun! Thank you for opening my eyes so I could see that Dunban was in fact, over there!

Ashera and her class are one of my faves of the game. Her character itself is quite interesting and unique for a Xenoblade game, her Ascension Quest is phenomenal, she is a fantastic choice for the 7th party member due to her abilities in chain attacks, and her class is just generally a really solid class. I think I prefer playing as Zephyr, but I frequently swapped between Zephyr and Lone Exile during my playthu. This is a great class guide!

Feels like this class should have gotten much more strength when targeted with how frail it is or had way better damage when not targeted as well. Either way hyped for the dlc. Can't wait for custom mode to make debuffs good. First DLC class we getting is an attacker class no doubt.

Honestly my favorite class in the game. Love the hero quest for it too.

The reason I wanted a Lone Exile guide is that it's the only non-starter Tank that I find fun to play. Zephyr's fun and spammy, but you're gonna max it pretty early and then Exile is the only Tank you're actually going to want to control until you increase the Zephyr level limit. Like, Heavy Guard just feels like using a Shield Hammer, Guardian Commander feels like a glorified cooldown waiting room, and Lost Vanguard is like trying to kill your enemies with a wet sponge. I'm taking my time to do all the sidequests at the start of each chapter, so I just very recently ascended the Zephyr class and been stuck mostly not enjoying playing tanks. Honestly, the lack of Tank variety is maybe the biggest issue I have with the game's combat system outside the Chain Attack theme always interrupting the battle music, and I think the fact that it's two issues this small says a lot about its quality.

Yeah agreed, the music thing is annoying and I do wish there were more tank options, but that’s really the extent of my complaints, and Zephr and Lone Exile are enough for me to have fun with tanks

I ran this with dance of barrages nopon strap and ring of roses and to be honest the 22% art charge maintenance is pretty amazing Especially with using 2 3 cool down arts. Mighty beat and ring of roses and honestly no idea what the last one was. But either way. The level of art spam was immense. It was like using Mythra again, with the recharge rings and reusable fusion arts i could had minutes long arts chain if not for being unable to chain off the talent art. Love the class. I loved it so much. Its kinda funny that most characters get more classes outside of their role Like Eunie having mostly tanks, Lanz healers ect

as much as i love the damage i would like to see a tank version of this build

Replace Empowered combo with Agility. And replace the memory locket accessory with an agility one. Done. The build is all about crits so as long as you don't mess with the crits, the damage they do is secondary to staying alive. That being said, you can bring classes that help you stay alive, like Troubadour, signifier, and soulhacker so I don't see the harm in leaning on the offense.

Favourite Keves class to play by far! Glad to see the evasion tank rep is as good as usual

Lone exile actually have horrible Agility stats, worse than that of Heavy Guard. And from her skills, it's actually implied she's meant to be tanking via dmg reduction, actually. It's just that Enel essentially turned her into (Evasion Tank) Mythra 2.0.

LETS GOOOOOO also I had no clue that smash damage scaled with the time remaining on launch, I got like 5 million on one smash during round 6 of a chain (Fiona order lol) and have been trying to recreate it ever since

Oh yeah this is a fun setup, just found out how stupid multi hit frenzied combo is too thanks to unlimited sword. I'm doing this right now with FMJ and the damage is stupid.

Eye for weak points also synergizes really well with all the multihits. You're basically fully stacked up after like 5 arts.

I'd appreciate a guide on Lost Vanguard. More precisely, a guide on how to find a setup for the AI to keep aggro, along with a different build, maybe more player oriented, so people watching have those two options ?

I wonder if this sort of build can also work with other classes with lots of multihit attacks, like FMJ. Although on that one would need more help to get a decent crit chance, the really long animations just allow you to evade for quite some time.

FMJ absolutely works for this, arguably better than Lone Exile. Its crit rate isn't as high, but it can stack Eye for Weak points faster because of its higher number of hits (especially male characters, who get a few extra hits on Fatal Barrage for some reason) to make up for that, and its higher hit count also means it's usually guaranteed to recharge its art. Because of Chaotic Memory, Bullet Symphony will be fully stacked a good portion of the time, so its damage is likely a bit higher than Lone Exile (perhaps on par, I haven't tested it), it has a native evasion art meaning it has 3 dodge fusions as opposed to just 2, and it's an attacker so it can use Fraternal Badge/Protector's Pride to further increase its recharge speed. And your other characters can take advantage of that too

Not gonna lie I had a lot of fun running this class for Defender Noah for his spoiler art, but it definitely had less survivability than the other tanks. Which is a shame cuz the animations ARE SO COOL

Because of the weapon I tought that it sould an attacker/defender hybrids that gets aggro by doing damage instead of special skills like heavy guard and zephyr but color me surprised when I found that it was basically a less effective zephyr but give it the right gems, accessories and master art and it was just as good at evasion as zephyr and maybe even better.

Twinblade, Double Saber, Thanos sword thing. . . just love this style of weapon. Be it from Souls, to Phantasy Star. And dammit, if you're not using Ashera as a Hero; it just feels nice to have a Lone Exile in the party for its awesome moves and drip alone. Hope you do Yumsmith next.

Looking through your videos, I am somewhat scared to not play tanks because the AI doesn't seem very competent with Arts canceling or using evasion skills properly (from what I've seen from my own playthrough). What are your thoughts about AI-controlled tanks? Would it still be a good idea to run evasion tanks and just focus on their passive evasion?

the way I understood the "If someone near takes damage you deal damae" is the tank circle, if an ally takes damage while in the circle, due to AOE or lost aggro to healer, and they take damage while in the circle, you deal that damage

blossom dance is so spammable and I love it! especially because I can set it on mio's class hold up, this entire class is literally mythra level spammable wtf

It would be great if you could do a video OVERALL of which characters should have which classes. (Like a guide for Eunie, Lanz, Noah, etc etc and their most optimal builds)

When explaining your master skills, could you explain which class they come from? I know many of the are repeats, but sometimes you run a unique skill that I have never heard of. It would also be helpful to have a 60 second segment at the end identifying how to start the ascension quest for the class.

What's a fun combination of class do you usually like to play together and/or do you plan on making a video about good combination?

The long cooldowns on Keves Stances actually aren't that much of a hindrance, as the default duration for Stances is 30s. At 36s, you'll only have about 6s of downtime, provided you cancel out of any endlag. That's over 80% uptime! All you need is one art recharge speed effect and you can have 100% uptime on any stance, no stance duration accessory necessary.

Now I just need our Resident Bard Class, and I will be set

Is there a list anywhere that details how long arts take, and whether or not they are multi hit? I find some arts take extremely long to execute, which would impact the overall dps.

Would a Strike Bangle or a Dragonfang Neckless do more damage than a Ceramic Belt? I'm curious... I think an increase to overall damage might be better than an increase to Attack... Edit: Or maybe even a Victor Gauntlet for an evasion tank or pure DPS?

depends on the current multipliers. I think a general attack boost here was the right move since I already had an additive increase to damage

I would say this one was highly requested because the class is just kinda fun and is a more different tank since it's more focused on agility unlike most in this game. That, and Ashera is just the best. Probably one of the best first impressions a voice actress has had in this series for me.

Does that instant Smash trick work with other Fusion combos, as well? Like for example, if you fused a Break and a Topple art, could you instantly Topple an enemy?

how does ignore defense attack interacts with defense penetration like ultimate qigong?

they stack, so an enemy with 30% (or any value) phys def goes down to 0% from the pierce and then to -50% from qigong. while I haven't tested it I assume this also applies in chain attacks with noah and taion/eunie's orders
