Jez is right. Would be horrible for Xbox if they release Hi-Fi Rush on Switch or PS5. Even if they would never release another game on another platform than Xbox and PC the media (who already is against Xbox) would question every game for the next 50 years. I already can see the next headline: so with hi fi Rush's release on the Switch and Starfield beeing a "flop" when is The Elder Scrolls 6 coming to PS5? Or Google Stadia is dead - but when is Halo coming to Google Stadia?

If the game going multiplat is HiFi Rush, then its a huge L. Not because "I dont want someone else to play it". But because that just tells everyone "Bethesda and Activision are still 3rd party" and "You had one amazing exclusive and you gave it away to your competition". That would devalue their entire initiative to even buy studios and everyone will just double down on wanting games like Hellblade 2, Avowed, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Blade etc.. to go multiplat.

I think this whole conversation has only been intensified by Xbox consoles taking a backseat in their actual plans, and now the community feels even more alienated from their future plans. Their taking their highest rated exclusive to the Switch (allegedly) in a move that in no way shape or form actually benefits the Xbox community, and only hurts the brand. I don't think a future where Microsoft publishes everywhere (but still makes Xbox's for those who want Game Pass) is all that far fetched, and I honestly cant blame the community members who supported the brand and platform for over 20 years if they feel a little miffed about it.

If Xbox (exclusive) goes 3rd party the floodgates will have opened and it will 100% hurt the ecosystem. As much as I love Xbox I will just go to PlayStation and spend my 3rd party money on the PlayStation store instead of the Xbox store. Dangerous territory for Xbox. The Xbox store is what brings in the big bucks, players spending money on Fortnite Roblox, GTA. You go 3rd party kiss goodbye to that money.

Xbox bringing a game like HiFi would be a huge hit to the Xbox brand. It’ll leave their loyal Xbox fans confused and I could see many just leaving the brand by going full PC or just jumping on PlayStation. It opens up the possibility of Starfield, Hellblade, Blade etc going to PlayStation which will definitely hurt console sales and the loyalty of their players and personally I would just jump ship to full PC.

Microsoft doesn't care about selling consoles. Consoles don't make money. They've made it clear already that PC is a main platform for them. However they won't support PlayStation without reciprocity. Sony has to put games on their platforms.

Hey guys just to clarify with one of your questions...most of the Xboxes sold now come with 90 free trial for gamepass ultimate

If Xbox puts 1st party games on switch or ps . It really spits in the face of the Xbox people who invest because as a Xbox owner I can't play Mario wonder or god of war. But they can play Xbox games. Not really fair and makes u not want to invest in they ecosystem..

After warcraft reforge debacle the last thing blizzard needs to work on is warcraft 1-2 remastered, there is an reason the old warcraft games got removed from the battlenet store.

Xbox starting to see fruits of their labor and now you don’t hear anything from the XBOX guys anymore hardly. Rand, Dealer, Zalker…….. Colt still churns out the weekly video to try and keep up with the algorithm, but now almost complete silence.

Microsoft game studios would thrive as a 3rd party publisher.

Why do so many people think wow is impossible on xbox when xbox litterally supports mouse and keyboard. Like FF14 most will start off with controller but if the game hooks them most will probably transition to mouse and keyboard. I have a mouse and keyboard hooked up to my consoles for certain games

