Good guide! I just wanted to point out, that the "Trade for commander" used with mining ships is not JUST selling. The miners will also be able to pull minerals from other stations within range if there is a buy order on those minerals. This is a good way to supply your factories automatically.

Keep in mind that most factories will not sell raw resources though, this mostly only works with your own stations.

The ins and outs of the ship order system are a big source of frustration for new people.

No kidding! Took me HOURS to troubleshoot my station traders. They needed to be selling my silicone wafers, but the manager would to default to Metallic Microlattice and Silicone carbide. I was confused because I don't make those things at all! Turns out, I had my station set to replenish drones!! And the trader was attempting to fill these orders only to fail at autotrading. I turned off drone replinishment and suddenly everything worked like a charm. Don't even get me started on trades rules...

THIS is the video I've been searching for! Thank you so much! Others were giving just parts of what was needed but leaving some very important information out. Now I understand why they are saying to place satellites and explaining what each level of experience does helps me understand how my miners will behave now. Again, Thank you! I am brand new to the x games coming in at X4 6.2 Kingdoms end. I started with Young Guns as several videos I watched said that is a good place for beginners to start. This is so helpful!

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for making updated 6.0 guides for even the basics. I just came back to X4 after spending time during the Split expansion, and because of the new Venture/Multiverse announcement, I now have to figure out how to play the base game without mods making it easy. So even little tricks like "assigning no-skill miners to a mining station to get 1-star automining" is a great assistance.

At 11:45 you mention that the resource probe does not detect any minerals. I used to think the same when the resource probe does not display the yields, but this is incorrect. It simply does not display the yields if the right infopane is open and there isn't room for the window to appear without overlapping.

Thanks alot for the video. Just a hint here. At some places you go on a tangent or steer slightly off topic. For example in the middle of the video you mention how you figure everybody who is currently watching the video should've watched the video about menuing previously. I think it would be better to preface this information at the very beginning of the video. This way, those who haven't seen the "prerequisite" yet, can be directly redirected there. Additionally, you don't disrupt the flow of the video so much, by going on a tangent.

When it comes to "defending" your miners, there is another option: running away. You can set the automatic behaviour of your ships in the right-most tab of their info screen. Sorry, I can't remember the name of the menu right now. Anyway, that screen has a list of things they can encounter (under attack, found a lockbox, police, pirate harassment, etc.) where you can set their automatic response to these things. For miners, traders and other civilian ships it is best to set their response to "escape" for attacks and pirates. You should always fit your civilian ships with combat engines for no/short travel speed charging. Combined with the automated escape from above, this should allow your miners to run away and live to mine another day. A global order with travel restrictions prohibiting civilian ships from entering enemy sectors will also help.

Great video! I spent an awful lot of time figuring a lot of this out on my own. No regrets. It was fun. I do have a recommendation though! It sounds tedious, but could you add book makers/chapters to your videos so that we can easily find where things are in the videos? I'm sorry if it sounds tedious.

M ship are underrated, the traders can can make a run for it with lv3 combat engines so they get mugged for goods far less . Didn't know there were XL miners though, I'll have to look at the storage more closely next time I'm on.

Good vid. Your guides are always helpful. I’ve always struggled with the X series. Love it, but I’m too challenged in the old grey matter department. So I’ve tended to get by just dealing with what’s right in front of me and the result is that I can sort of play this guitar… but I only know a few tunes… and one of my strings is broken. But anyway….. are you saying that I put a satellite by each gate and one in the middle-ish and I’m golden?

