Xaphoon Pocket Sax Demo Lesson #2: Playing a Scale

Музыка

Having mastered the mouth position, we now move on to familiarizing our fingers with the holes on the Xaphoon Pocket Sax. Since there are only nine holes, and most people have ten fingers, this is relatively simple. Don't forget to close your eyes while doing the exercises to make it easier to concentrate on the feeling in your fingers.

L'Utente Medio & AlanSturgess -- Since he hasn't posted another video in 7 years, I think it's fair to assume that sadly the xaphman is probably no longer with us. I also wished for those additional lessons and I'm sure he fully intended to give them to us.

I think he's not dead, over on the channel Ukelele Mania he seems to be still there, at least someone with the same type of Hawaiian shirt and the same pendent (though he doesn't show his face).

@@Brianbeesandbikes the plastic xaphoon is in the tune of F major = d minor. However, the tone range spans from C to C (2 octaves). Since it is chromatic, you can play any scale on it.

Thank you for placing lessons for playing the xaphoon. I have had one for several years, but could not find where to get lessons. I was disappointed to see that you stopped at only 2 lessons. I hope that you find the time to continue with the lessons. Again, thank you for posting. You are a great teacher!

Just received mine in the mail today, you videos are excellent for making my first sounds, thanks for posting them! question though, on the saxophone you left hand is closer to the mouth piece, but in your video you have your right over your left. Is the that the correct way to hold the instrument or is that just a mater of personal preference?

It seems your right hand is at the top (closest to your mouth) of the Xaphoon and left hand lower. Everyone else on You Tube has their hands reversed (left on top). Looking at your shirt I realized the buttons are on the wrong side (for a man's shirt) so your image is reversed. This makes it appear your right hand is on top when in actuality it is your left (like everyone else).

+HWPcville Same in all his uploads - including those for ukulele. If you look at those, he's fretting with his right and fingering with his left. The uke itself has NOT been strung for a leftie.

A very important-seeming observation: about the mirror imaging. There was a comment below Video #1 which mentioned that the Chinese characters in the background were reversed, and that commenter said that the wall hanging was hung backwards; but if it is the case that the whole damn video is reversed, the appearance of that wall hanging would make sense. Also, I think I’m remembering seeing that the dished-out portions of the xaphoon body beside the holes did align with the lay of the man’s fingers, … and so I would take that as further evidence that the video itself is backwards on the screen. I could, therefore, observe the iPad in a mirror and get it all the right way around, eh?
