WWII Video "Return of the Fighting Lady"
This footage was taken by LT Maury Proctor of Air Group 88 aboard the USS Yorktown (CV-10) during WWII. Copies of the film were later given to members of VF-88 during a reunion. One of the reunion attendees, Bill Watkinson donated his copy to the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. That copy has been digitized and posted here on KZread.
The USS Yorktown is now a museum ship at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum on Charleston Harbor, S.C. The museum is also home of the USS Laffey DD-724 and USS Clamagore SS-343. WWII veteran and member of VF-88, Bill Watkinson donated his copy of the "Return of the Fighting Lady" to the museum.
Patriots Point is located at 40 Patriots Point Rd. in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. It is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. For more information visit www.patriotspoint.org

Fabulous stuff. At 68 and a lifelong die-hard WW2 fan it is a rare and appreciated gift to view this unseen vintage treasure. Thanks !!!
This narrator sounds a little like Peter Coyote, one of the best documentary narrators in the world. Thanks for this excellent companion video to "The Fighting Lady."
Thank you I always wondered why it look like paper was over the gun barrels.
This is a wonderful documentation from and about the USS Yorktown.
So proud of our fighting forces!
Great video. I've seen a lot of relatives photos, movie newsreels, the old series Victory At Sea, and many others over my 70 years. The personal videos here were just fantastic and new to me. Enjoyed it very much.
Amazing quality personal project film & story - I have never seen comparible ... btw, I honeymooned in Mt.Pleasant and went everywhere in Charleston around 1988 > walked the Yorktown .
Fantastic - the color footage is excellent.
Wow. One of the best videos from the naval war ever!
very nice how they explain everything in detail!
I was about to watch the movie, then I saw a link to this. TY ✌️❤️🙏🇺🇸
I enjoyed this video of the Yorktown. It added a lot of more personal perspectives. Went well with the Fighting Lady documentary. Heartbreaking about the pilots lost during the final hours of hostilities. I remember this carrier well from the days when my own ship was stationed in Long Beach, CA in the '60's. In fact my wife and I stood on the forward edge of her flight deck to watch the Queen Mary arrive in '67.
The music is woefully unappealing considering the actions being demonstrated. The moderation is excellent. I always figured I would be killed walking into a prop if I had ever been on a crew. I’ve never been able to pay adequate attention. Was a heavy equipment operator my entire career.
this personal video is as informative as the original fighting lady, has the best footage I've seen of the fly by during VJ day including rare prep phase and the aerial pre=surrender checks of Japanese air baes as well as the first footage of occupation troops, these are hard to come by so clear.
Thin is right! I went to the last air show of Doolittle and there were other planes there. I’m a size 4 5’5 132 lbs and I had to squeeze in the holes. How an adult man did it was beyond me. ✌️❤️🙏🦋🇺🇸
Good old game of pick up baseball
Where you all went and took those beautiful swords from them and destroyed all of them for no reason
