Xbox series X Audio Latency

Ойындар

Hey everyone just sharing my results of audio latency on xbox seriesx. Like I mentined in the video the numbers are based on the best possible result on PS5, so everything is added time when compared to what true USB audio on PS5 can do. I've done these tests a few times and got more or less same results. the headset used was the epos H6 open and it was kept at the exact same place for every test, also everything was recorded on the camera's internal mic. I did consider if the camera could add latency to the audio but doing them multiple times showed the same numbers.

    Hey yes in real life I don’t think we can notice this. If I play both clips together the Xbox gunfire for sure is slightly delayed, but whilst gaming I’ve never felt it off sync at all. Also when I got the PS5, it wasn’t like wow the sound is amazing, it was actually the opposite, as I love the Dolby access processing without the surround effect.

    Dope analysis! COD and other actions game audio delay is more than acceptable. But in Alan Wake 2, Callisto Protocol, HiFi Rush where there’s lip de-sync or you’re timing a button press to the audio cue it’s distracting and kills the experience. Tweet Phil and Xbox; it really should be as close to 0 ms as possible at the system level. Maybe there’s a newer, better solution for atmos processing. 🤞🏾

    Awesome test, very in depth. I personally run audio from HDMI with my xbox then use a turtle Beach USB Xbox desktop mic so no controller audio will be involved. I found this to be better audio then the dac in the controllers as well as less delay. I use a audio extractor between the xbox and TV to a DAC/Amp. As all the console licensed audio stuff seems to be semi garbage.

    I do hope Xbox open the true USB audio options. Audio over hdmi does sound better. The usb mic solution sounds interesting, I want to use my creative G6 with optical and was thinking of using Co pilot controller for mic solution.

    The TB stream USB mic has been huge for me, it also has a headphone port for mic monitoring and such, however I find the built in DAC of the usb mic to be similar to the controllers and not be sufficient to power high ohm cans. I believe its the only usb mic xbox has licsenced and I had to buy it off ebay since its so old. I had a friend who suggested the g6 when I was initially figuring out how to use audiophile equipment with my xbox, my buddy I believe does it differently by going hdmi to the TV then from TV to the g6, I assume via optical or line in. The only tough thing about the audio extractor is getting one that has VRR 120hz and all that jazz as most TVs have limitations with audio pass through.@@thephototechy

    I ended up picking up the GameDAC Gen 2 on sale for $70. So far, I haven't really noticed a delay which agrees with the top comment - the difference in latency is not really noticeable. I am pairing this with 1MORE Triple Driver earbuds. I really wanted the GameDAC foe convenience because I use multiple controllers and its much easier to use my headphones this way. I will say, this device really added depth to the soundstage, particularly the bass. Gun sounds and explosions have so much more punch. Positional sounds feel a bit more precise as well. For $70, I personally feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

    Hey yes the device is absolutely amazing, and the latency really depends on the use. Like I mentioned as well it’s not something that I could ever pick up. The only time I can feel it is in bf2042, where at times my own footsteps felt like enemies.

    Thanks for the vid, was waiting for this one! I'm curious how this is with DTS for headphone vs Dolby for headphone. Which EQ profile did you use for Dolby? (Gaming performance mode or your own EQ profile). Currently owner of the same hdmi extractor trying out optical now :)

  • @thephototechy

    @thephototechy

    Hey so I do have the results of DTS and windows sonic, DTS has a little less latency of around 1 frame 8.3ms compared to Dolby, but personally I feel the sound to be not accurate. Dolby I use either custom eq with virtualiser off or game mode but with performance mode off and use either detail or off. There is one amazing feature if you use custom eq and enable volume level toggle, honestly it makes it you hear everything. You’ll have to get used to it as even friendly footsteps are loud and you’ll feel as if enemies a lot closer than they are, but once you get used to it, it’ll change the game. I have tried performance mode and yes it’s a nice balance of not too much surround and still stereo feeling, but it still does this effect where audio from the left is slightly in the right ear as well, so personally I think any virtual surround is not for me.

  • @AcSn0opy

    @AcSn0opy

    5 ай бұрын

    @@thephototechy I agree DTS not being accurate sometimes. I think it really has the best virtual surround but for some reason sometimes sound comes from somewhere else and I'm always doubting if this was COD or DTS. Definitely going to try the Dolby volume leveler with the Gadgetry tech Warzone target EQ. Hopefully this will be a gamechanger! Thanks again!

    You know bro there is one that’s a bit cheaper and sorta same size as my HDMI 2.0 but still £80 is a lot. I hope Xbox open the UAC protocol and honestly that’d make Xbox even more appealing. Funny thing is if I connect my G6 to Xbox it’s not recognised at all but the G6 will show the led colours saved on the pc, connecting the G6 to ps5 reverts the led to factory colours, so there is some usb communication is there but not for normal audio output.

    another 5 months later, the issue persists. Audio latency on Xbox series is terrible when connected to a soundbar via HDMI. Interestingly enough, I've found that passthrough helped things a bit, but the issue is very much still present. I measured anywhere from 40-70ms delay even with the hard-wired connection

    My very simple thought process is, there’s a 75ms difference between one of the best and worst solutions. That’s .075 seconds of latency. Realistically, how many of us are going to notice that in real world use case. We all want the best gaming experience that gives us the advantage but I’d argue that in this scenario no one’s KDR is going to be affected by any of these set ups. Nevertheless, very interesting.

    I couldn’t have said it better. I’ve played these clips together and listened to the audio and felt the difference is definitely noticeable but will it impact gaming, coz whilst playing I couldn’t tell audio being out of sync. One good thing I discovered was video latency is same on PS5 and seriesX where the controller matters and not the console.

    Hey Bro, so about the headphone jack being disabled while using the 1000hz on the g7se. My co pilot controller has very bad stickdrift and it literally broke, so It doesn't even turn on. So I figured out a way to get audio. I used the remote play feature with my phone. I connected my headset to the my phone while using remote play on the Xbox app. As same as you with the co-pilot method, I was wondering if this method had any latency impact on the g7se. I can't test it because I can't shoot a 240fps video😅. The other method (in my case) was just to buy a Xbox one controller (to save money) not a series controller, but I don't know if Xbox one controller has the co pilot option. My other question is, is the audio output quality the same as the series controllers or worse? Pls help me out brother THANK YOU

    Every USB headset I've tried has latency, even the official Xbox one (to me it honestly feels worse on it than my others). If you add Atmos or DTSX it makes it even worse. It's been this way since the Xbox One. Really sucks. Optical through an extractor seems to be the only answer. I've got one from Orei that's an 8K Splitter/Switch combo with an optical out.
