This was my favorite X-men cartoon story line. I love how they got the older cast from the first round of X-men films to mesh with the younger cast all in one film.

Dude i remember when the cartoon aired here in australia - no joke, 100% serious the show was so popular here that it actually transitioned from being saturday morning cartoons to saturday evening prime-time entertainment at like 6.30pm and yeah this was during like s3 and s4 when they had like Days of future Past and Age of Apocalypse story lines, and i think it was when they introduced the phalanx?? can't quite remember that might have been earlier with the Shi'ar empire story line though.

The storyline actually originated in the comic books. It's only 2 issues and a fantastic story. The X-MEN cartoon adaptation is also pretty good despite the changes.

I'm a little lost on how that is a great quote. It's a bit "captain obvious" to me. Every human who has ever lived has gotten lost one way or another and had to find there way back. It's called life. When is the last time you were driving somewhere and made a wrong turn and thought "FUUGG!! That's it. My life's over!!" 😂😂

Beast isn't usually like the Hulk. Only in this movie when he is using the serum can he change back and forth. Later on he is the blue all the time and can't change back.

Patrick Stewart gets some amazing quotes in this movie and he always delivers them so well. But we expect this after Star Trek. "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not weakness; that is life."

To comic fans who know Bishop's powers, the way the Sentinels kill him is pretty horrifying. He absorbs certain kinds of energy and stores or shoot it back out (like Sebastian Shaw's power but with different types of energy). So the Sentinels destroy him by overloading him before he can release it.

Like Darwin in First Class, except probably a lot more painful because Sentinels are ridiculous. Random speculation: like the destructive force of Shaw with a few nukes, concentrated into such a small space that the laws of physics in that spot are temporarily disrupted and Bishop's suffering lasts far longer in his perception than it appears to the observer. You're welcome for that mental image....

"When he gets angry he turns into the beast" - not in the comics. Originally he looked like a human but with an apelike physique, which gave him great strength and agility (and possibly prehensile toes). The blue form came later and gave him additional powers such as sharper senses and catlike claw and fangs. "I'm gonna fall for it every time" - everybody always does. "What if JFK and Elvis are both mutants" - to quote Agent K in Men in Black (Tommy Lee Jones) : "Elvis is not dead, he just went home".

Fun fact. JFK could read 1200 words per minute. The average person is about 200. Yeah he's a mutant

Based off of history, I would make the claim that JFK had a charisma mutation that predisposed people to like and trust him if he was visible and for it to have lingering effects. I read somewhere that during his 1960 debate with Nixon, people that watched it on television felt that JFK ran roughshod over a sweaty, desperate, Tricky Dick. However, people that listened to it over the radio felt that Nixon had done better. Also, people that saw JFK on television talking to the public felt more reassured and safe than if the news just repeated his words. Mutation for something related to charisma/likeability on a visual basis was my first thought when Erik said JFK was a mutant, and I've never changed it.

I remember seeing this in the theater and the Quicksilver scene had everyone cheering like crazy.

Air Xavier IS a better name.

The character in the end credits scene is known by the name the people were chanting: En Sabah-Nur. It means 'The First One'. The Four Horsemen on the hill belong to him. The are his heralds and soldiers. His name in modern times . . . is Apocalypse.

Ashley falling for Mystique's disguises over and over just tickles me

Of all the X-Men movies released, Day of Future Past is the most engaging and best one I have seen. It has an epic X-Men concept (inspired by the literary classic) and fine execution by the creative team on making time travel and crossovers (between Hugh Jackman and the newest X-Men actors) work on-screen. I own a Blu-ray copy of this movie. Back in 2014, I saw X-Men: Days of Future Past three times in the cinemas!

I half agree with you, the other half remembers X2. What they did back then before CGI got great was unreal. That franchise and Spider-Man made MARVEL studios happen. Iron Man 1 is closer in world building to X2 than anything that came even 5 years later.

