Là-Bas (Down There) by J.K. Huysmans

If there's a better way to kick off the new year than with an 1891 gothic classic of satanic excess, I don't want to know it.

In the Movie Omen 3:The Final Conflict, Damien was using excerpts from this book as prayers to his father, Satan.

An excellent short review. This book might disappoint people looking for Gothic or occult thrills, but it's an excellent novel of the French decadent period.

its funny that it reminds you of Oscar Wilde, Huysmans more famous book 'a rebours' is more than likely the inspiration for the yellow book in a picture of Dorian Gray.

Christopher Lee is one of my favorite actors and an all around amazing human. He’s surprisingly ignorant on occultism though, given how many people think he’s an expert.

Huysmans (Say "we-smans, smans prononced like "swans" but with a -m instead or a -w, if that make sens to you..) is not a french name but a dutch one, because his father was dutch.

Actually it seems like Gilles de Rais was perhaps innocent, and accused of murders because of his influence on the people and the relation he had with the church He made huge banquets, theater plays for everyone (including the low people) and build his own chapelle, where he did la Messe (this is a crime for Catholic church) Between other political things, some says that he was more loved than the church and they didn't like it
