Wyoming Pioneer Endurance Ride 2010 -- Quite a Sugarfoot -- Gaited Endurance Horse

Спорт

Quite a Sugarfoot is a Tennessee Walking Horse that is competing in the sport of endurance riding. 98% of endurance horses are Arabs, so Sugarfoot is a rarity, but more and more gaited horses are getting into the sport.
So far, we have completed 25 & 30 mile LDs (Limited Distance) rides. Last year we finished in the top 20 for the mountain region -- WY, CO, MT, SD & UT.
Sugarfoot is a very athletic horse and we hope to move up to 50 mile rides this year. She has what it takes and can't wait to finish our 1st 50!!

Thanks so much for the nice comment! That makes me & Sugarfoot feel great that you enjoyed the video! I'm sure your foxtrotter will do great in competitive trail. I've seen several MFT at different endurance rides I have attended in the past 3 years.

I didn't teach Sugarfoot to trot & canter. She always trots as her middle gait on lunge & roundpen and almost always trots for the vet check "trot out" although sometimes she will trot out and pace or gait back. Some TWH are very lateral and will not trot a lick in their life. I've heard in some lateral going horses, it is harder for them to learn to canter, but they can catch on as they age. My advice is don't try to teach your TWH to trot. He will do fine in endurance at the run walk/rack.

How did you teach her horse to trot and canter? Mine doesn't do that. I have been training for endurace with my TWH and was just wondering how I could teach him to trot and canter.