They made it weird though by giving Kitty time travel powers out of nowhere (yes, I know the comic book reason for that decision). Apparently, she just sat there for several days w/o going to the bathroom.

Great reaction Ashleigh! 👍 your face when you heard the JFK mutant lore😂. I had the dame expression when I first saw this too.

Professor X's return had been shown in the end credits of that same movie when the hitherto alive but brain dead body moved, indicating that Xavier had transferred his consciousness to it.

Lol I can't believe you said "That's awful" at Scott being alive 😂. I get that he was underwritten in the films but I love Scott, and Scott and Jean (even without having read the comics where most of their epicness comes from), so I was very happy. I love Logan of course but I never got his and Jean's "love." It only ever felt like a physical attraction. I really love that your favorite character is Mystique and I love how you always say Magneto left her "nakey and afraid"!

The most interesting thing about X-Men, that the real love interest of Logan is Storm. They often end up in relationships and their relationships goes well. )

So, yes, Xavier died in X-Men 3: The Last Stand. He also *CAME BACK* in X-Men 3: The Last Stabd's post-credit sequence, which you sadly skipped. 😅 Basically, he transferred his mind into the body of another person (which, while it is nit explicitly said, was his twin brother or something)

the person he put himself into was not a twin but was a mutant thats ... mutant ability was basicly "blank slate" .. he didnt have a mind and hes bodys ability was to adopt the ability of whoever inhabited hes mind.. or something along them lines, it was stated at somepoint in movie somewhere if memory serves me correct

@@SokaPup On the DVD Commentary, it is revealed that the body on Muir Island is someone named "P. Xavier." One of the writers noted that this character is Xavier's twin brother who was born brain-dead (due to Professor X's amount of power). Since P. Xavier was born brain-dead and stuck in a coma for a long time, Charles Xavier can't walk in his brother's body and uses his old wheelchair. The person they were talking about was some completely random person that was used to slick foreshadow Xavier coming back

The Quicksilver scene is my favorite scene in any of the X Men movies. And in the top five of all of the Marvel movies. Watching you always lifts my mood. Thanks for being so fun and sweet. 💜

They did look alike though. Bishop looks like he could be Heimdall's brother. Either way, it was cool to see Bishop in this, along with other X-men characters that I remember from the Saturday morning cartoons. I wish we had Jubilee and Gambit in this and I always wished they casted Rogue older like she was in the comics. Here being younger and crushing on Wolverine was always weird to me. She was an adult in the comics so I don't know why they made her younger in the movies.

@@lirpa2300 in the movies, Rogue was basically an amalgamation of Kitty, Rogue, and Jubilee...which is weird considering Kitty and Jubilee are in the movies too (Kitty is played by a different actor in the first movie, and Jubilee is mostly in the background, also played by different actors in each film)

The bearded Black guy is Bishop, who can absorb energy and redirect it (usually, thorough his weapons; Warpath is an Apache with enhanced physical abilities; the firey guy is Sunfire, and the one opening portals is Blink.

So the X-Men timeline can be a little confusing as there was no plan for it, but here is the breakdown of basically three timelines. The first consists of: Origins Wolverine, First Class, The trilogy, The Wolverine, Days of Future Past Then with this film that first timeline no longer exists so now the timeline is: First Class, Days of Future Past, Two films you have yet to see- Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix, The Deadpool films, Days of Future Past, New Mutants, Then the film Logan is on it's own standalone timeline,

In the comics, scot was a much bigger character, but Logan became popular and was further developed with his own stories. They've really done that character dirty

I forgot how brutal that Magneto vs Wolverine scene was. Magneto is a real price of work. Imagine how much better the world would have been if Eric had been a little less screwed up and he and Charles had been able to work together.

@@Ickshter2112 Everyone has death in their families, but that does not excuse killing and maiming others. Magneto has more evil than good in his heart, that's all it is. He did the same things to others that were done to his family. As far as the real WW2 holocaust the Jewish deaths were a fraction of the people killed in that war, however, those 10s of millions of "other" deaths are hardly mentioned. I am sure that has nothing to do with the people that currently control Hollywood narratives.

