Xcalak's Salty Buffet - Fly Fishing Mexico's Flats - Giant Bonefish and MORE!

Ойын-сауық

Buffet Series Episode 2 - Xcalak is a small secluded fishing village located near the Mexico/Belize border. Surrounded by flats that are full of bonefish, permit, snook, jacks, barracuda, and many other species, Xcalak is the perfect place for a saltwater fly fishing destination trip.
We made the most of our time while there, from sun up to sun down we were on the water looking for anything that would eat a fly. Assisted by our great friend Alex Beck and a local guide Alejandro and his son Thomas, we not only found many willing fish, but also some world-class size bonefish that are rumored not to exist on Mexico's flats. Our minds were truly blown with this experience and we are very excited to share it with you!
Coming up, Episode 3 is set to launch Tuesday April 16, 2019 - OP Buffet. Get ready for some giant steelhead from one of the world's most pristine rainforests, the Olympic Peninsula!
Whether your preference is chasing trout in a cold mountain stream, bonefish on a secluded flat, steelhead on the Olympic Peninsula, or large mouth bass in your favorite warm water pond, the Buffet Series has something for you!

    This is awesome! Caught my first Permit in March! We fished out of Xcalak with Moises and Felipe. They were great guides. We saw Cuda, Tarpon, Bones, Permit and Jacks but no snook. We saw some massive Tarpon on the ocean side as well. Awesome video quality, expecially on those release videos. You guys gotta go back for a Permit. They fight like crazy.

    Nick S so awesome you got a permit! It doesn’t reflect in the film, but about 70% of our time down there was spent looking for and fishing to permit. We threw to a bunch of them but none to hand. We’ll be headed back that way for sure!!!

    @@GilbertRowley would you say it's at all romantic or heavily on the fishing trip side?

  • @GilbertRowley

    @@timberwolfoutdoors5520 It's very romantic and actually not a fishing lodge. They have hammocks, layout chairs, and their own personal doc. I would highly recommend it for a honeymoon. Keep in mind Xcalak is a small fishing village, not at all like Cancun. The rooms are nice, but it's not commercialized at all down there. That's what makes it so nice!

    Super quick question, why all the slow motion?

  • @GilbertRowley

    @GilbertRowley

    5 жыл бұрын

    Great question. Personal preference 100%. I prefer to show (and see) things in a way that is most pleasing to my eye. For example, in this video the snook eat on top and the jumps would have happened so quick in real time that the details of what is taking place would be lost. Granted, we probably over shoot the slow mo, but it's a stylistic choice really.

  • @ryanenns

    @ryanenns

    5 жыл бұрын

    I can appreciate your personal preference and style, and in that case, you provided a fantastic edit and video. I concur that “the take” absolutely has to be done in slow motion, and that goes for any take or rise of a fish!! I’m hoping for more story line/board from producers and editors less fishporn. Do we have to see Phil smile in slow motion 😏
