Writing & Producing 'Bags' with Clairo and Rostam Batmanglij | Trailer

Watch Clairo and Rostam deconstruct the inspired production behind Clairo’s indie-pop hit, ‘Bags’.
Surrounded by sunlight in Rostam’s studio in Los Angeles, the two musicians look back on their experiences working together on Clairo’s genre-bending debut album, Immunity. Their creative chemistry is present throughout the series, as they unpack the original ProTools session for the album’s alt-pop single. Together they zoom in on the distinct vocal and instrumental performances delivered by Clairo during the demo process, as well as some of the outlandish production techniques used by Rostam to elevate the song’s simple structure.
The series does not only cover the technical details - it also ventures into some of the more complex psychological aspects of record-making. As they trade stories from the recording process, the duo riff on the importance of building confidence and trust in the studio, and the value of trusting your instincts when the going gets tough.
It all comes to a close with a conversation about the finishing process. Clairo and Rostam discuss how they cherry-picked a team of mix engineers that inspire them, and how they distributed different songs to different engineers in order to create an album that is diverse, adventurous, and unique.

Rostam is a production genius. The sounds he conjured while with VW are just incredible.

The vampire weekend touch on the immunity record is top notch!
Dynamic duo!
I respect Jack Antonoff for lo-fi-ing the pop world but I really like Rostam's off-kilter approach. I think Rostam takes more risks.

Ever since I found out "her record label signing was made possible by her father's connection to Jon Cohen, co-founder of The Fader" I just can't.

her music is just not that interesting. too safe, plain, and twee for an artist who is now this “big”. but then again antonoff is regrettably the biggest producer in pop right now.

Is she ever gunna learn how to produce and mix her own stuff?
@phoenixdaronco9540
9 ай бұрын
She mostly co-produces her own work, but all of her EPs except 'Diary 001' were entirely produced by her. Although she received help on her most recent records, she still performed several instruments.
Mix with masters, please make a concerted effort to make your subscription service more accessible to everyone. Pay walling shit is super fucked and scumbaggy. I think you guys should get paid but it’s predatory af to have the only option being a yearly sub of $28/month. Fix your self. Thanks