If I was younger, Charles meeting older Charles I probably would have screamed "My hair! what happened to my luscious locks of hair?"

It wasn't so much for Fox to course correct their wonky timeline, it was more of a way to reboot the franchise so they could tell stories with the newer cast without having to keep trying to have it line up with the original trilogy. It was also a way to be able to give the original cast a send off and have them leave on a more uplifting note than they had in Last Stand.

The actor who plays Bobbie has an Identical twin who is also an actor. He was in one of my favorite shows Warehouse 13 starting in season 2.

This is one of my favorite X-Men movies of all time. The Rogue Cut is actually my favorite because we got a few more Rogue scenes. I highly recommend it. Jennifer Lawrence is so good in this one. Probably her best performance as Mystique, emotionally and action wise.

@CMinorOp67 I agree with the JL assessment. She was okay as Mystique but her portrayal of the character got more annoying and overhyped with each movie. Her powers outside of shape shifting are mediocre and the movies tried so desperately to make her a bigger character and put her at the level, leadership role and even importance of Prof X and Magneto that it was laughable and the writers only did it because JL was a popular actress during this time. Mystique being the "chosen one" out of all the mutants for the Sentinel program was just a plot point to make her character aka JL relevant in this series.

Scott Summers and Jean Grey are the canonical couple from the X-Men comics, Ashleigh. Days of Future Past was intended to correct the mistakes made by the original trilogy so now Scott and Jean's story can be told over the next two X-Men films, Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix, because many fans felt that Scott and his relationship with Jean was done wrong in the original trilogy.

This was the best of the X-Men movies in my opinion. It was a great story and brought the 2 different versions of the team together in such a great way. And you were right, they definitely did this to correct some of the timeline issues of the previous movies.

The original comic book story Days of Future Past showed a very dark future for mutants who weren’t free or had been interred. For example, X-Men character Kitty Pryde is shown grieving the loss of her children that she was never allowed to have. The government of the future essentially enforced some rather draconian policies to prevent mutants from procreating.

Very true-l remember reading that series of X-Men comic books.

In the comics at one point They lived on an Island and the floor plan where they stayed Jean, Scott and Logan's rooms attached to each others where no one else's did.

I love how this movie is meant to correct the timeline mess only for Singer to immediately start screwing it up again at the end with the Stryker/Mystique reveal.

Wolverine was the only one that could take the bullets in that on scene. But he was the only one that told Quicksilver thanks...

Chronologically speaking, every movie up to this point of the franchise (this includes Origins Wolverine), Days of Future Past completely resets the universe's timeline of events because of Wolverine's involvement in a past where he originally didn't have any kind of involvement with Charles, Erik, Hank, etc. If you were to watch the movies chronologically, this movie would essentially come after "Wolverine", and the X-Men side story "The New Mutants."

Him killing his father when he was a kid and fighting in every war with Sabertooth all happened before First Class. The Vietnam war scene at the end occured at the same time as Days of Future Past (although, i'm confused at how Wolverine could be in New York and in Vietnam at the same time.) Wolverine's cameos in Deadpool 2 and Apocalypse told us that he still met Stryker, joined Team X, and volunteered for the weapon X experiment. The rest of the movie does get altered when Cyclops's story in Apocalypse is different from the one in Origins and the Wolverine vs. Deadpool fight scene is erased.

I teared up a little bit when future Charles connected with his past self.

I remember when this is was released in the comic book series back in '81', I had a huge comic book collection, mostly X-men and the individual character spin-offs. It was also in the animated series that ran in the mid-80's, I own copies of the series. So, no, they didn't create this to correct the movie timeline. Anyway, loved the review, love you and tell Beans hi 👋

The wing was the girl that had the fly wings in Xmen first class who we see in the autopsy reports. In the autopsy reports we also see Azazel who was the red demon guy in First Class that could teleport and is also Nightcrawlers father. Little trivia thing is that Nightcrawler is the son of Mystique and Azazel.