By the way if anyone actually cares, the game getting ported to Playstation is the oblivion remaster coming later this year. Hmm thanks for the warning with the BG3 thing, and its so stupid too, the games rated mature, why dont they do like steam where you can mark the screenshot as mature rated content, and then manually have to agree that you do want to see it be it a spoiler or a pair of tits as we can play games as adults, but they dont treat people like adults, and now you gotta all this content moderation where they want people to rat on voice chat now too like they really need to get stuffed, as its a free country, no matter what they say, also I dont see outer worlds 2 listed in the timestamps, but I just wanted to give you guys a heads up Tim Caine is NOT the man you want from the fallout team to work on that, the people that made fallout great were the people around him, him himself actually wanted the difficulty detuned in more than a few sections on the outer worlds he mentions it in one of this videos about it and makes it a point that he always wants a way for a set playstyle to get through every part of the game, which removes the challenge of doing it that way as your not supposed to be able to do it that way, yet you found out a way of doing it, its one of the hallmarks of the old old games like fallout that gave it its charm, as you felt like you did something and truly beat the game full on Kobashi maru style, where you worked around and bypassed its programing to beat it in a new and unexpected way, which is what made it so rewarding like full on the naked jakey video on red dead's mission design, I mean hell think dog meat in the first fallout for a perfect example of that, where he was supposed to die at the maraposa military base and people beat it by getting him stuck behind a yellow force field to keep him back so you could just get him on the way out and he's actively trying to screw it up with his approach to game balancing with his all accomidating style that is truly jack of all trades, master of none and its also one of the things his youtube channel has really brought to light IE that the true godfathers of fallout were Chris Avalone, and Josh Sawyer, Tim Caine was just a program and Idea man who is the only person in the world who likes meetings, which for anyone who actually does work, you know how much they suck because now your either getting your program rewritten and having to start over, waste time chatting over things that dont matter when you could be finishing your work or just waiting for the Jelly Donuts to arrive all things I tried to explain to him to no aval when he was like I dont get why people dont like meetings and then theirs some other issues, you wonder why fallout, or rather the open worlds felt very............ stupid, like stupid stupid that was his sense of humor coming through without any of the other fallout members to hold him back like he might be a great guy to talk to, and to do your programing, but god almighty do not make him the project lead and its actually a sign that obisidian, the new obsidian which is owned by xbox, the same one getting bent out of shape about sex, tits and fun in a game like BG3 is completely lost and not worth paying attention to, as they did this same thing with the OG outer worlds, from the people who brought you new vegas and they werent, Josh Sawyer was called in once to help with the weapon balancing and that was it and if you dont know who he is, he was the lead game designer and project lead of fallout new vegas, wrote honest hearts with the burned man detective, the last one you pair up with from LA Noire that bethesda then used as a generic NPC in that failed fallout game that everyone hates and fallout Van burren, the canceled game that then went on to be the base of new vegas, thanks to interplay being run by idiots as the game that came before it, which I highly recommend everyone go to retcon raider to watch his series on and theirs also a very noticible tone to his games given how religious he is which really adds to them, and made them feel so unique to the point where I seriously wonder if tim caine really worked on fallout 1 at all with how religious its tones got at times. like I really just think he was a background man who got way too much credit for what he did on the game so until you see Josh and Chris as the lead writers and game designers behind a game that is marketed as being made by, or tested by the people from fallout dont buy into it in the slightest like I did with the outer worlds

Isn't 3rd party revenue a big part of the profit for both PlayStation and Xbox? If Xbox would go 3rd party they would lose all 3rd party revenue, and be solely dependent on their own products and won't be able to profit from things like Roblox, Fortnight, EA sports games and other possible new hugely profitable 3rd party games. To be able to still profit from these mega games, then Xbox would have to either create them themselves, which no console manufacturer has been able to do thus far, so that's unlikely to happen, or they would have to buy them, which is hugely pricey and comes with huge risks, because popularity is very expensive and can be fickle and easily switch to another 3rd party game(look at Pubg and Fortnight). Since I switched to PC, I prefer Steam over the Xbox app, and haven't bought 3rd party on Xbox as a result, of course that's just an anecdotal example, but that still means I spend about 300 euros a year less on Xbox as a result. That would not have happened if the Xbox app would be better and more games would be available on Xbox pc. Now I could not even buy Baldur's gate 3 on Xbox pc, even if I wanted to, so I bought that in Steam and that further solidified my connection to that platform. I still like Xbox, I think it's the most interesting and positive console manufactorer and Phill is a great guy and the community is great as well, and I do care about that stuff, also am I looking forward to their exclusives a lot, and might buy the next Xbox console. But only if there is a reason for it will I stay in the Xbox ecosystem, and Gamepass really isn't it for me. I usually play a few games a year, and spend a lot of time in these games, but don't enjoy playing dozens of different games. I actually enjoy the experience of buying and owning a game I am looking forward to playing, and I don't think I am special in that regard at all.

If Xbox starts going multi platform with first party games I think that would be it for me. I have been loyal since 2004 but I am getting more and more tempted to jump over to Playstation. The only reasons I haven't are my Gamertag and achievements going back 20 years, game pass, and a few of my favorite developers are owned by Microsoft. There would just be no reason to stay in the ecosystem beyond game pass. That would be so foolish. Look at Nintendo's success. I really hope this is the year we see Xbox release more than 1 or 2 AAA critically acclaimed titles. I am crossing my fingers for Fable, Hellblade, Stalker 2, and Avowed. It would also be great to get a release date for Gears 6, Everwild and Clockwork Revolution for late 2024 or the first half 2025. Let's hope that they are clever and plan to have one game a year shadow drops like Hi-Fi Rush too.

