WW2 USMC LVT-(A) 2 - Building, painting, and weathering (Rubicon 1/56 scale model 28mm)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Landing Vehicle Tracked (LVT) was widely used by the US Marine Corps during the Pacific campaign of World War 2. In this video I build the ‪@RubiconModels‬ LVT in 28mm war gaming scale - a first for me. This was a fantastic build - great fun to put together and a really nice subject for a variety of interesting camouflage schemes.

I really like this. We've just watched The Pacific with these vehicles at Pelelui and Iwo Jima. Like you always thought this scale was for gaming but I'm converted

Nice build of a fun kit. Seems an ideal scale for creating a diorama with multiple vehicles/soldiers etc

Thank you. Yes, that would work well. Rubicon make (metal?) figures too I think.

I love the rubicon kits I almost always use them over other brands for wargaming they're the perfect balance of detail vs simplicity imo, the Greyhound they do is brilliant.

I enjoyed the LVT build very much although not a scale I build in. The Lloyd carrier also looks quite interesting as it has been largely overlooked by kit manufacturers.

Thanks - I'm glad you liked it. I'm always surprised that more companies don't reach out to subjects such as the Lloyd carrier (although I guess a lot depends on how many examples are available for research).

Not tried it yet myself but I hear that a light oil wash with burnt umber would really help bring out the detail in the tracks and shadows. One day I’ll muscle up the courage… lol.

It looks great, doesn't it? I known Suyata do a 1/48 full interior Panther (and maybe KT?) too - very impressive in these smaller scales.

Outstanding job on the Amtrac. Compare and contrast the LVT2 to what the U.S. Marine Corps use now. As the old saying says "you have come a long way baby".

I think one of these shows up in the village scene of Apocalypse Now, with Colonel Killgore. Complete with Shark mouth. This is nicely done, I like it. The weathing in particular is understated, which is a surprisingly rare thing on KZread.

Looks amazing Stu,I saw these kits at Bovington, but didn’t think 1/56th might be a fine scale so I passed, but it might have to be an experiment one day.

Nice tight build, nothing fancy but then neither were the vehicles. My first thought about such small scale models is that they don’t take up much shelf space. While that’s true, I’m also surprised at the amount of detail. Still, the waterline version is great for a diorama in which composition is more important than detail.

Small scale? This model is huge compared to the 1/72 = 23mm scale I prefer, and collossal compared to the 1/100 = 15mm scale preferred by many wargamers.

1/56 is definitely an upcoming scale. Plenty of detail yet small enough to use in wargaming. Rubicon have a headstart, but other companies (Italeri, Kromlech, etc.)are catching on.