If you paid attention to the beginning of X-Men the last stand. When Xavier told his students about the man in the film who was born without higher brain function. That was his twin brother. He transferred his own consciousness to him. Just as he mentioned in class. Remember the end credits scene, when Dr. McTaggart walked in to check the pulse he muttered "Moira" she gazed back in awe and said "Charles"

It was Shadowcat who goes back in time in Chris Claremont’s original comic book version of this story. But in the movies, Wolverine is obviously the cash cow. And if you go back and watch First Class, Wolverine says “Go fuck yourself.” Not “fuck off.” And as far as Chris Claremont, he cameos as the old man Mystique changes into during the crowd scene.

This is one of the most celebrated stories in the comic history. The original story came out in the 80s and has been changed with some different characters and the ending. I prefer the ending in the movie, rather the original. I believe most of the prior X-men movies were so they could do this story. I was there in the 80s when the comic story came out and we all dreamed that a movie could someday be made. Back then it really was a dream, because we couldn’t see how it could be done. The thought that people years later would remember it and make it a reality was too far fetched. It was just a comic book story after all. I am still amazed that it happened. I tribute to the people and art involved.

Great film overall. One of the few gems out of Fox's Marvel films.

15:22 Ashleigh's excitement over Evan Peters makes me like her even more, he's a brilliant actor. 18:06 One of the best scenes in any super-hero movie, and gotta love Jim Croce (who died young, the day before I was born). 20:21 I am 100% here for Conspiracy Ashleigh. 😂 35:24 Good call. 👍

The blue dude in the end-credits scene is APOCALYPSE! He's quite a nasty villain in his own way. And he appears in the following X-Men film, as the main antagonist. Which is quite a refreshing change from the usual "Magneto is the villain" trope that these X movies suffer from.

Xavier's quote is very similar to one I heard growing up Don't worry if you stumble and fall, the only thing that can't fall is a worm.

Ashleigh mentioning JFK and Elvis together is a hidden message to all of us that she's gonna be watching Bubba Ho-Tep for Hallobeans this year, right? Right?!

The very last part where Stryker was supposedly Mystique was the dumbest part. Like what’s the point of her even acting like him and getting Logan. It would have made so much more sense and better for the shorty if the real Stryker pulled Logan out of the water.

My theory is that Mystique disguised herself as Stryker to claim Wolverine’s body and delivered it to the real Stryker for some sort of deal (like destroying her DNA so it can't ever be used). It adds context to his line to her in Apocalypse about “knowing who she really is,” like they've had an encounter before. That's just my theory.

The post-credit scene really should have been an awkward conversation where Logan tells the other X-Men about the original timeline... Jean: "So Scott and I were dead in your time? Logan: "Yup." Scott: "Those damn Sentinels got us, huh?" Logan: "Um... Not exactly."

YES!! The best one in the series and also one of my favorites! Nominated for Best Visual Effects, making it the first and only X MEN movie to be nominated for an Oscar. It made over $700 million dollars against a $200 million dollar budget.

I love how she calls him "Quicksilver" but doesn't recognize the character as the same speedster from Avengers: Age of Ultron 😅 **edit** wait, she says "baby Wanda" so maybe she does recognize he's the same character! Just didn't come out in this edit I guess.

@@awkwardashleigh Pioter and Wanda are twins in the comics, yes. But since the MCU and the X-men movies were happening at the same time (different studios had different rights to characters) they had to do something to make this Quicksilver slightly different. So, Wanda is younger here.

Actually I'm not sure if the sister is wanda but they do say there's another sister early in the movie, telling the sister to go annoy her, I don't think she was shown

The little girl is Wanda and Peter's younger sister. Peter and Wanda are always twins, but Marvel had her rights, so they could not use her in this movie.

