Wow! I'm so jealous of your access to bottle dumps, Thames, etc. I'd be ecstatic to find any of the lovely bottles you all were passing up as being too plain. And the pieces you all kept - spectacular! 💜 Thanks for sharing this wonderful outing.
I wonder if people from the Victorian age could look down through time, they would think we are out of our minds!!!😆 love love love this!
The 'foot warmer' were called (at least in Scotland) 'Pigs' I still have one I used as a child which was handed down by a Grandparent. If you're not familiar with them they are ceramic hot water bottles and were built like a brick privy. Most of them get damaged by being pushed out of bed by cold toes when they have cooled.

Wow! What's finds! All of you were pulling out one treasure after another! I think my favorite was the foot warmers, and Monica's beautiful thin green bottle. But then, the bottle with the blue crystal stopper, the pipes. Wow, my senses went to overload! Great finds to all :)
I wonder if in 100 years from now that our dumps would be as interesting? Look honey! I found something. It says Pamper's on it. Look there's something inside!

This was an amazing bottle dig! Love the stone ware, poisons, and ink wells. The foot warmers were killer. There's still a ton of stuff just waiting to be uncovered...im so envious. Thanks for sharing
My gosh Si - That's the motherload of everything! You'd probably never leave if you had your detector with you. Everyone's finds are just stunning. Well done.
The Heinz bottle is brilliant … I'm originally from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania home to Heinz, didn't know it was made in Maine too ?! Great finds, and fun friends Well done Si
You know you are really old when things that you used daily as a child, turn up on "KZread" as relics of the past, and apparently dating from the Victorian era! Stoneware pigs, Owbridges Lung Tonic, Parishes Food, and Jeyes Fluid, all could be found in my Granny's house, and I'm not quite 80 yet!!😌
What an absolutely wonderful place to explore! I could spend many a day exploring and discovering in such a place!

always nice to see women enjoying the hobby digging in old dumps
I cannot imagine going back the the township dump we used as kids. Now its still being used as a leaf and garden recycle center. The compost is being used as a cap for the original dump. The same goes for the city dump here where I live now. Now They take it 50 miles away to an old sand quarry and dump it there. 100 years from now, all those plastics will still be there. Back when that dump was made, glass was mostly used. Now its historic.
I know it's a pain and you obviously do care but please put booties on the dog. I've seen way too many injuries to animals in places like that doing archaeology. It's not just the shards of glass and metal, but the crazy amount of bacteria and bugs and diseases that get in their nails and between their toes. She takes off like a missile don't she?! Good Poppy!

19:11 I would advise caution on these. A lot of the hands of this time period will be painted with highly radioactive radium paint. I'd check these with a small geiger counter before opening them up for cleaning as the paint flakes are very hazardous

Alpha and Gamma radiation. Don’t breath in or swallow paint dust/particles as Alpha is dangerous inside the body. Otherwise,nothing to worry about.. NB If the paint is no longer luminous, it is still radioactive ! ( For a around 1,000 years plus.) ✌️
@DidntKnowWhatToPut1

I only know this because I deliberately seek out radioactive antiques. I have a fair number of radioactive clocks and watches, but I take precautions to avoid contamination. Another way to check without a Geiger counter is to shine a UV torch on the hands. If it is from between 1915-1945 and it glows green under the UV light then it is likely radium paint. Antique shops are absolutely full of them.

Took a surprisingly long time to associate the condition with this practice amongst workers.

Wow, what a bottle digger's paradise! Judging by the array of finds and the sheer volume of earth,, that tip was in use for a long time. Definitely some Victorian items in there, up thru WW2. A few things I wanted to mention... 22:40 - AS Hinds are pretty common in the US. Funny to see one pop up so far from home. 33:53 - In the left foreground there's a low-domed inkwell. Any thoughts on the year? I've found only one like it, here in the States, from an 1880s site. Does that seem about right to you? 34:41 - The stoneware bottles with pour spouts look to be master inks. Very nice! Cheers! And happy hunting!
