Don't worry. These retro arcades are coming back with a vengeance in it's full glory. They're springing up all over the DFW area in Texas. In fact, I was able to record footage of this game directly from the cabinet itself and I recorded a video of what the cabinet looks like since the 6 player version is so rare. NOTE: you'll notice a line in the middle of the screen of this cabinet. Michael Jackson had this arcade cabinet and LOVED it. He really was a cool guy.

When this was a cabinet game in the 90s, it was a tight squeeze for everybody. If you were Cyclops or dazzler, you would have to crane your head 90 degrees to watch the screen.

I remember when I first saw this game I knew I didn't have enough quarters. None of these powers or scales made sense but it was delicious for every second I played.

After watching about three minutes of that other channel's "X-Men" cover which was clearly all six characters rigged up to one player's controls, I had to search around for a channel with _six actual players_ playing this old classic. This video topped the Recommendeds, and I was _not_ disappointed. It stokes those old memories of playing the six-player X-Men cabinet at the Tilt arcade in Northwest Plaza (in Saint Ann, Missouri) back in the 90's, and all the pick-up teams of random players just walking by, seeing a player or two already on X-Men and joining in. I was always a bit self-conscious about blocking the coin slots with my legs, so I mained Dazzler (and secondaried Cyclops whenever another player was already on Dazzler). Good times. :-) So who are these five other players that you recruited into playing X-Men with you? And why do you have so few subscribers? Are you new to KZread, or have you just been keeping a low profile?

(And as much as I cherished this game, as an old comic book collector I still had to find fault with it, and _not_ just the Engrish pain. Why was Blob armed with a mace when he doesn't really need one? Why were Nimrod and all those Sentinels working for Magneto when he's just as much a mutant as the X-Men are? Why was Juggernaut armed with a bazooka when he's probably more destructive without it? Was the White Queen/Emma Frost just being sporting by not activating her "one-up Colossus by turning my body into living diamond" superpower, or did Konami simply forget that she had it? And how does Mystique include an _entire wheelchair_ in her shapeshifting disguise as Professor X? Aren't large, detachable objects with moving parts normally beyond her metamorphic abilities? But the fact that I enjoyed this game despite all of that nitpicking is testament to this game's enjoyability, even if it _is_ an obvious quarter-eater. And yes, I'm sure we can enjoy the same comic book quibble that X-Men: CotA brought up: "Wouldn't Magneto instantly pwn Wolverine and Colossus because of all the easily magnetized metal in their bodies, as he has done in the comic books before?" We have to make the game _fun_ (and not futile and frustrating) for Wolverine players and Colossus players too. Willing suspension of disbelief and all that jazz. :-) )

My first run in with this 6 player monster was in Tallahassee, Fla. and it was also in the 90s. I remember the unit was too close to the token exchangers, and who ever was playing Dazzler had to move over sometimes if someone had a 5 dollar bill the other exchanger wouldn't take. It took two play troughs to get this video made, the first recording was a black screen with just audio for 30+ mins. So we got the same group of people again, the next weekend, to sit around a 70in TV with 6 wired controllers, and a Pi4 and try for one more time. Our friend has two kids so it was, me, our narrator, a 13-year old, a 19-year old, and him and his wife. We have been on KZread a little over a year, but we started out posting only one video a month, so KZread was probably not suggesting us to a lot of viewers.

