"In marrying Herodias Herod, as we know, has violated Mosaic law. The synoptic tradition gives John's harsh criticism of this unlawful second marriage as a reason for execution..." Surely, F. Meltzer 's knowledge of synoptic tradition (which, for just one example, didn't even mention Herod's first marriage!) is extremely poor. How one could criticize Girard and, in general, talk about Gospels' interpretations without previous careful studying the Gospels' stories, the evangelists' usage?!
