I don't think Microsoft has a messaging problem. They have been saying what they were going to do for years. They are trying to turn the industry on it's head. And they will. Tim Stuart has probably been the most honest about Xbox's intentions in the console space. They want to be the place where games are played "first, better, or best" and that's what they are doing. Microsoft is going to make Sony and Nintendo pay for games that Xbox users will get in Gamepass for $17 a month. That's the play. You still have hardware, but people are going to get tired of paying for single games and want all of them in a service. That's how you become the "Netflix of gaming". by putting some of your games to compete with a competitor on thier console. People only have so much time in a day to game, and they'll spend thier time playing a competitors game. I love Xbox too, but there is a bigger play. You don't reach 3 billion gamers by cutting 250 million potential buyers out of your ecosystem. Microsoft is one of the biggest capitalist companies in the world. They make moves for money. Shareholders demand it.

Not to mention if true, it would definitely help squash any regulator arguments for any future acquisitions. Microsoft: "Hey, look Mr. Regulator, we put some games on other platforms." Should they have to do that in order to sway them? Absolutely not! Of course, that isn't the world we live in. Maybe if there were more level-headed and reasonable regulators then it wouldn't be up for conversation.

To those saying "More people get to experience these games" Yeah. And when that happens, more people just DON'T buy an Xbox to play them. And then More Xboxes are on shelves instead of homes. And then third party games don't make enough money on the Xbox platform. And then Xbox ceases to exist because there's no reason to draw anyone in. And then Gamepass is all that's left, which is now charging way more because Gamepass has to now cover all the revenue streams blocked by Xbox not existing. Every industry, and I mean EVERY industry has exclusive content for each competitor so they can stay competitive. HBO has GOT, Netflix has Crown, Hulu has Handmaid's tale and Pramount Plus has Halo. If you want to watch GOT, you NEED to get HBO. If you're a huge fan of Twisted Metal, you NEED Peacock. There is NO service or platform that successfully exists without exclusives. You don't buy an xbox if there isn't a reason to buy an xbox.

But Microsoft can take the hit since they have the bank account for it. They're just now starting to bleed a bit and that's why we're seeing this change.