I love the Rouge cut because you have more scenes with Rouge in it. Mystique's time will have changed also so she may have never lost her powers.

I definitely wondered what was going on with Beans! You certainly said something in a previous video that made it seem like she was gone to a better place, which made her lack of presence in recent videos feel morose. But glad she's okay!!!!

In the comics Days of Future Past storyline, it was Kitty that went back, and that's why they involved her here despite going a completely different route with the scenario. Also in the comics, the X-Men had been fighting Sentinels for some time, and Days of Future Past had basically been a situation of asking what if the robots won. There, the Sentinels were led by a far more advanced Sentinel named Nimrod, which caused them to be far more effective (no power mimicry involved, I should say). One of the major deaths in the future in that storyline was actually Wolverine, who was vaporized by a Sentinel hand blast (in the comics, they shot blasts from their palms, not their faces), leaving just his adamantium skeleton intact. Interestingly, the counterpart to Days of Future Past, of a mutant-led apocalyptic future, was Age of Apocalypse, and the next movie is X-Men: Apocalypse. Granted, the movie has nothing to do with said comic event, besides the titular villain, but it's something to think about. It's not like Avengers: Age of Ultron had anything to do with the comics' Age of Ultron aside from the same villain either. Also, that end credits scene, it should be noted is showing Apocalypse. His real name is En Sabah Nur and in the comics he considers himself basically as far removed from mutants as mutants are removed from humanity (mutants are classified "homo superior" in the comics, and he calls himself "homo supreme"). For a time, he was classified as the first mutant, though I know that's been changed as they've shown mutants further back in time. As with every video of yours, I recommend the movie Imagine Me & You, as well as Zsazsa Zaturnnah.

I haven't seen this movie since I watched it in theatres but damn the attention to the small details from the special effect department like at 11:58; any other movie you could easily clock the camera crew in the reflection of his glasses but, in just those few seconds, all you see is the street.

Kind of forgotten about movie with Marvel taking over so much. This is very underrated.

The Rogue Cut has Rogue playing an integral part of the story. After Logan injures Kitty, they need someone to take over for her. Since Rogue can absorb a person's powers, they need to go rescue her.

Great moments in this movie, made even better by your reactions to them, Ashleigh. so happy you like some Sci-fi as well as Mel Brooks.

Beast's mutant ability is his agility and prehensile feet. He looks like a normal person but his feet are like another pair of hands. He tried to cure himself with a serum derived from Mystique's blood but instead furthered his mutation growing claws, fangs and blue fur thus making him more beast like. In the comic books Henry McCoys field of expertise was bio-chemistry. He worked on a serum using chemical agents which had the same effect as the movie version. Compare the cover of X-men vol.1 #1 with Amazing Adventures #11. Just like the Hulk, his first appearance was grey in color. Just like the Hulk they could not get a consistent color of grey during the printing process. When Stan Lee complained to the printing company about the inconsistent hue, they recommended he try green as that was an easier color to print. The Hulk has been known as the Jade Giant ever since. In Beast's case he turned blue. 😅 This movie introduced Warpath who was a member of X-Force. Rob Liefeld who was the creator of Deadpool...who was a parody of DC character Deathstroke The Terminator a.k.a. Slade Wilson, worked on the X-Force book which also gave us Nathan Summers a.k.a. Cable. 😮 It also introduced Bishop an energy absorbing mutant from the future and Blink who could create spatial portals. Also Roberto DaCosta a.k.a. sunspot who could channel solar energy throughout his entire body. 😮 The identity of the blue mutant building pyramids will be answered in the next X-Men film X-Men: Apocalypse. His name is En Sabah Nur. But the mutants call him by another name. 😂

To be fair, you actually said something a few reactions back that had me questioning if something had happened to Beans, though I don't recall now what it was.

