WWI Brothers Honored By Memorial Day

WWI brothers Henry and Thomas Feaster buried outside Gainesville, FL in Oak Ridge Cemetery have clean veteran headstones by Memorial Day. Trae Zipperer demonstrates just how easy it is to honor a military veteran hero of our past with a clean headstone and new 8 inch x 12 inch American flag. After obtaining permission from a neighboring property owner, who happened to be on the cemetery board, Trae selected these two side-by-side white marble headstones for a proper cleaning. He followed the protocol issued by the National Cemetery Administration using D/2 Biological Solution, clean water, a horse brush with soft nylon bristles, and a tooth brush. Join Trae Zipperer in his mission to clean every veteran headstone by Memorial Day. Visit ByMemorialDay.com to learn how to do it. And, Register at VeteranGraves.com to share information and stories about the hero beneath each stone.

    I'm an Italian 23 years old boy who randomly found your videos. I, Sir, respect you so much for your efforts in restoring those veterans' graves and I hope that someday this level of respect will eventually be achieved by my country. With that said, thank you for these minutes of footage. Respects from Italy!

    Hello Giuseppe! Thank you for reaching out from Italy. My initial goal was to simply clean veteran headstones in one of my local cemeteries. I expanded the goal to ALL veteran graves in the United States. I didn't anticipate the response, but people in ALL countries love their veterans too, so people all over the world in many different countries are getting out to clean veteran headstones in their local cemeteries. I'm sure there are patriotic Italians like you who are making an effort to honor Italy's veterans. Please keep me posted about your progress!

    I just recently discovered your videos, and watching them made me feel a deep respect for you, sir. I'm from Brazil, my great-grandfather served on the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB, the abbreviation in Portuguese) in Italy, in World War II. He was sent to Naples in late-1944, remained until the end of the War in Europe, in 1945. Fortunatly he survived, but saw many of his friends and commarades die beside him. He had 5 children, 4 of whom got their names as a tribute to his fallen friends, or to the FEB campaign: Magalli (an italian nurse, friend of his, who died on a bombardment), Orlando (a chatholic priest who died from crossfire, also a friend of him), Florence (a tribute to the city of Florence, where he spent some years after the war) and my grandfather Febiane (the first 3 letters of the name are the same as the abbreviation FEB - Força Expedicionária Brasileira). I would like to thank you for what you are doing for the American veterans.

    Cleaned up beautifully! I know where Micanopy Florida is. I am from Brevard County, Melbourne Florida. I was born and raised there and lived in Melbourne/Palm Bay area until I was 22 then moved to NE Alabama. I have family still there and a nephew who lives in Live Oak Florida. Loving the videos and this really touches my heart. My son served 9 yrs in USMC. He is a vet who served in Iraq war. He is currently a gov. contractor. I used to volunteer for find a grave. I have been to every cemetery within a 20 mile radius of me. I have seen many military stones near me. As soon as I am able I would love to go clean the gravestones near me. This is just awesome what you are doing and I would love to do my part and give back to the men and women who have served this country the land I love and treasure! I have family members who fought in many wars. I am grateful for all who love this country and fight for her. Thank you for your service this truly is wonderful what you are doing. God bless

    Hi Catherine. I hope you will Register at VeteranGraves.com and help us document detailed military service information for each man or woman who served in the armed forces in defense of their country. I just announced the new site, so we need volunteers to add each Cemetery containing a veteran, and then create a Grave for each veteran. As I designed the website, I included data fields for every service related detail I could think of as a military veteran and student of history. I provide specific photo requests for each Cemetery and each Grave including for example Cemetery entry, Cemetery sign, front of headstone before cleaning, front of headstone after cleaning, landscape view, etc. I think the various camera shots I have requested will allow me, and others, to experience the setting as if we are visiting the grave, compared to simply a snapshot of the front of the stone.

    Just getting started on this at my local church yesterday with a visit. Have made contact with caretaker for a 1st meet. Is that 8" x 12" Flag the same dimension they use at Flag In at Arlington? Not trying to be over detailed on this matter, however, I would love to know the height of the flag as well. I want to be able to tell the caretakers that the flag is identical to the ones at Arlington Flag In.

    I spoke with a top leader at the National Cemetery Administration and he told me the standard grave flag used at National Cemeteries is 8 inches x 12 inches on a 24" stick. Arlington is actually not managed by the National Cemetery Administration, so I haven't confirmed the grave flag dimensions specifically at Arlington. Therefore, say National Cemeteries, instead of Arlington, and you will be correct.

    @@tommyt1357 Good question. The veteran headstones issued by the Department of Veteran Affairs via the National Cemetery Administration are iconic in their shapes and easily recognized. Watch my video about the history of veteran headstones. Some privately purchased headstones will include an etching identifying the deceased there as having provided military service. But to your point, there are many veterans with no grave marker, or a privately purchased grave marker that mentions nothing about the deceased's military service. Yes, it's a lot of work, but in some cases, a lot of cases, someone would have to research a specific grave to determine whether the deceased is a veteran. I've done this on several occasions. In one case I was searching for Civil War veterans, Union and Confederate, in a large cemetery. I walked the entire section of the cemetery where burials were made of people born prior to the Civil War period. I took photos of each grave marker of a man who was born between 1811 and 1847. These birth years would equate to a men 50 years old in 1861 and 18 years old in 1865. I came home and researched each man at Findagrave.com, FOLD3.com, Ancestry.com, and Newspapers.com to determine if he served in blue or gray. Most of the Confederate Soldiers already had Southern flags displayed at their grave markers, but I found probably 15-20 veterans whose graves were marked with privately purchased headstones with no military service noted on their grave markers. We documented these graves and shared them with the local Sons of Confederate Veterans and Sons of Union Veterans camps.

    What happens if u use bleach or diluted bleach?

  • @theyfaceeast

    @theyfaceeast

    3 жыл бұрын

    Stone is actually tightly packed granules held together by molecular bonds. Bleach destroys those bonds resulting in the stone essentially melting as the sugar-sized granules detach and slough off. Feel a marble stone that has been treated with bleach and you will feel the sandy particles that stick to your skin. Over time, as each granule falls to the ground, the etchings or raised letters slowly disappear. Write your name in the sand at the beach, then watch a wave wash over your name.
