    I'm glad Parris talked about geographic proximity to the actual servers affecting the experience. That has a huge impact on latency, in addition to Internet infrastructure.

    Great timing for this episode! Xcloud on my Aussie NBN network was awful a year ago, but trying it out again this week on Series X via wifi with Forza Horizon 5, it's almost flawless, albeit with a lower-than-native-4K resolution. I cleared the entire HotWheels mission sets in the global top 0.26% (diamond achievement) with zero noticeable lag, dropouts, etc. Whatever they fixed, it's working 👍👍

    Due to horrid circumstances, I found myself away from home for 3 months early in 2022. I was somewhere with pretty great Wi-Fi and played Xbox on my Android using the Razer controller. Sometimes for hours. And it worked amazingly well. Everything from slower games like The Good Life and Pedestrian to faster games like Nier Automata and Into The Pit. Can't recommend it highly enough. Nowadays, my kiddo is old enough to have her own phone and she prefers to play Little Kitty, Big City and Forza Horizon 5 on there compared to her console.

    I've only used Xbox cloud gaming a handful of times, though I was playing at my house. I used it to play games I didn't want to wait to download because I was only trying it out or doing it to complete an Xbox Reward quest. I played Elder Scrolls Online, Party Animal, Forza, and Watchdog 2 through cloud. I was quite impressed, there was slight latency, but the games were completely playable and doing it through cloud was a convenient way to play.

    Loved the family theme. I remember that my little brother (13 yr old now) got into gaming because of me, and it's been fun watching him kinda "blossom" into games, and watching what he likes to play, and it's such a warm feeling. Even though I live in another country at the moment, my mum tells me that he wants do do stuff that I do, that he looks up to me. And he sometimes texts me on discord about games

    I'm jealous of anyone having an 8/10 experience with Xbox cloud gaming. Even with gig-speed internet it's waaay too janky to use for me. On my phone it's super laggy and graphics quality regularly dips. Playing through my Series X on a hard-wired connection the lag is acceptable but the graphics quality still dips too much. But the biggest issue for me is that it seems like every time I try to play there's a 5-15 minute queue just to start the game. It's faster for me to install the game at that point!

    Parris says that you can only be wireless n not hard wired on a Firestick... Kind of, but not really. There are adaptors for ethernet cables. I got the upgraded version of a Firestick with a Amazon Fire TV Cube a while back. I got multiple of them to stream apps that have every TV show and movie for free on them. They include the ethernet adapters with them. I know it is only the Firestick new 4k version that gets the Xbox Cloud app, and not the old Firestick that everyone has. And I am curious if it will be available for the Fire TV Cube, seeing as those are much more powerful than the Firestick... I'll check that out later

    The trouble with cloud is everyone has a different experience. Based on location, based on your WiFi hardware and network, based on many other factors. We also all feel latency differently. Factor in everything and that means for some it’s fine and others it’s possibly unplayable.

  • @picto3

    Do they have any plans to bring Xbox app to chromecast 4k devices. I would assume you could get all the same apps you do on your phone but its not there. I have had Firesticks in the past but had issues. Chromecast just works so much better and much nicer now that they have a controller

  • @jeffcarrier9808
    @jeffcarrier980812 күн бұрын

    Another thing about latency is that most "good" solutions have Ethernet to the device you are streaming to. Stadia for example was only great for latency while the Chromecast/PC was wired, but it was latent while over wifi. This Amazon Fire Stick I assume has no solution to be wired... Samsung gaming TV was likely wired during that demo.

    "Is cloud gaming the way to play in 2024?" Stadia was my WAY to play for 2 full years from late 2019 to late 2021. If Google would have actually succeeded well enough that it would have gotten hardware upgrade when expected (2021-2022) and be perhaps more powerful than PS5 right now, I never would have stopped using it and never looked back. At the time Stadia was a HUGE upgrade from base PS4.

    I am lucky. I live in the metro NYC area and I am 3ms away from An Azure Server and have gig internet. I rarely have any glitches/hitches or macro blocking. I forget I’m even streaming most of the time. Also, I have a lot of friends who I showed XCG and they don’t even own a console and they are satisfied.

    Parris says that GeForce Now is a Pay For service... And that is 90% right. GeForce does have a Free Tier. The Free Tier is not using the 4080's like the Premium Tier does.... AND the Free Tier only gives you a 1 hour stream of free gaming, then boots you. The premium tier gives you 6 or 8 hours of streaming straight each day.

  • @OtaconAutobahn
    @OtaconAutobahn14 күн бұрын

    Semi-informed person here - in addition to proximity to data centers, the extra latency for some streaming servers is mostly caused by how powerful the underlying hardware is. Typically, services that use gaming PCs (Geforce now, Luna) have lower latency than Xbox because they use gaming pcs - Xbox only uses Xboxes. Believe it or not, this makes a huge difference.

  • @AlphaFiction

    If you have a good internet connection and are semi close to the servers, you are golden. With that being said, if you play sports games like mlb the show, those become troublesome as the latency greatly impacts the gameplay.

    My experience of cloud gaming services is similar to Parris. I’ve tried Stadia (played it a lot), Xbox cloud gaming and GeForce now. By far the is GFN, it’s been absolutely incredible with no delay that I’ve felt at all. Stadia was also really good. And sadly Xbox had noticeable delay. It’s unfortunate to hear that it’s still the same.

    Love the dad talk too. Mario Kart is great for any kid that can just hit the gas and go as they have bumpers and an option to always go forward. My kiddo is about Roblox and Minecraft. He has been getting bored with it. We play Star wars battlefront 2 split screen with all the different settings you can just always be what you want. Minecraft dungeons to train your to be Diablo player. He also likes to play wwe2k24. Do some triple threat and team up on the CPU. He is almost 6 so it's awesome to see him grow. Sports games still a little too complicated. Then my 2 year old with down syndrome not quite there but does hold the controller. And when the clap in Mario wonder after you complete a level he is always clapping . It's great. Astro Bot looks like something for the whole family as both my boys lit up when they saw that game. Love all the content

    PS Remote play is nice where you can play your games installed to your PS5. But I hate the controller support and third party apps do it better. My razer kishi works on every except the PlayStation app. Gamepass is really good when I have a stable connection and I have their entire library without needing to install. And controller support for gamepass is great. But being at a hotel or on my mobile network streaming has not been great. It's hit or miss. I am here in Minnesota. I prefer local install on my PC or Rog Ally and that is my best gamepass experience.

    I would argue Paris should’ve known that playing most of those games he mentioned in the cloud would have delay. You’re playing a fast twitch MP game. You can’t seriously think that you’re going to get 1:1 console gameplay. That ain’t happening when you play in the cloud it would be best to play a single player game. That’s a bit laid-back then you can get the full experience and you probably won’t notice the lag as much but when you’re trying to play against someone who has a hardwired ethernet connection and you’re playing on the cloud, you should get annihilated

    For me, xcloud has always been the worst with lag. You assume with it being Microsoft they would be the best, but I’ve always had the most lag with xcloud. I’m not a big cloud gaming fan but man, remote play is awesome. Using moonlight to stream from GeForce experience to stream deck is magic. Lag is basically nonexistent.