I've been buying multiple consoles since the Playstation 1 / Sega Saturn / Nintendo 64 generation and I've bought OG Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One while also owning Playstation 2, 3, 4 and Nintendo Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, Switch. This generation is the first gen I did NOT buy multiple systems, I only bought the Playstation 5 but I did NOT buy the Xbox Series X /S. Why? 2020: Xbox Series launches with ZERO console exclusives (I don't care about PC,I only look at consoles). 2021: they get only ONE console exclusive: Microsoft Flight Simulator and while I like multiple genres, flight simulators aren't my cup of tea. They did have The Medium as an exclusive for a short few months it's a great horror game, but I quickly found out it was also going to Playstation 5 when the physical copies released. 2022: ZERO console exclusives from Xbox Series... NOTHING!! The closes thing was Scorn (which is a terrible game) and like The Medium, it was only exclusive for a short few months before I found out it was also going to Playstation 5 once the physical copies released. Meanwhile, Playstation 5 is getting exclusives (Astro's Playroom, Ratchet & Clank, etc, etc) and timed exclusives for a FULL year like Deathloop, etc, etc. Playstation 5 is getting all of these exclusives while Xbox Series X / S only had Microsoft Flight Simulator and nothing else. To me, that was a HUGE RED FLAG Damn.. Even as early as the launch where Xbox Series X / S launched with NO exclusives while Playstation 5 launched with exclusives like Astro's Playroom, Demon's Souls Remake, and a timed exclusive called Godfall. In all my years buying consoles, this was the FIRST time I had seen a console launch with ZERO exclusives. Again, that's a RED FLAG. 2023: Okay, the Xbox Series X / S FINALLY starts getting console exclusives. Hi-Fi Rush... GREAT!! Redfall... NOT great (I played some of it at a friend's house. The solo play is extremely difficult, even on the lowest difficulty, while multiplayer is extremely easy. They need to fix the difficulty settings) and Starfield (I like it. Yeah, I know some hate the game, but I think it's good) and 2023 Forza Motorsport (awesome racing game, better than Gran Turismo 7). Okay, I'm impressed, but I'm not buying the console till Fable 4 releases (I'm not taking any chances if they pull another Fable Legends style cancellation on Fable 4 at the last minute). So now it's 2024 and they want to give HiFi Rush to their competition?!?!? And now Fable 4 might be delayed to 2025?!? I'm sorry, I can't justify spending $500 on a Xbox Series X (or $300 on a Xbox Series S) when one of their best console exclusives might be coming to a console I already own (Playstation 5) and I'm hearing rumors of other Xbox Series games going multi-plat and the Fable 4 (which is a game I want, I like the Fable series) has a high chance of being delayed to 2025... especially if those rumors are true that a new Xbox console will launch during 2026 and it will be backwards compatible. In conclusion: I can't justify spending money on a Xbox Series X / S if this is the way they are treating it. Anyway, sorry for the long novel sized rant, but this is all a bit frustrating as someone who normally buys EVERY console available and this is the first time I can't justify spending money on one of the major consoles (I will get a Switch 2 when that releases since I know it will have exclusives and I will be keeping my Playstation 5 as my main console for this year, but I can't justify spending money on a Xbox Series X / S if my Playstation 5 can do most of what it already does and the PS5 has it's own exclusives. Phil has repeatedly said he wants Xbox games on any platform that has Gamepass. It's NOT mixed messaging, it's people intentionally creating FUD and spreading misinformation and you all fall for it every time. Phil and Xbox shouldn't be required to respond to every fake Twitter Outrage and negative rumor. Who is to say there isn't a deal with Nintendo to put a customized version of Gamepass on Nintendo's next console? Nintendo has been trying to get into the subscription game with their back catalog, but don't have the infrastructure to do it. I can easily see Xbox helping Nintendo create a white label version of GP that Nintendo controls. Like Nvidia's Gamepass. I HATE when people say "Where there's Smoke" to say something must be true. Where there's "Smoke" is usually people regurgitating the SAME unverified lies and bs to the point where it becomes "fact". Just like last week's Jan Direct RUMORS. Everything Grubb said is couched with "May be, considering, thinking about...." Yet we're supposed to take that as "gospel" and "facts"? I don't really understand the big deal about this if true. HiFi is a small game that has likely seen the bulk of its popularity on Game Pass come and go. It's not a system selling game and it's not like anyone would need an Xbox to play it anyways. When the console was the big push I could almost understand, but it's not anymore. Microsoft has made that apparent. So if you can't get them to sub to Game Pass to play it, sell it full price on the other consoles and see if they play it.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned on the show or not. However, if Hi-fi is released on Switch and it got a lot of attention and sales, it was a way to get those players wanting more, or addicted. Then Microsoft makes a sequel and keeps that 100% exclusive, forcing those players to get GP or buy it on Xbox or PC. I'm not saying that is the best way to accomplish attracting players. It's just a thought.

To be honest....this doesn't bother me at all and if I was sony I would do the same there is probably a lot of money being left on the table. From xbox perspective maybe this is a long game play that has nothing to do with making short term money gain. They may be trying to figure the analytics from a purely financial aspect or maybe this can be used as point to be made further down the road when it comes down to litigation or what not. I feel like early on Xbox said they wanted GP on all devices. Then reports came that Nintendo & Sony rejected it and the new messaging was "no plans" to launch on rival consoles. Maybe putting some games on rivals is best they can do for now until GP becomes more attractive. Either way it seems like Grubb was right in saying Hi-Fi underperformed.

Honestly I watch you guys often. If you're that upset about it(which I agree). Unsub from Gamepass. Soon as these things happen. I have all of the big 3 & I intend to keep playing them. But DON'T GIVE MICROSOFT/XB money on A month to month/yearly bases(there is no telling what they will do..ever.. Even if they say it) That will be over. I think like the big factor is that gamepass growth has been stagnant in the past year, even Starfield didn’t move the needle so Microsoft is looking at new avenues of revenue.

