The song that Misty was singing was the song Shauna heard in her "dream" with her son, it triggered her and temporarily convinced her the "dream" was real. To Shauna, the song is "confirmation" that Lottie had truly tried to steal her baby, and they'd all eaten him. It's classic postpartum psychosis, which can make the loveliest of parents very dangerous to themselves and others. While delusional, of course she wanted to beat the shit out of them. Anyone would have wanted to. You talk about the beating being "unforgivable": well, Shauna's in the grip of a very serious mental illness, the circumstances were truly extenuating, and Lottie deadass encouraged her to beat her up. Mental illness is no excuse, but it still explains a lot, and I personally feel more empathy than "anger" towards Shauna. She's a time bomb, she's sick and she knows it: I'm more judgy towards adult Shauna, who could have access to psychiatric help but doesn't seek it (for many understandable reasons, but come on).
