8:31 - 8:38 , 8:51 - 9:01 very nice interpretation. Crownless is actually a tutorial boss. You being the player and wanting to be the hero, and Crownless "testing" you if you have what it takes. The parts before the guitar riff happens on the first phase of this boss fight, the very first mechanic they taught you is dodging, like you don't want to confront Crownless directly. Then when the guitar riff happened, the game introduces you to the parry mechanic, signifying that you need to fight Crownless seriously, no bs. It also feels badass to parry in this game and it feels good to nail them. I love this ost so much, and Crownless as a boss too.

I recommend "Flow" composed by Haloweak, or "ANTINOMIA" composed by Anti-General for the first Wuthering Waves trailer. Though these are not in the game but it was used to promote the game a few years ago.

Hoping Vanguard pops back up in the near future; at least for boss music. I think they actually fixed the sound balancing recently so I can finally hear the music, and tbh it's good! At least for exploration. We're really just missing the bangers for boss music, hopefully we do get that Narwhal level track soon.

even pgr started slow with the boss ost. the ost basically got more epic the more intense the boss fight was. it shows with dreamless fight for example the ost will get more intense as the story progresses

Great analysis! Though I'd like to point out, in general, that not all game soundtracks are made with heavy story-driven reasoning in mind. Sometimes they are just made to compliment something that's happening right now on the screen - like the battles and their flow. We are now at that stage of the game where we still don't know what and who will be important in the future story and to what degree, so we really can't know now whether or not composers put some "story" into these tracks. Also such "battle tracks" might seem a bit lacking in terms of length so they have to resort to looping quite early (and seamlessly). But if we evaluate them just as such, then it's kinda understandable. With that being said, I also hope Vanguard will be back to composing at least boss tracks for wuwa. And you can also check Mephis and Scar bossfight OSTs (Scar's one is divided into two parts, one for each of two phases, but the second phase track only plays in the story quest).

Personally I really like WuWa's soundscape. Even though it lacks iconic vocal bangers, or insane over the top boss music, the atmospheric style really adds to the gameplay. Looking forward to more too 🤘

Brilliant observation with the key changes, arrangement, and your insight into looking on Crownless' battle theme. Also, digging to the subtle lore of their character. It loops actually. When you stay too long in combat mode. It goes for any of their OST's just like with PGR. It even also is evident from all games. Ever changing music, is impossible to achieve that lasts longer for prolonged periods of time. That the composers even back then already knew the shortcomings.... the limitation of creating music physically. That's why there are certain progressions... arrangements very creatively arranged that can loop without sacrificing the need to exert much unneeded effort to please the customers/clients.... it is playing for.... On the part of it being majority decided that its underwhelming, I do think most people think of 1.0 of Wuthering Waves as finished. We are just beginning... we are on the very start of a journey. Just as any games with a few short gameplay hours of theming and music. The size and scope of the game is planned around that. Do anyone, thinks that they won't elaborate and improve upon those themes? Even adding more layers to the original ambient subtle song? Using the points from the other comments and from a major music CC. Underwhelming, bland, ambient, subtle music is used and is discriminated. Now it got me why people back then said and turned that phrase as a proverb. Silence is golden. Why so? Lack of understanding and insight that's why. Most immediately just use their favorite tracks to overshadow the themes and music of the game. A very well blinded preconception of a bias that blinds their heated narrow perception... perceiving the world as lacking when our real world is the same as this. Realistically, of course our world is bland, there's no outside forces playing musical instruments around whenever you do something. But try to close your eyes, stay silent and steady your breathing just like the monks nor the meditators or any person that has the ability to understand their selves and around them. a self-introspection if you will. By a few minutes of being steady and tranquility, you begin to feel... hear... listen to the sounds of your own environment subtlety just minding its own thing. Without your so called bland music. You wouldn't get to know what's the opposite of that. Without the other existing. From my understanding Kuro Games' uses the unconventional need to emphasize the use of sound through *subtlety*. An ambient theming if you call it. It is an experience that a lot of people forget to do when they are surrounded by loud sounds all the time. Their sound effects, character voices louder than the music, is Kuro Games' idea of introducing the sound concept of game design. It may be not to everyone's taste, but not me and the other people I had seen and commented on other videos, that discussed and acknowledges the music with its themes of surrounding the world of Wuthering Waves. While a lot, embrace generally common popular music that already is so saturated from its loud volume, it already being so mainstream that you have to play hard catchy choruses to lazily and appeal immediately most people who listen!! ...... and that is suppose to be the pinnacle of MUSIC? A preference or bias of theirs, I say. Using their preconceived and already established tastes of music. They dump on the game because it goes contrary to what they think. Just like in the real world. We have subtle sounds playing and ringing throughout your environments echoing as they ebb and flow. With the every flowing wind softly, caressing anything it goes and passes through. The chimes of door bells, sounds of the birds, bells ringing, animals/monsters making sounds, sounds of every machinery that is active and makes such noises around it... and so forth and so on... that interacts and makes noises inside the world of Wuthering Waves. Echoism, a word rarely called a concept with the onomatopoeian definition. Such rare and hidden frequencies we hear that others don't is a concept with echo. Also a term, the game keeps using for any living being. Ever heard of the sound of silence? Why is that concept a profound topic that has been discussed by people who are the specialists on Music Theory and what nots? Unfortunately, its hard to change a flock of sheep brigading their united frustrations and blindsided perspectives on everything. It is so very evident with people, in these times, losing the need... the *understanding* to try harder and explore deeper on topics they have surface level perspective on.