I don't understand console warring from gamers and this weird, silly, ?selfish? need to keep people who bought a different plastic box from playing a game. I only understand exclusivity from a business perspective and benefitting me personally. Playstation/Nintendo players getting a select few 'GP' games 1/2 years after launch doesn't hurt me in anyway. In fact having those gamers fund GP in a way that will hopefully keep my costs down and hopefully increase GP value seems like a win to me. From a business perspective you are literally letting those gamers PAY for a $70 advert of GP value, as well as bumping up that bottom line. Why does any of this bother anyone except the most stuck in the last decade console twatter warriors? Also if MS wants to buy more big Pubs and truly own the exclusives scene then they have to play nice and share a few of them, we don't want to see competitors destroyed and the FTC is watching.

Told you guys xbox wants to go third party. The problem is that xbox is not upfront with their goals. They are taking the loyal fans for a ride, and thats kind of wrong. Even stranger is that the games are likely to show up on ps5. Does this mean gamepass on ps5? After all phil did mention that the games would appear on platforms that have gamepass. Or will they simply release without the gamepass app? People wouldnt trust phil after that.

I think the people that are gonna suffer the most isn't Xbox loyalist it's Tango Gameworks. They shouldn't b able to make more money by having more eyes on their game? I'd b more concerned if a Halo or gears went to PS or nintendo than HI Fi rush

I see this RUMOR thing a different way… MS is playing long ball…with the FTC renewing their fight Xbox is showing their not locking down any games which shows Sony in fact not only is doing it they’re also lying. This will make it easier for Xbox to go buy more studios. Also, Sony still has to pay for these games though they’re broke…Xbox will own them or run them out of funds. Death knell.

Yeah if they go on to put their games everywhere, I will sell my black X and Halo X immediately. No need if I can just play it on PlayStation. If it is just going to switch only any game they make then I will keep my boxes 😂

I appreciate you Boom, but I disagree. I wish we as Xbox fan would stop doing this "Woe is Xbox!" everytime a rumor comes out. It's embarrassing and we are better than this.

It doesn’t seem so unsubstantiated, it’s coming from the same places as the Kojima is working with Xbox rumors. There’s alot of smoke for there to be no fire.

@@Jones25ful No official statement from Xbox, no concrete evidence. The rumors are unsubstantiated. The KZreadrs justification is a bed of other foolish rumors. Some of these guys put out a disclaimer, "I know it's a rumor," then launch into a doomsday rant as if Xbox has come out and announced it. The conclusion that if one game is released on other platforms then any game could be is so illogical I don't know where to begin.

With all due respect to Boom the idea of Banjo Kazooie being made by Nintendo is such a stupid idea, in fact Nintendo wins and screws Xbox big time, Banjo Kazooie is owned by Xbox not Nintendo, so you are telling me that just because the Nintendo devs get to create Banjo Kazooie all of sudden it's great?! fuck that! It has to be a Nintendo first party like Bayonetta, Zelda, Mario, Splatoon or whatever the hell Nintendo has.

The issue is xbots are very emotional, hifi rush lost money and did not sell/make money . All Microsoft wants to do is to release it on the competitors console to make the game make the money back. That's all

​@@Shaker1000theres no article bc xbox refuses to discuss numbers outside of revenue. Jeff grubb did say that insiders at xbox told him that hi fi rush was a disappointment for xbox related to expectations. It underperformed.

I do not really play my Xbox anymore but that is a me thing as I dislike everything they have done over the years. Please give me a reason to get rid of them Xboxes 😂

This is Hi Fi Rush? First time seeing it and it looks like a low budget indie game. And not even the good one like Sea of Stars or Chained Echoes. Even Eiyuden Chronicle looks a lot more interesting than this "critically acclaimed" game.