Great update on mining! Could you also advice on what risky but profitable sectors there are for mining minerals? (I have all DLCs, but always went for Segaris as unga-bunga, have-all solution) Another thing, a year ago medium miners were the best, as they are filled in one-go. But couple of months ago the update brought a "waste-time-thinking" mechanic, which is defaulted to 300seconds, so medium miners mostly sit there doing nothing. I think I saw an option to reduce it when you expand on the ship's command-logic, but I didn't find it anywhere else (like global orders)

Does this only work with one type of solid? I have the same exact setup you do except I have two offers for ore and silicon. My miners all have "Failed Orders: AutoMine No buyers found in allowed sectors"

I can't seem to find any info anywhere to confirm whether or not satellites update distant trade offers from passing ships. Is that really true? Because if so I could just set up satellites at jump gates and not have to blanket the entire sector with them.

good guide indeed for a total novice like me. my problem is that noone wants to by from my station. did the same thing as you did but I guess there must be some check somewhere which says, "come here you can buy now" which you habe active but might be so trivial you can easily overlook it?

@@TheRuggedGamer yeah, i have both, a luxury boron dock and a manager. only thing what happens is the storage gets full and the station cost go up to compensate for the extrem low sale price I guess which the minerals have because of the full storage. but no traders docking , so I guess I am missing a little detail

Yep, make them a fleet and have the 2 guard ships defend commander

Do you need a buy offer for the miners?

I built my mining outpost near refined goods complex, with two miners attached to it ('mine for commanders assignment') and additional logical overview to buy only from my ships, and sell offer to sell all but 1. Currently, I have 3M 6S basic dock area, 1L liquid, 1L solid. At first, the two miners were collecting ores and storing 'em back as intended, but after awhile they stopped, I saw from their info tab that they have 'failed orders and no matching trade order found'. Also, been running the game for several hours and my outpost still haven't sold anything yet. I'm quite confused lol😅, any explanation would certainly help a lot, thanks :-)

A very late response but they probably "failed" due to the storage of the station being full. If nothing is being sold at least two things might have tripped you up. What I would try is attaching a miner to the station with the order "trade for commander", alternative if you got the cash, building a refinery/silicon wafer and get a courier instead to trade. It's more expensive to set up but also more compact to ship. Might want to consider removing the buy offer on the ore/silicon though. The other thing to test is to unselect the option "automatic prize" for the ware (making sure it's the sell option) and lower it a bit. Might be too many sellers in the area driving down the price. I hope that you figured it out long ago but if nothing else perhaps this can help someone else.

I must be missing something. how does the relay station work? just put a trade or mining ship to the trade for station with a restriction for faction only?

It may be "claimed" but having a hard time. Best bet is a quick restart and it should break it. Or manually override them so they move away and then they should go back to normal. The AI can do funky shit sometimes

My mining ships are just clustered in on spot and doing nothing dunno what to do

I think they are not advanced enough to know where to sell it so you have to guide/direct where to drop off or sell

great videos! But i got a wierd problem, I build the mining station but all my miners have failed orders saying no matching trade offer found. Anybody an idea what i'm doing wrong? my station has solid storage; storage module; dock; is in asteroid belt, normal automine works perfect, i have no clue wat's going on. I set the station for ore and silicon like he did in the video.

Also, it will fail if its set to buy/sell if youve nothing in storage yet. Ensure you have miners set to mine for commander

The changes to mining with the need for probes is what made me stop plying the game, that and the nerf to crystal mining.

The learning curve is a big steep, but it does get good after you start understanding the UI and AI of the game. One comparison I've heard of how the UI is broken down is that it's more like Linux than like Windows. There seem to be multiple ways to do things and they aren't intuitive to begin with. When you start to remember what is what, you'll be fine. I have kinda intense ADD and I'm getting there, with the help of guys like the Rugged Gamer and other X4 Guide producers. I guess I'll stop and just say have a good day and good profitsssss.

​@@xantishayde-walker4593as with Linux, it's user-friendly but very picky with it's friends 😉 But more seriously, this game would be much easier to get into if there were more mouse over texts, and more explanations in the encyclopedia. Fleet commands is the one I have struggled the most with. The difference between attack, intercept and attack. I just want my ships not doing suicide runs.