​@@datcoopgaming2020 At risk of accidentally offending somebody, I'm guessing that the 13-year-old was the one playing Cyclops, shooting his optic blast all the time and burning down Cyclops' power uses and life gauge. For some reason, the younger kids playing X-Men at the arcade _always_ threw out their super attacks constantly, and I was always saying something like "Save your super powers for the _bosses,_ guys! And even then, don't burn your life bar down; just figure out what each boss does, then stick and move, stick and move! Blob's slow, so let him get close, then when you're just outside of his mace's range, jump-kick right through him! Rinse and repeat till he's done!" They usually didn't listen. ^_^ And it sounds like the manager of that arcade either didn't have enough space to work with (and if it's a six-player game, it behooves them to _make_ room) or they just didn't manage their space very well. The token exchangers _always_ get plenty of elbow room, because people don't like to be crowded when they have to pull their wallets out. I even worked for that Tilt arcade for about six months after I came home from the Air Force, and they had a pretty good floor layout. Once, they even got _eight_ of those Daytona 500 cockpits and hooked them all up so you could have eight players racing against each other. It was great! Too bad our video game repair guy had a habit of coming to work drunk, which he did right up until the General Manager got fed up and fired him. But working for a video game arcade was a pretty good job. I miss the arcades. :-( Anyway, sorry for babbling! Have a Subscription; here's to hoping that you get many more!

@@BloodyBay Sadly, I was "Cyclops"... its funny how when real money isn't being used you get carried away with the super attacks. "Wolverine" was played by the younger kid.

@@datcoopgaming2020 Ah, the story of my life: Open mouth, insert foot. X-D And true, the recklessness and wild abandon in our playing styles are inversely proportional to how limited our replays and continues are. Infinite lives? Go crazy! But get down to our last one or two quarters and we suddenly become Vlad Tepes against the Ottoman Empire, strategizing the blue blazes out of everything. If I had had a generous allowance back around 1985, I might _never_ have figured out how to beat Black Tiger on one quarter. Approach follows circumstances, right? ;-) So this was a home port of some sort. Was it an emulator like MAME? And a Pi4 is one of those computer boards, I take it?

This game is based on the original version of X-Men TAS that was piloted before the Fox version. The Pryde of the X-Men episode can be found on KZread.

Dazzler was the best! An underrated X icon. Her power is amazing.

I noticed the background where you fight the White Queen didn't get that graphical glitch when it starts scrolling. what were you using to play this because I would really like to be able to play the 6 player version without seeing that annoying glitch that was never fixed in all the mame versions I used over the years.

Marvel's original animation budget was for 13 episodes of the 80s Robocop cartoon, which did so poorly that they cancelled the show at episode 12 and used the remaining money for the Pryde of the X-Men episode.

@kcmebbin8437 I see. That kinda makes sense. 'Pryde of The X-Men' was by far the better show. They turned the gritty Robocop movie into a made-for-kids cartoon, which wasn't entirely a good idea. Like they did with Rambo.

what would be your 6 member x men team roster? bonus points if it doesn't have wolverine or cyclops but is still recognizably xmen rather than the midnight sons of the galaxy mine would be boring , its just wolverine; cyclops; storm; rogue; beast; and nightcrawler narrowly winning over gambit and kitty pride, yes i cheated but the runners up can be in my bonus point version

We used RetroArch with the FinalBurn Neo core and the output video driver set to "GL". If you are going to try for 6 players on a USB hub you may need to change the Controller Driver from "xinput" to "dinput" in the settings menu.

This game must have sucked. Everyone gets only two uses of their powers to begin with?? Cyclops & Dazzler mostly fighting with their fists?? Storm mostly fighting with a dagger?? WTF??? And since when is Pyro able to hold off six X-Men by himself for so long??? He's more like the Juggernaut in this game. Why does Nimrod look like a shrunken Master Mold?? Why is Juggernaut using a bazooka?? Juggernaut went down quicker than Pyro!!! Why is the Living Monolith only 8 feet tall?? He should be more like 80 feet tall!! Why is Wendigo in the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants?? He's not even a mutant!! Sabretooth should be in this game, not Wendigo!! Colossus's mutant power is listed as Energy Spark??? Wolverine's power is listed as Adamantium Laser Blade??? 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Because this is based on the original X-Men cartoon... Only the pilot episode can be found on KZread now, but it's worth checking out. Same animation team that ended up doing the Fox version, but with major changes. This team is featured and the powers seem a bit off. Magneto and his space station, being the leader of the sentinels, have energy projection etc... Apparently, when Colossus turns metal, he does damage🙄.
