X-Cover 2.0 - Why I switched to iKamper

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The iKamper X-Cover 2.0 is one of the most underrated tents on the market today. It combines both tons of space and also a slimmer profile. Somewhere in between a softshell and hardshell tent with the ability to mount skis, bikes, and kayaks with ease. This is a patented design that no one else has or will have in the future.

    I can see if I can work it in to the rotation but for the most part soft shell tents are usually a little bigger when opened. I think this one being a hybrid tent both had shell and softshell is probably my favorite tent. This thing is the easiest tent to ventilate I've ever had. The one major downside to softshell tents is they are bigger and heavier typically so they do hurt mpg a little more than hard tents. Like I said I'll try to come up with a video out of it. Thanks.

    How would you compare the performance of each of your tents in heavy wind? Colorado has been crazy windy and wind performance in roof top tents is not talked about enough in the industry. James Baroud is the only company I see that actually posts a wind rating of up to 75 MPH (which is incredible really).

  • @OXFOOT

    @OXFOOT

    Жыл бұрын

    So I’m all honesty the best tent for wind was the GFC as long as I faced it the right direction. This one is probably second. The Tepui I had was probably the worst and then after that was the skycamp 2.0. None of them were scary in the wind really but some performed better than others. I’m also aware that the worst part of the wind is the rain fly flapping making it seem worse than it really is so it’s possible the GFC being the best was because it didn’t have a rain fly.

    I’d say it’s about the same. I guess I could see if possibly being slightly worse because it’s the whole tent and not half of the tent with a hard side on one side? In my experience my ikamper 2.0 was slightly noisier but I had it in more high wind situations. I really do think it’s about 50/50 on that though.

  • @ctk3873

    Hardtops are much quieter hands down with less wind resistance because there is nothing flapping in the wind! Anyone that tells you different I would second guess their credibility in giving you an honest answer. Look at how much he fumbled and stumbled trying to set it up. With a hardtop for example the skycamp 3.0 there are two clamps you release ( with one hand if you want) and lightly push up on the hard shell as the gas struts do the rest and your tent is basically set up in seconds! It’s not even a close comparison! I have no skin in the game and don’t really care what people purchase but people should be honest when reviewing a product because others are basing their decisions on videos like this. Do your due diligence and review other comparisons before pulling the plug on a large purchase. Look at everything, size , weight, construction, wind resistance, fuel economy, are you taking it off road…soft top will catch on branches and tear, your must haves and wants, budget etc. and the list goes on. Sometimes companies will send out products to people to review and intern dictate what they can and cannot say. I’m not saying that this is the case, just be aware and do your homework.

    Hi. Have you had any issue with the sides of the cover? I’ve seen a guy that had issues on the long sides of the cover. The strap was not able to fit tight to the base of the tent so driving on highway it flaps and bugs and water got in. I don’t know if I’m getting clear with my explanation 😅

  • @OXFOOT

    @OXFOOT

    Was that person using the first one or the second one? I never had any issues but I didn’t even have it for a full year before I switch to the tundra. @@OXFOOT the second one, I mean de 2.0 like yours. In his case, the side fabric cover doesn’t get properly fitted tight with the tension rope. Pretty much causes a lot of tension and corrugation at the corners at both sides of the bucle but doesn’t fit tight along the long sides. If it flapes it’s because it allows air flow getting inside the side panels. I don’t see it a problem in any condition but in dust. Thanks!