m8, glazing Wuwa music is something that should never be done. As much as you emphasize ambiance etc... Wuwa music lacks the ability to achieve the lots of surplus terminologies you've used in your thesis. SFX and BGM not mixing well isn't a player skill issue lmao, and when, mind you the general theme of the game in its entirety is sound. Unlike you, we have taste. We don't glaze a billion dollar company at everything it does, much more so when it's clearly unimpressive. What they could've done to achieve was to get the SFX and BGM compliment each other into a melodic flow, not have one overpower the other. And by your words, if that's what Kuro stood out to achieve, then many people's conclusion would be that they effing suck in this part. Oh, and let's not talk about the music not fitting the theme of Wuwa as well. People yap that the world is post apocalypse sci-fi and yet all I can see is high medieval fantasy masquerading as anything other than that actually. Add on to the fact, that the mismatch of Lo-fi music while exploring a dystopian world and the soft beat of non-existent techno, unfitting to keep you engaged in fights; it's such curiosity to watch a billion dollar company fails at the main part they tried to do. Btw, if you don't know the crownless theme is from CBT 1, so make of it what you will. Oh yeah, I forgot the Dreamless BGM slander as well. It effing sucks actually. The moment it tried to appeal to the sunken ship story, it fell apart in being an objectively 'good' music. The only impact I felt during the entire sequence was the Rover sword slapping Dreamless ass, nothing more.

@@LazyCat250 so offering a different perspective and elaborating use upon ambient music within Wuthering Waves is glazing now? Could you please define that glazing word you used? How does it lack the ability? Not mixing well is what? How does that define a player skill issue? What makes an objective metric that revolves around what you are saying? We? Your group that has taste? Kindly elaborate what makes it have taste? How does that fit in the definition of your glazing? Okay, so that's a proper elaboration to counter my points besides insulting me beforehand. Using hard F words to emphasize your frustrations to justify your points, doesn't make that stronger. Neither do your insults and the use of slang words, work against well on my points I illustrated. You talked about the themes and then used the opinions with your word usage of yap... The hype stating that WuWa is post-apocalypse sci-fi and then proceeds to use high medieval fantasy, and from my understanding... Its false information that lied? What makes the lo-fi music mismatch the 'dystopian world' and soft beat of non-existent echo unfitting ? Then you used another insult to use the monetary value of a company you don't even know well about. Are you talking about Hoyoverse, your billion dollar company? As far as I know, Kuro Games never has reached a billion dollar stocks. Would you kindly explain and elaborate to me, what should be the case for a post apocalypse sci-fi and high medieval fantasy? Then proceeds to use Crownless' theme from CBT1 to support what of your argument? The dreamless slander... Ah yes, So your subjective opinions in regards to that music, is that it sucks. That doesn't give clear cadence that your experience/review is objective takes. When you don't give any further information that holds your arguments with weight besides attacking me... And then.. Instead of the points I illustrated I mentioned in spaced sentences, were they all just taken by yours, truly at face value? Using your emotionally charged counter points to weaken my claims, doesn't hold much water to refute my points.

It's hard to make any innovation in music nowadays, if anything doesn't sound conventional, people immediately write them off as "mid", how can you elevate music by doing the same thing as others? I just like how WuWa create its very own direction in music, its unlike any games I've played before and I've played many many games, it's might sound rough right now but there are many tracks that are really good and with continuous improvement in this direction, the future of WuWa's music look promising.

I think this sentiment that people in general doesn't like the music started to pour in more when Mr. Marco made a video regarding the music being disappointing. Problem is, the over-world music in WW is more ambient save for some boss themes and othe regions. So our personal biases and preference truly affects our opinion for it. The osts shares the same ambient non-distracting vibe of Disco Elysium OSTs and some ambient music from Nier. However, I think most people prefer the more melodic approach like say in Genshin with traditional instruments. Great analysis btw. The boss fight with such theme occurs right after starting the game in a surprise boss fight.

Wuthering Waves is very cool game with fantastic gameplay and sound design but it really lacks in terms of big banger hits. I’ve heard a rumour that the devs ran on a very slim budget and had to make sacrifices. I hope that the profits from a good launch will uplift the ost to the highest levels. Giving that this is a game from PGR devs the expectations for a great ost are definitely there.

As a player, my problem with the soundtrack isn't that it lacks bangers, but rather the average soundtrack is pretty meh. The overworld music doesn't commit to being ambient like botw but also doesn't have enough going on like in genshin. I like both botw and genshin soundtracks but this midground is just frustratingly boring. The generic battle theme is also pretty boring too. And considering the bulk of the playtime is spent in the overworld rather than fighting bosses, it of course leads to a poor impression. At some point i started muting the game music to play my own music over it, which I've never really done with similar games before.