Yep... i'm not exactly an "Xbox-only guy" (as I game on multiple platforms)... but if Xbox/Phil starts porting over too many of their exclusives to competing storefronts.. then its a sign that building a gaming library on Xbox/Windows-store is pointless. MS/Xbox already had a problem with mixed-messaging. They might not even see the cliff they're sailing towards but they'll def go over it if they convince the gaming population to just wait for Xbox games to appear elsewhere, eventually. (Look at Epic Games Store.. even their 'free games' promotion isn't really pulling people away from Steam. And most Steam users just wait for Epic "exclusives" to just launch on Steam, at some point or another)

Xbox console is already irrelevant. Pc gamepass is $7 cheaper a month than ultimate ($84 a year). For $200 a year you can get GeForce now and save $84 dollars on pc gamepass while also having access to ps games that come to steam.

I actually find it strange how Steam almost has monopoly over pc gaming. I am not sure how any company or service can crack that. And even with everything consumer friendly Xbox has done and the Activision deal going through it seems like they unofficially killed their brand with the Xbone launch debacle. Only way they beat PS at this point is CoD exclusivity. And I was an Xbox die hard. Never Xbox only. I have a switch, PS3, Vita etc. I am a gamer at heart and a Nintendo fan first.@@varno6793

Dude, cloud gaming is nowhere near good enough for me to say consoles are irrelevant. Plus you need decent internet, unlimited data, or a $1000 plus PC. That excludes a ton of rural areas and lower income folk. I would not take streaming my content over downloads at this point. And by that argument Playstation consoles are practically irrelevant because now people are spending 600 plus for a dozen exclusives they might like, which will likely be released on PC. And who would have thought the Switch would sell so well when everybody has a phone or tablet?

I was actually looking at buying Hi Fi Rush on Steam winter sale. I’m glad I didn’t buy it. I was debating letting my GamePass subscription go. Now this has really helped me decide. What’s the point of having GamePass when Xbox is going to give the same gam to PlayStation. Let PlayStation support Hi Fi Rush. Has Microsoft forgotten all the headaches PlayStation caused them during ABK. My loyalty is declining. Give PlayStation halo Hellblade 2. Give them all of it. And see how Xbox is perceived by their former fan base.

What's the point of having Game Pass if the game is on PlayStation? What? Uh, you pay less to play and finish the game if it goes to Game Pass? Duh? That's like saying what's the point of playing Persona 3 Reload on Game Pass since it is on PlayStation? And relax, this is just a rumor. No one is saying for sure Hi-Fi is actually coming to PlayStation or Halo is coming to PS5. Complain about it AFTER.

Without exclusives platform is dead

Whenever Xbox pundits talk about Starfield they point to the negative reviews on Steam or in the press... what about the ones in the Xbox store? No PS gamers there. Starfield was a game that didn't deliver on its hype, and ultimately (once you got past the spectacle and perceived scope) wasn't even that great as a Bethesda game. The 1 star reviews are idiotic, but it's certainly earning its middling reviews. I was at a 9.5 early doors, the potential seemed epic... but I was at a 6 by the end. The game needs 20+ hours just to sample everything and figure out some of the quirks, so you're invested, even if you're only barely registering on the fun-o-meter. So I can understand longer time reviews of up to 100 hours with poor scores.

A lot of the conversation has left the FTC out of this. They are still Hawk watching Microsoft and want to get any win where they can.

I can see hi-fi rush going to Nintendo... Chai and 808 are built to have fans in Japan... Switch would open up those characters to ppl in areas with a weak Xbox foothold.

As most of those customers, who were already reluctant to buy an Xbox or pay for Game Pass... will just happily play Hifi Rush on their Nintendo and then proceed to wait for the sequel to hit Nintendo storefront as well. Its basically telling the audience, an "Xbox exclusive doesn't really mean anything. Our policy is to have no policy..."

​@@varno6793 I do agree that releasing games on Nintendo is pointless and would do absolutely nothing to get people to join the Xbox ecosystem. Reminds me of people (ehem, Jez and Rand) saying if a new Banjo Kazooie game does happen, it should release on Switch day-one because it will expand the reach of the game and maybe compel Nintendo fans to get an Xbox/PC/Game Pass. And I'm like, no it won't. If all the games Xbox releases that appeal to Nintendo fans all release on Nintendo consoles day-and-date, it will do absolutely nothing for the brand. Banjo releasing on Switch day-one is not gonna get any Nintendo fans to get Game Pass or buy an Xbox/PC. At the very least, it should be exclusive to the platform.