The 1970's called. Beans needs a diet. The Sentials are xmen versions of Cossack, Gestopo or the KKK. No he is always the Beast Proffesor X will explain.Thats Evan Peters. You will see him again in this series and if you continue in the marvel universe but i won't say where. It is all of their future. Wait till you get to the ballpark. Padme had to die because the twins couldn't have a living honest parent. The plan is to destroy the Sentienls. I am not sure that is Wanda. Wanda is suspose to be his twin. That is Apocolypse.

I really liked Banshee in X-Men first class so broke my heart when they say he died in this one ☹️

This franchise has such a bad history of mistreating the senior X-Men leadership. Cyclops, obviously, but also Storm, and especially Banshee. He was a wise elder statesman and mentor of the group, and one of its most experienced/reliable members, but no part of that got translated to the screen, and then he was unceremoniously dumped.

I look forward to you watching the next one. My friend's daughter (T.J. McGibbon) has a small role in it. She was also in the Umbrella Academy.

I blubbed like a baby with Future Magneto's death and all his nostalgic chats with Pica- Prof. X

I still find it amazing this is all so that Deadpool makes sense.

​@@d3l3tes00nyeah, there never should've been a cut without Rogue. I think they did it to avoid confusing audiences but literally every person I know that has seen the Rogue Cut found it less confusing.

We have loved X-Men our entire lives, the cartoon, the cards, the games. These movies were a serious thing for us. They started off slow, cautious even. This film is absolutely... brilliant beyond belief. I really don't have any more words for it except "perfection." I'm no gatekeeper, you be the judge of this. Oh...and mind the glass. ❌

So, I more recently watched the Rogue Cut of Days of Future Past (as I had never seen this version before), and after I watched the movie I was watching the special features for it, and I have a fun fact as a result: The scene where Mystique is fighting the Vietnamese as the Vietnamese General and shapeshifts back to herself while fighting… that sequence took a total of 47 takes. They had to get the timing down as well as match up Jennifer Lawrence and Thai-Hoa Le's movements down perfectly. While tedious and a little complicated, they pulled this off incredibly well, I'd have to say. You'd think that it would have taken a lot more takes than that, but no. They managed to get it down in under 50 takes!

@@d3l3tes00n I have to agree. It's interesting. Bryan Singer is not a fan of alternate cuts/director's cuts/extended versions of movies, yet he did so with one of his own movies. From what I remember of the special features, to all of a sudden have a separate little rescue Rogue moment, I think the powers that be felt it to be out of place or something. It's funny, in the theatrical version, on the right side of the screen, there's a reflection of Rogue not Kitty.

The idea for this story comes from the comics. In that version, Kitty Pryde is the one who goes into the past, and Scott and Jean's daughter (who has her mom's mental powers) is the one who sends her back. This movie takes the "First Class" mutants and Wolverine and ties them back together, but also creates a new future where the next films take place. It gets confusing because new actors replace some of the people you know here, and they act like completely different characters. (It was a way of having younger actors take over from older ones, with mixed results). Fox Studios and Marvel did something kind of funny; this film was made around the time the 2nd Avengers was. In the Marvel films Quicksilver is killed and we have Wanda, Fox got to use their Quicksilver (Evan Peters) and kept Wanda as a little girl too young to fight.

The little girl can't be Wanda because her and Quicksilver are supposed to be twins and they're clearly not the same age. The mother mentions another daughter who is offscreen to the little girl, that daughter is probably Wanda and not the little girl.

❤❤❤ Ohhhh, Ms. Ashleigh. When this movie came out, it became my favorite of the franchise. This is another fine example of a leopard not changing his spots. Magneto is an excellent dark lord. Nice to hear the Eric and Raven rant. It's really hard to change how you feel about those you love. We see it every day with abuse victims. As much as they want to, they can't break the cycle. This has to apply to Padme as well. Glad to see Beans still among the vertical. Looks like she still has a long way to go. Don't give up on making her the best kitty she can be.
