    Great video as usual Huddison! You're right as well, that generally speaking, you do not use AP to land in GA Aircraft. Some airliners can do it, but not GA.... At least, not until now.. Read on: Garmin has FAA certification for GA Auto Land. It's currently available only on select G3000 equipped planes. Right now, it's in the Piper M600 SLS, the Cirrus Vision Jet, and the TBM 940. More to follow. Now this one, is more for emergencies. All anyone has to do is push a button, and the plane takes over completely. Picks an airport, sets up arrival, talks to ATC the whole works... Zero human intervention. So you can imagine, pilot assisted auto land like airliners, could also be a thing, real soon.. Keep em coming!! 😎

    Thanks again for posting this tutorial. I followed the directions (LOAD PPL and then ACTIVATE) and worked like a charm the first time although I never say the magenta 'G' but instead the magenta 'V' I realized that I have to press APPRCH while the diamond is above my altitude. Out of curiosity I repeated the route using LOAD only in the flight plan. Not only I did not see the diamond, but it took me on a very strange route with reaching the second waypoint before the first. Give it a try! I don't know if this is who the G1000 behaves in real life or is a quirk of MSFS. I am intereste in knowing if others can repeat this.

    Hudds ... What role does FD Flight Director perform on the G1000 nxi. Seems not to do much compared to AP Autopilot. Keeping all these videos together as there's so much to learn. Often think that lad flying the footballer from Nantes to Cardiff didn't seem to have the IFR rating which was crazy at that time of night.

    I have a question. I am using the Cessna 172 with the Garmin 1000 NXI mod (Xbox series x) and believe I am following everything correctly but I am unable to select the same approach you have in the video. My choice is “RNAVGPS Y27L LNAV/VNAV’. At first I was thinking that this would be the same as what you have. Your approach is RNAVGPS 27LY. I do not have that choice in my list. So, When I select “RNAVGPS Y27L LNAV/VNAV’’ and then scroll down and load it, it completely changes my magenta GPS line. It actually moves the line south of the airport and extends east to almost the English Channel. Obviously, I cannot continue on with the flight because the approach would not be correct. I did try. My guess is that it has something to do with LNAV and somehow I change a setting somewhere. However, I do not know if that’s entirely true. I appreciate any help out there.

    Do RNAV approaches always have a glidepath? Some RNAV charts don't show the glidepath long arrow shape on the profile view and some do show it. I've had issues with planes not automatically catching the glidepath in the past, even when strictly following the navpoint elevations on the chart

  • @Huddison

    @Huddison

    Жыл бұрын

    I not certain if they all do, but best to be doubly sure and input the Nav frequency (like I show in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kaegqMxpmKfdgdo.html) and you should capture the Glidepath/slope.

    Great video, I have tried this but always bottled out at the last minute and landed manually - must be a survival instinct?? Question - when or why would you select RNAV over ILS when both are on offer?? Is RNAV replacing ILS - I guess it is cheaper as no ILS equipment is needed??

  • @Huddison

    @Huddison

    2 жыл бұрын

    RNAV is satellite based and therefore more accurate; whilst ILS is purely ground based. I guess it'll come down to aircraft type, conditions and preferences etc, as to which one you would use.

    FYI, I duplicated your procedure in the Cessna 172 and it works the same as your video. Tried the process in a Cessna 208 with the same AP and it fails to descend after the first waypoint. I have had the earlier versions of the NXi work in the 208. Still a work in progress I presume.

    Just one more comment. Followed your video since 11:00 this morning and have done everything. So when you activate before take off your destination ILS in this case Heathrow, so up I go, first thing after AP the plane heads off ina another direction. Stop, watch video off we go again. Guided the plane to the magenta line this time and bingo, sat nav picked it up and followed its path. Now what I did this time was mourn turn on activate approach until on the flight plan - it worked. I glided down all going well touched down, but I couldn’t guide the place with aerlions (left and right) ended up in a fence. Not sure why as they work during takeoff - bugs, bugs and more bugs

    @@Huddison I just wish I could remember all of the terminology..IFR, VFR, ILS, CDI, FLC, VORS..I mean, I am getting alot of them memorized and what their meanings are, but geez! I did recently look up what the barometric pressure is for, but it always seems that it is preset when I start out..I have not had to adjust it one time yet, because it's always set to the correct number..My BIGGEST issue right now is learning which runway I need to taxi to, because I don't want to play with the taxi ribbon turned on, I feel like that is cheating..I just wish I knew from the start where I need to go when given a runway number..I know that the numbers have to do with heading, but it is still very confusing to me..Same with landing on the right runway, as well as flying the correct traffic pattern when landing...Even with all these issues I have, this is still a fantastic simulation, and I am having a blast with learning it..I do have a few gripes with the Xbox series s version, which is what I play on since I can't afford a gaming PC..THE BUGS!! Primarily the bugs with the HOTAS T flight one..I also purchased a mouse and keyboard because I knew the game would be much more accessible with keyboard and mouse, and I refuse to try playing this simulation with a game pad..I bought the T Flight One on day one of the release, and the fact that Asobo has not yet patched the Hotas issues does irritate me, because they knew that alot of people were going to buy that peripheral just for this game..How it is still so screwed up is beyond me..I do have all the buttons mapped to where I want them, despite all being labeled wrong in the keybindings, but what irritates me the most is that they still haven't patched the sensitivity settings saving..I don't leave my console on when not playing it, I always do a full shutdown..The fact that I have to keep starting fresh with setting up sensitivity Everytime is ridiculous..I wonder if this is an Asobo issue, or if it's a patch that needs to come from Thrustmaster?? Anyway, I'll shut up, haha..Having great fun so far, and your videos are very helpful to me, as well as very comforting videos..I watch them whenever I start feeling stressed about life, and they always help calm me down..You're the man, Huddison..Keep them coming!

    Very helpful videos as someone new to MSFS. I play on Xbox Series X and when setting the altitude for AP it works fine in cockpit display but never registers on external view. Always shows 99000 as altitude setting. It doesn't impact the flight since AP is engaged and following altitude and and climb rate set before take off. It just seems odd.