I think many often forget.. how lazy the average customer is and how easily entrenched they can become into their preferred ecosystem/platform where their larger library exists. If a Nintendo-only/Playstation-only consumer has the option to just sit around & wait.. for Xbox games to come to him and he doesn't have to lift a finger/purchase a second-console.. then he'll most likely just do that & wait. Exclusivity still does work on getting customers introduced onto a new platform (or even lured to a sub service like Game Pass). But if Xbox/MS abandons the "foot in the door strategy", then they might as well just become full third-party publisher as they're burying their own platform.

It's frustrating how people go back to quotes from 5+ years ago. Do they realize how ineffective a business would be if they weren't constantly evolving and just stuck to the same mentality that they had nearly a decade ago? If Phil Spencer is not adjusting his stance as the industry evolves then he would not be qualified to be the leader. His opinions SHOULD change as the years go by.

No one knows what’s the best decision at all times, but if MS had good reason to think something is bad for business they wouldn’t be doing it.

I've been a long time defender (with lots of pushback) of the idea that Xbox publishing on multiple platforms is perfectly ok. I understand people have strong feelings.. But.. As Jez even worked through on this episode, it's actually SO dependent on context. There are a few situations where there would be huge backlash. Everything else? Eh. There's room for us to be convinced. Can it be done poorly? Of course, quite a lot. But it's not nearly as inevitable doom as many seem to think at first blush. Type of game matters. Flight sim would be perfectly acceptable on any platform. People would be fine with sea of Thieves. Platform matters. Most people wouldn't care if most games end up on switch. Nobody cares that every game comes to steam. They're care about mobile, but for a different reason. Delivery matters. If they're cloud games, people can be fine with it. Zeitgeist/acclaim matter. Halo will always be protected. But.. What about halo spin offs? Is it so locked in stone? I don't think so. Monetization matters! People would be more ok with it, of you had to purchase the whole catalog (Xbox bundle) or subscribe (game pass) in order to get access. That extra barrier is a psychological crutch for acceptance. Basically, if Xbox delivers exactly what they offer on Xbox to Playstation, specifically, then people will be mad. But like.... There are SO MANY ways to not do that and still reap the benefits of bigger markets. Not easy, but possible. All that said, the money is in the platform. So it can't just be a revenue play. Anything they do has to strengthen the overall Xbox platform. So they CAN'T just do Xbox again on a rival platform. If they try, I'm interested in what they do.

As long as it's games going to Switch then they will be fine but games going to PS means people will just abandon Xbox when they can get everything on one platform and that will be the end of Gamepass on consoles as PS and Nin will never allow it

@@MightyMork Because they'd have to buy thoes games at $70 a pop... Rather than pay a smaller sub fee every month. The hardcore XB fans would be pissed. But they was the ones calling "HOLD the line" surely they wouldn't turn their backs on XB now.

I don't think Xbox will ever go 3P but the mixed messaging is so stupid at this point. Either go third party or don't, PS should realistically get nothing after their ABK antics.

@@MightyMork Their antics. Come on bro. SONY had to do what they had to do as a business and XB needs their sales. Seems like you want XB to deal with SONY on a personal level, when nothing is personal in business. I was on about the hardcore fans they will never buy a playstation, they would rather give up gaming. I think XB should just go 3rd party. All they want is revenue, go thrid party and you'll get all the money you want. They can support SONY and NINTENDO while buying out embracer and challenging Tencent.

I have both consoles for a reason. It seems the only ones talking about Xbox games on "other platforms" is the ps zelots that act as if games are beholden to thier lifesbain Japanese mega company. Xbox is putting their software in the cloud because thats where MS pushed the whole industry almost 2 decades ago while Sony pays governments, fancasters and media alike to smash anything MS

For a game that sucks, there are sure a lot of people playing Starfield. Maybe what this indicates is that the Twitterverse and even the community of people on Steam that take the time to post reviews are not the world, and are not necessarily representative of the world.

If Microsoft does this then I’m thinking about selling my Series X. Because it’s like what do I need a Xbox for. I’ll play on PC and SteamDeck. If Microsoft wants to be third party then I don’t need Microsoft hardware. The most I’ll buy from Xbox is a controller and call it a day.
