My first boyfriend in homeschool was Hispanic, and when I ate at his house I had no idea how to eat a tamale.... first I bit into the husk, then I ate with a fork and knife lol, his whole family laughed at me but then he showed me how to eat it and it was soooooo good.

I’ve never had a tamale, mainly because of my not knowing how to eat it and thus embarrassing myself. Now that I know the proper way to eat tamales, I look forward to my next visit to my local Mexican restaurant.

The first time I ate a tamale, I ate the husk and all. Actually wasn't terrible, just a little tough to chew. Nobody told me! I had no clue. I ordered a combo plate, like with a burrito, enchalada, chimichanga, etc., and it came with a tamale also.

Actually, it's not a sin to eat pizza with a knife and a fork, unless you are talking about NY/American pizza. Italian pizza it is very different from the American version of pizza and you eat it with a knife and fork because it is served unsliced, and it can be very messy if you try to eat it with your hands, since it's cook at higher temperatures and everything is more "liquid"

Yes, I just wanted to say the same thing. I'll never put ketchup on my hotdogs, or tomales, but that doesn't mean that there aren't people who like that taste. There's only one thing that needs to be said, don't eat the corn husk. (I did, lol)

You mentioned that an Italian would consider it a sin to eat pizza with a fork and a knife. But this is not true - in Italy it is common for pizza to be eaten with fork and knife. In fact, many of the pizzerias in Italy do not slice the pizza for you at all but instead serve it whole and you cut it yourself while you are eating it, much like eating a T-bone steak. Even in America, some places like Chicago make pizzas that are designed to be eaten with fork and knife. It would be considered a sin to eat New York pizza with fork and knife, it is true for some places but not everywhere and definitely not Italy.

i watched a tv series, a drama on netflix, and the characters were sitting around eating tamales out of the husk, in their hands. i get that its ok to eat with a knife and fork, but i never even imagined doing this until i saw it. of COURSE its a handheld food, its precisely designed for that, just like a burrito. its cool to see authentic foodways. i promise, i will eat tamales with a knife and fork in a restaurant or at a formal sit down dinner with my mostly anglo family, but i am definitely eating one out of my hand next time i can. you have only so many years on this planet, dont miss out on new experiences.

Thank you for your Vedio. I'm in my 50's and just now bought my first Tamales. 3 for $5. I took them to my van and put this spicy green sauce on it and started chewing husk and all. I wasn't giving up. I chewed and chewed and by god it was going down. I thought I should have maybe bought just one. Then after the first bite I thought, to heck with this, I'll just eat the inside.
